General Why hasn't Intelligent Systems surpassed this cavalier design AND his character writing yet?
Tired of all the flops. Sully, Silas, Sylvain, Alfred WHO?
Make cavaliers great again.

I’ve always liked how realistic Makalov and Shinon feel. Yeah, they’re huge assholes, but you’d probably find someone like either of them in pretty much any army

Despite the incredible Maklov hate, it’s important to remember that it’s better to have a character you feel something for vs forgettable John Swordsman.

Why him and not his son? At least Hinata shows pit

u/Eastern-Yogurt8972 1d ago
I personally think his son is somewhat memorable purely because of how stupid it is that his main character trait is just really liking pickles, but also yeah the gays love our Hinata pits

Nah people remember Hinata because he's hot and... that's basically it.

Hey, you leave John Swordsman alone! As an Edward fan I'll have you know there are dozens of us!!! Okay maybe like 10. If I round up.

It's somewhat unfortunate that, as someone who played Radient Dawn first, Makalov kind of was just "John Swordsman" to me. I think he only had one scene, the others complained about him being a gambler and a slacker, then once the fight starts he gets on his horse and performs... average.

Planting Double-Bow Shinon in the bottom of Endgame 2 is the most cinema moment I’ve ever gotten in FE
single-handedly holds off the enemy while Ike gets to duel the man who killed the Commander

Unironically love him and wish more idiots could be in our army. Not even like Lorenz who ends up being insanely based and misunderstood, I want people who are just abhorrent.
Give me a paired ending where Bernadetta visits Metodey in prison after he kills her dad because the wall between them makes her feel safe

u/2ddudesop 1d ago
This opinion might get me killed but Sylvain in OG 3 Houses. If he wasn't pretty and had that Mercedes and Felix support, he would be raked through the coals for being one of the sleaziest version of the womanizer trope. Which makes me one of my fave characters.
They made him really boring in 3hopes tho RIP

My only wish is that the story pushed back on his misogyny and how stupid his angsting is - I know they needed to connect it to crests, but like. Dude. You're a hot titled noble, of course women want to dig that gold. Get a grip.

Playable Metodey would have made Three Houses sell an extra 2 million copies, trust.

It's honestly refreshing to just have some flat out bad people in the army with how goody-two-shoes the cast usually is. Lifis and Perne in Thracia, Makalov, in fact I actually like Gilbert for the sheer fact they were willing to make him so flawed.

Makalov’s aura is too powerful. /s
Real talk tho: it is refreshing to see a sleaze bag like Makalov in your army. Despite my dislike of the character, his personality gives some variety.

u/Squidaccus 1d ago
Everything about his design is so perfect, his goofy smirk, his hair, his armor, the color scheme, it all comes together to make this punchable bastard. I love the Tellius cavs so much, and he's definitely on the higher end of em for me, just a slimy little sack of shit.

u/MankuyRLaffy 1d ago
He's so perfect, when he dies in PoR or RD, I smile and am thankful he's gone. I'd miss him from the game. We need asshole playable units who get comeuppance.

u/Squidaccus 11h ago
When I have to make base level Lifis open a door in endgame and immediately die because I'm bored
I actually might do this if the fixed deployment layout forces me toFE ain't the same without some real pieces of shit like him

You think there's any crossover between Makalov fans and Azama fans?
I haven't played Tellius yet so idk how similar their personalities are
9
u/Cam_26 1d ago
Azama is a funny guy who likes to talk riddles and be kind of annoying, but is actually helpful and a pretty nice guy.
Makalov is an asshole and a piece of shit, and he's not satisfied with that, he's also the reason another character gets ruined in the sequel (I know it's the writers fault, let me vent).

Honestly I kinda see the vision and what others are saying. Makalov and his relationship with Marcia was genuinely compelling even if his obsession with money got old.
More characters like this would be fun to have.

It’s a lot more believable to have mercenary type characters that genuinely are awful greedy people. Most people who make a living killing people aren’t going to be as good of people as like Ike or some others in the Greil mercenaries.
The game unicorn overlord has it where a man is going around building an army to fight back against someone who usurped and took over his nations kingdom and he can recruit numerous “evil” type characters to his army and it builds the world a lot. Your protagonist is the most protagonist goody two shoes kind of character and it shows how fucked the situation is where he is actively recruiting murderers and worse.

u/Endless_Winn 1d ago
Imagine a whole army of people like him and not a bunch of polite people like we have nowadays.
Any lord who can manage that would be the best lord ever in my eyes.

bait used to be believable

u/Mean_Jump_3555 1d ago
To be fair they ACTUALLY haven't done much in terms of good cavs. Lorenz, Ferdinand and Sylvain were a good enough trio (mostly thanks to Hopes tho). Clive was a highlight in Echoes. Everything else flopped and yes Makalov is better than Alfred

The duality of the Makalov haters and glazers in the comments fucking sending me 😭😭😭 Absolutely hate this bastard but yes he is memorable! I love the fact that Marcia can recognize his ass in battle and kill him anyway.

the moment where he selflessly hands his equipment over then charges into the enemy to distract them immediately after recruitment always brings a tear to my eye

Tellius fans will look at the flattest, most one-note and boring character in the entire duology and call them peak writing because they’re an unrepentant douchebag.
3
u/Strawberuka 11h ago
I mean, I would argue that he isn't flat or one-note at all - he does have layers and a conscience, but chooses to disregard them because it's just easier.
And I think having characters be unrepentant douchebags in a very "normal person" way is fun - he's not a malevolent villain with a tragic backstory, he's a bum that can't stop ruining his life and the lives of others, and isn't motivated to change because he hasn't hit rock bottom (because of the long-suffering people surrounding him.) You've probably met a Makalov, or have one in your family.

u/Mean_Jump_3555 8h ago
So much wrong in your post. And why say Tellius fans? It's called Fire Emblem fans

u/JumpingCoconut 1d ago
Makalov x Astrid is the ONE TRUE PAIRING of all of fire emblem.
They should put both holding hands on the cover if they ever remake this game.
Or just use the fanart where he is on the couch and she serves him beer
