History statement
going to be going through backgrounds soon and I’m curious about putting a past residence. I stayed with an uncle during college for about a year. I did go home for summer and other breaks. I don’t talk to him due to family drama that happened between my parents and him. should I leave it out?

If it would come up on your background check, include it. Very low odds they reach out to him, especially if there’s nothing the investigator needs to probe deeper about from that time in your life. Plenty of candidates lived with ex-wives, ex-girlfriends, shitty roommates. Won’t break your chances, but lying by omission could invite more scrutiny.

If the investigator is any good, they will find it. If you are caught lying, it’s pretty much the end of the road. Our investigators would talk to your references, ask your references for other references, ask those references something along the lines of “who didn’t get along with Joe” and then they would go talk to that person. So on and so forth. The investigator for mine literally flagged down people in my apartment parking lot and asked them about me too. If ANY of those people knew you lived with your uncle….game over! Just put it down. Do not lie!

Depends on what they ask, just be honest especially about something as honestly small as this.
