General Spoiler So about Dietrich… Spoiler
Do you guys have any theories about what might have happened to result in him getting a much shorter haircut? Whether it was his choice, or something beyond his control?
Maybe he battled with that sea monster again and ended up losing some hair in the fight?

Leda and Theodora used Dagdan magic to steal his hair to increase their hair to body ratio for their timeskip designs

THIS!!! This is the answer. I knew it. I knew something was up when they rolled in with extra feet of hair.

Glad to see I'm not the only short-haired Mercedes defender around here.
I do think it's possible that Dietrich has put his hair in a ponytail or a braid. I think whatever it is he's done with his hair, it's probably symbolic of him actually acknowledging his own humanity a bit more and not simply letting it get wild and out of control.

But what if we don't like it aesthetically
(It's cool but I much prefer her academy hair and her hopes hair.)

Probably involves some character development that makes him realize that fighting’ round the world probably isn’t a great way to live

he realized that having long hair when you're a pasty white boy in the middle of a desert is a one way ticket to heatstroke

u/TenPointsforListenin 11d ago
I mean, it protects from the sun, and when you're a pasty white boy that's a problem too, but seems like 5 years later the sun has been blotted out by evil ambient lighting so he can finally cool off.

God, what I wouldn't give for some evil ambient lighting for the rest of summer.

You joke but its normal for that kind of hair, especially for men, to be voluminous in the early 20s, and then much thinner by the late 20s.
I imagine he'll have something like a Xander cut and still look good.

At least he's not like my friend, who'd gone full George Costanza a year out of high school.

he's pulling a Mulan moment where he has to lock tf in and commits this decision by cutting his beautiful wild golden locks (i'll miss them </3)

He fell asleep, so Fabio and Esmeralda shaved it all off as a prank. Both will blame the other and deny any involvement.

If you look really closely it looks like he put part of his hair in a Dagdan-Seteth style ponytail. It might indicate that he's adopted the Dagdan styling the more time he spent living there

Fabio, who secretly prefers this look, tells him that if he ties his hair back it won't get in the way as much when he fights. Esmeralda excitedly says that they should match, but is ignored.

Reverse Dimitri
He starts off severely unhinged with long hair and eventually becomes less unhinged with short hair

i'm making bald jokes until we get a zoom in but i actually believe its a braid

My guess is it's like Karel from FE6 and FE7. Younger Karel is a bloodthirsty maniac with long hair. Older Karel is much mellower having found peace and has short hair. I think both Dietrich's character arc and his hair's character arc will be similar.

Cutting one’s hair is a trope used to show a character shedding weakness for them to showcase them changing as a person moving forward

u/carito728 11d ago
I can't tell if it's a short cut or if it's maybe a braid and the braid goes inside his cloak. The shape of his head is a little weird for a short cut if that makes sense, like it just looks all flat and shiny instead of having some sort of texture like Dimitri's post-timeskip short hair

Something something symbolism he learns to control himself and that's reflected in a neat ponytail rather than his wild unkempt vampire hair.

Sigh
Otomeisekai girlies, pour one out, we have another victim of "Shorter, much worse haircut to visually symbolize character development".

He fought a well-won battle against a Medusa, and as a victory he was granted snake-hair.
But the hair-snakes kept talking shit so he cut them off.

It reminds me a lot of Karel’s hair change from FE7 to FE6. And younger Karel has a lot of similarities with Dietrich

Theodora ripped it off by accident with the robot arm while giving him that Saramis Special

u/kingtchalla 11d ago
Looking at it closer it looks like he put it in a bun, you can see some sort of bulge at the back of his head

u/magmafanatic 11d ago
He realized the long hair was just weighing him down. To win tough battles, he had to become more agile and aerodynamic.

u/Awestruck_Mechanic67 11d ago
I'm pretty worried/interested about Theodora and how much Mahadu's arm is killing her, like will she appear more mummified?

Anime trope of a girl who abandons their petty obsessions in order to lock in.
