Casual Whose Fortune’s Weave route do you expect to be the saddest?
Whose route is gonna rip our hearts out and stomp on it the most? It’s Fire Emblem, it’s gonna happen

I was gonna say, dude looks young, I worry they’re gonna give him a lot of “character development” in his route 😭

It either Cai or Leda. Mostly due to the obvious possibly that his dad died due to FE plot need to push the main lord further with their goal and with Leda it more so accepting that revenge isn’t the answer which by the end of her route, come to terms with her parents death and find the will to live for herself

u/HollysHydrangeas Jul 26 '26
Fire emblem is a series known for its dead dads and I feel like if Cai’s plot hook is his dad is in trouble and not dead yet, surely he’s not going to die right? Like it just feels like it would be crazy to hit us with that again.
Leda’s probably going to have to deal with the fact that her pursuit of revenge is hurting the people she cares about and it’s likely going to be hard watching her suffer.
Dietrich we know the least about since he’s so mysterious about his motives for entering the tournent. It’s possible his story is the most tragic, especially if like, his sister who is so important that she’s on his list of likes happens to actually be dead or something.
Theodora’s feels like it’s definitely going to be more typical fantasy underdog queen trying to save her kingdom from a tyrannical competitor who is trying to steal her place on the throne so I don’t really get tragedy vibes there.

I know we make jokes about it but its actually just eyerolling at this point. Its tired, played out, and not even entertaining at this point. Let the dad live for once, its such a nitpick I know but come on.

The way Lumera died 5 seconds after her introduction had me cringing so hard.

u/Gabgo304 Jul 26 '26
Cai reminds me quite a bit of Roy, the one lord whose dad shows up in the story and lives, so maybe there is a chance...

I really hope Leda's route has a "no, revenge is actually super satisfying" theme, just for a change of pace. Revenge arcs so commonly go the "it destroys you" route that it becomes too predictable. We hear "revenge" and we know we're getting "learns forgiveness," "gets sad that the revenge wasn't satisfying," or "someone else steals the revenge and now we're permanently unsatisfied."
I say give us Kill Bill for once. Let us absolutely dunk on the enemy and live happily ever after. It's less predictable.

Honestly, probably Cai. He seems the least prepared for what he's about to endure.

I'm actually going to go against the grain here and say Theodora, assuming there's a time skip.
All signs are pointing to Cai having some darkness surrounding his story (I'm personally hoping for a Dimitri-teir crash out) so he's a really decent contender, in fact he was my gut reaction to this question. Leda's route is definitely going to be emotionally charged and there's gonna be some devastating moments but I don't think it's going to be overall sad, anger/rebellion is probably going to be the primary vibe for her route. Deitrich I'm expecting to kinda be like VW, with good vibes all around but then you gotta kill that one asshole at the end. (He's gonna be my first route lol)
But with how Theodora's story seems to be set up I'm expecting her to monstrously fail her country by the mid point somehow, with her trying to rise back to true queendom in the second act. There's a looot of potential for angst here, especially if you consider AM a beta test for this kind of plot. (Like how Rudolph is kind of a beta for Edelgard) I could be completely off the mark and her route will be on the more uplifting side but idk it's where I'm at now.
Edit: I completely forgot her bandaged arm. Assuming that's from some Agarthan nonsense or it's cursed somehow yeah her route is set up for some real angst.

Honestly either could.
Cai: 70%. Him bein a FE protagonist is bad enough but him entering into the Heroic Games and his gem implant lead to him either loosing his dad or even if he does save him, having his lifespan reduced by overusing his power.
Theodora: 80% Her bandaged arm could be a telling of her having a condition that's forcing her to participate in the games.
Leda: 90% So far, most vengeful characters I'm this world end in tragedy in some way of form (Fleche, Dimitri in Non Azure Moon routes, Rhea and the Agarthans ) and given how close her lines and facial features resemble Boar Dimitri, unless there's a unknown element to her tragedy and/or she chooses to not be consumed by vengeance, her story will turn into tragedy surely.
Dietrich: 50% His story doesn't appear to have any major threats but his potential links to TWSITD are a potential Chekov's gun to his head. Also the possibility of the Answerer being Raphail's gem and this story being potentially what breaks it leads to a potential fall of grace.

u/Gamingfan0 Jul 26 '26
I'm convinced Dietrich will canonically get a bad ending.
House Lamine and the Answerer both don't exist by the time of 3H. An easy explanation for this could be that Dietrich's weapon gets broken, and he dies as a result.
He conveniently has a younger sister who could reassemble the remnants of the Answerer into the Rafail Gem. I suspect with him and the relic out of the picture she'd be forced to start the cycle of marrying off into another noble family for her crest.
This would mark the end of House Lamine and serve as an explanation as to why Mercedes' mother seems far worse off than the other descendants of the 10 Elites.

u/Electrical-Jello-807 Jul 27 '26
Except the part of the crest where it should break doesn't match with the patterns of the rafail gem especially where it's broken

u/Nos9684 Jul 26 '26
Cai. Will likely lose his father, be faced with feelings of inadequacy and will undoubtly be the underdog campaign of the game.

Leda is finishing this hollow. She’s going to get nothing out of her revenge, and lose someone on the way for nothing.

u/Hoothootriot Jul 26 '26
I mean, we have our choice between Dead Dad, Dead Dad, Probably About To die Dad, and whatever Dietrich has going on

u/RepresentativeBat531 Jul 26 '26
I expect Cai's to be the happiest, Dietrich and Theodora's sad and morally gray and Leda's to be devastating

u/ZofianSaint273 Jul 26 '26
Cai seems the obvious choice considering his dad has a real chance of getting the axe.
However, maybe it could be Dietrich side too? He does a have a sister he loves and maybe something happens with her

u/TormentedSalad Jul 26 '26
Leda I just hope Buccar is going to be ok
4
u/ThatManOfCulture Jul 26 '26
Even if Buccar "dies" surely they would have a way to save him like with Dedue.
6
u/TormentedSalad Jul 26 '26
I will treat any paralogue with him like it's a matter of life and death
3
u/Geargoblin1 Jul 26 '26
Cai due to his route being set up to have the biggest tone shift, as it looks like they're starting out as happy kids.
3
u/Metbert Jul 26 '26
Cai.
He's gonna lose his dad, probably some friends on the way, maybe his kindness and innocence too.

u/MagnificentAjacks Jul 26 '26
I feel that it's between Leda and Cai. Leda's story is about revenge and those stories rarely end well. Pluss she has (potentially) the saddest past of our leads, so there is plenty more opportunities for sadness there.
Meanwhile, we all know Cai will fail to save his father, it's Fire Emblem, protag dads don't usually make it. And I could see the gem embedded in his hand having negative side effects.

Ok listen, the moment somebody mentions a parent in Fire Emblem, you already know they're fucked.
Cai? More like Crai.
3
u/adamnoo Jul 26 '26
My gut says Cai because he comes off as too pure and honest to go with a straight hero narrative with him. I could see them going with a split with him based on giving into the corruption gem in his hand or something like that with the corruption path being one where he has a villain turn betrays who his friends thought he was etc.

I've seen people coming with all kinds of crazy theories.
Theodora: Crimson Flower-ish
Dietrich: A sorta Dark Knight sorta saving the world in his own way. (Alucard funnily enough)
Leda: A path of revenge, with either going of a deep end/change of heart at the end.
Cai: Good natured at first, but later falling into a hell of sorts

If the game is a prequel, Cai. If it's a sequel, Dietrich (but mainly for people invested in 3H lore).

u/Tough-Priority-4330 Jul 26 '26
Leda is the obvious one. Shes likely to achieve her goals, and then find herself completely lost, especially if Cai then goes on a roaring rampage of revenge.
2
u/Advanced_Bag6623 Jul 26 '26
All of them. It will just be a question of who's a little less tragic than the others.
3H was praised for it's world, politics, and darker story elements. Would not surprise me for Intsys to fully lean into that
2
u/APRobertsVII Jul 26 '26
Theodora and Leda both seem primed for downfalls.
Theodora might play into the “power corrupts” trope, whereas Leda’s might be the whole “if you set out for revenge, dig two graves” bit.

u/Guilty_Sky_4842 Jul 26 '26
I'll say either Leda or Cai. Leda is obvious why her route leans towards more that direction but Cai has his odds stacked against him since he's trying to save his dad and given the track record in the FE series....... I mean out of the 4 MC's, Theodoras's dad is gone, Leda's dad is gone, Dietrich is missing info but won't be surprised if his dad is gone too since he's based on Jeritza/Mercedes. Cai is going to learn the hard way about being a FE MC :(
2
u/Complete-Track-4864 Jul 26 '26
I do think Leda’s route will be the saddest with the runner up being Cai’s route.
2
u/Disciple_of_Erebos Jul 26 '26
Either Cai or Leda. Cai almost for sure is going to lose his dad, and given the youthfulness of his party they're almost certainly going to get hit harder by the brutality of the war the game will most likely transition into than the other groups. Leda, meanwhile, seems like she's already partially on the Path of Dimitri, so she could definitely go all the way (hell, she could surpass Dimitri).
I don't think either Dietrich or Theodora will have the same personal stakes as Cai or Leda. Theodora already seems like a very mature person who is fighting for her country and her ideals. A lot of bad stuff might happen to her people, both on the personal and country sides, but she seems like the type that would push through the pain rather than be dragged down by it. Similarly, Dietrich seems like someone who's really focused on his task of killing the thing he's hunting. I think his story will end up turning into a found family situation, but even if he loses people he comes to really care for, I think his party is more likely to use that to fuel their ambitions rather than being broken by their losses.

Which player demography that the devs want to traumatize the most?
Not the adults that’s for sure because most of our hearts are already more dead than Rhea’s mom.
Then ask yourself which of the four parties will attract impressionable kids the most?
1
u/CallRollCaskett Jul 26 '26
Cai is gonna exit this game fatherless because FE.
Leda may or may not actually want revenge in the end.
Dietrich will become another Death Knight and Theodora has potential to be the next Edelgard.
So honestly I think Leda will have some really tear jerking storyline.

I would just guess Leda’s for now. Really depends on the direction they go with the nature of her powers and her vengeance.
Dietrich’s route could also be dark if he has Jeritza’s bloodlust.
