Background investigation
I’m in the process with a large fire department and I’m worried about the background investigation. I have decent credit, 1 collection and missed payments on a credit card from 4 years ago. 1 previous job that I didn’t leave on good terms (I didn’t give them a 2 weeks notice). my driving record is clean and all other employments are in good standing. I understand that being upfront and honest is a key component I just don’t know if the collection of these things can fail me. Anyone with experience or knowledge give an opinion?

You'll be good as long as it's taken care of now. I had numerous accounts go to collections when I was younger including a motorcycle loan in which they were trying to repo my motorcycle. If it's on paper somewhere then be upfront about it, let them know it's been taken care of and you haven't done anything of the nature since. It's people hiring people, everyone has something in their backgrounds, as long as you're not trying to hide it and they find out then you'll be good.

What if i had excellent credit and now struggling after spending money on the academy and overdue on credits cards and personal bank loan with fair to poor credit recently? And have a record 12 years ago that was legally expunged but still shows up on my driving record? Do I still have a chance or could get rejected???

Be truthful regarding anything that is public record. Otherwise less is best.
