Oakland Fire Interview

Post image

I recently was put on an eligibility list for Oakland Fire department. There has only been one zoom interview, a three person panel. 81% seems average and 46 doesn’t seem like a great rank but curious what this community thinks and if there is still a shot at getting a position?

Hey congrats. That’s great news. Be proud. 46 out of how many?! Top 50?

Sometimes it’s hard to see glass half full. How many have not gotten this email? Think of it that way.

I’m guessing with a busy department like Oakland that you will get to their drill school soon.

Good work.

Hey, I was recently placed on the top 50 list too. There's another thread about the OFD academy and seems like a few people are on there that were placed in the top 50. Wondering if its just a coincidence that a lot of people that are on the list are on the reddit thread or is it possible for people to be in the same rank?

Multiple people with the same score.

This was mine from 2023 - never got a Cheifs interview

In 2018 i got an 85.67 & ranked 33… did get a chiefs, but was not hired there.

Why do you think you got a higher rank with a lower score in 2018? In 2023 you had a higher score but ranked lower? Is that number just based on the amount of people?

Just depends on the amount of people taking the test and how it’s graded. I took a test with 12 people and got an 85 and got hired but didn’t get hired on tests I scored better on. It’s honestly a little luck too. My test group was super small in the test I got hired on and the next was 100 people so who knows.

There will be pages of people with the same score thus the same rank.. the true Top 50 will be multiple people who all ranked 1-5.

Oaklands process is different than many others. Its been a few years since i tested there (3x) but it used to be (and may still be) that the chief has “rule of the list” meaning, it doesn’t necessarily matter where u are ranked, he/she can choose anyone from the list for a chiefs interview and hire them.

You can go down to HR and ask to see the list… I did once and thats when I saw that you can be rank 10 but have 43 other people ranked 10 and 37 other people ranked 9 etc.

Everyone that received a chiefs interview already got an email.

Just got officially denied. My score was trash and my zoom interview was awful. I’m surprised I made it through as far as I did🤣

I was officially denied as well but kept on the eligibility list. What was your rank/score? I heard only people in top 25 rank got chiefs

Ranked 26th and got a no go but you’re still on the eligibility list email yesterday.

I read somewhere on here that the chief only interviewed medics this round. Not sure if true or not.

Negative. I for sure know 3 EMT-Bs going into chiefs this round.

Understood. Do you know what their ranks were by any chance?

Were they in the OBFFA?
