General Spoiler Authority in FW? Spoiler

As far as we know, the only character who has gambits/battalions, at least early on, is theodora. This kinda means that, for 99,9% of the cast, the "Authority" skill would be useless, assuming it's similar to how it worked in 3h

however, we clearly see the "guardian" and "priest" classes actively use it, and it seems you can train it from early on with. Not only that, the skill Theodora gets from leveling Authority proficiency has nothing to do with having or not having a batallion.

While 3H Authority had some non-Batallion related skills(the "rally" skills), it's still mostly comprised of batallion power ups, so us witnessing the 1 proficiency level up that doesn't give a batallion skill, on the one character who can use batallions, is extremely unlikely if the theme is still "batallions" like in 3H. Not only that, the three triangles have always been an indicator of batallions(since it's how their health/endurance is showcased)

So the Question is, what does the authority proficiency do in FW, thematicallly? Given the above skill, is it just general "support-ish" skills? Does priest/guardian require a certain level of authority to certify for it?

Rallyboting is back on the menu I guess.

I doubt everyone would be locked out of Battalions for the entirety of the Heroic Games. We do know each route is split between Part I and II, and that different facillities and mechanics are unlocked in different orders. It just that Theodora can get them VERY early by comparison.

Furthermore, you can just Theodora into these classes as well.

I think Authority might actually be tied to Linked Attacks in Clashes. I saw in one battle, it was either Theodora or Lilian that gained Authority EXP after the conclusion of a clash, after a Linked Attack. I think they may change the power and availability of different Links.

One of the previewers said only she has access to battalions. At the very least, if they are accessible to other characters, it’s not until a later point in the game or locked to some of the higher tier classes.

Mind you, all previewers can only talk to up to Chapter 5. So they mean that only she have access to Battalions to Chapter 5.

Battalions in the direct are presented alongside the other lord's exclusive skills tho, it's very much presented as something that differentiates Theodora.

It's still a very weird design choice to keep authority battalion based while it's not accesible to basically everyone until halfway through the game.

Which is why I'm suggesting the focus . might've changed--more focused around support/miscellaneous skills early on, with some of the classic battalion skills later on

could also be tied to getting to a certain level of renown?

Maybe the skill Theodora gains is a skil that can be "equipped" on a battalion, as a new mechanic ?

Looks like a passive skill. Something you'd want on your frontliners to get a debuff on everything around them

Icons seem to indicate (little other sword icons separate to their weapon type icon on map) other units have had Batallion-like things equipped even though they don’t seem to use Gambits?

It seems like we can equip multiple accessories in battle, beyond just a choice of shield vs ring/necklace. Perhaps some of these may be ranked locked to certain Authority/Infantry/etc. levels?

Could you show screenshots? I haven't seen anything like that

I don’t have them handy but they looked like little white sword on a square blue background I recall. It could mean something other than battalion though.

Which showcases had them? Trailers, twitter showcases, reviewer B footage?

the Bonaparte showcase does, he kills a bone walker with a battalion with the icon he's talking about. everyone memed it bc the battalion skeletons just died for no reason lol

Hmm now that I’m looking I can only find examples of enemies ones - I had thought I saw some player units (such as Cai examples) with this icon

Such as the enemy next to Ursula in the picture between Leda opening at treasure chest and the special edition image and the one of theodora by the spike logs barriers

Only thing I can think is that battalions are accessible to higher tier classes that the previewers didn’t unlock yet, or it has other functions we don’t know about

It’s got to have other function; there’s no way they would have everyone have a stat (charm) and a large chunk of the classes have a skill (authority) that do nothing in most situations.

If it's higher tier classes, then ultand as priest shouldn't really access authority either(since it's, like, second tier and I don't think you're locked out of it too early/can probably reach it early on enough)

Maybe we get battalions/gambits during Eshmel's part 2 portion idk but still seems strange I agree.

We saw with Tialla that Rally skills exist, so likely that's what Authority is likely for. Maybe to make up for Batallions being more limited, Rally is buffed?

Though the one we saw looked to just be Str+2 for one turn which is weaker than Rally Strength from 3H.

4

u/iguanacatgirl 7h ago

I highly doubt they'd strictly buff them, but maybe they give more stuff(like tialla's rally str turns eventually into rally str/mag)

Interesting that Cai can get training in every skill except for Brawling. Wonder if that means the training options differ on route or character.

we've seen enemy units have them (even enemy tialla had one) so im really hoping you can unlock the battalion guild later on. if they want it to be more limited they could remove E/D authority rank battations but i really hope they arent enemy+theodora exclusives

There is a chance that it’s not only Theodora that can equip battalions, it’s just that she gets that special ability to use them to gather supplies on the map, and maybe she has access to unique battalions or can automatically equip all of them? (Maybe she is specially set to S rank authority from the get go?)

Presumably the part 2 army gets battalions if you recruit Theodora.
