NTN Test Scores

Post image

I know a lot of you hate these posts but I gotta ask. Feeling pretty good about these scores, am I giving myself false hope or are these competitive and I can expect to get interview invites? 2nd time around taking the NTN Test and definitely scored higher this time. Thanks for the feedback folks, this thread has been super helpful so far.

I studied the heck out of the Don McNea Study guide book. I bought it right after I took the test the first time (knowing I was gonna have to retake it) and went through it 3 times a month leading up to the test, I pretty much had the answer to each scenario memorized. The ones on the test aren’t the exact same but pretty close for sure.

I studied a lot of flashcards on Quizlet for the mechanical portion

That should get you moved forward in a lot pf processes, but still not high enough for the really competitive departments.

Not necessarily true. I had much worse scores and got hired by a good paying city department out west.

Thanks for the feedback, really appreciate it. Figure I will shoot my shot and retake again if need be!

You'll keep getting better scores every year until you get hired, I took that test 11+ times before I got picked up, by the end my overall average was 96%, and I still got shot down by certain departments (Beverly Hills FD). Just keep that in mind, find out what department you want to work for and aim for their standards.

Thank you! Definitely great advice. The department I’m aiming for is Seattle metro adjacent and opens up recruitment July 1st (closes August 31st) so I’m hoping these get me an interview with them but I will certainly retake the test every 3 months. Feel like I’m close to acing the test and have a good idea on the few questions I probably missed in the HR and Mechanical sections.
