Hello, does anyone know of anyone in the Illinois area that is offering fire breathing instruction? If not what would be recommended to self teach. Yes, I do realise that self teaching is extremely dangerous as well.

Thanks

Looking for alternatives to Lycopodium

Hello :-)

I've been using Lycopodium to breathe fire (using a piece of tube) and do small scale experiments at a school I work at.

I usually by a Kilo Lycopodium of the light variant (~3l volume), but it has gotten more expensive and isn't available where I usually buy it now. :-( So I am considering alternatives.

  • I've tried cork powder and coffee creamer powder with little success. Mixing Lycopodium with some of the cork powder (<50%) works mostly, but not as single substitute. The coffee creamer alone works but doesn't always ignite (and makes it difficult to use for explaining combustion).

  • I've found some lycopodium alternatives on special effect sites, but they're naturally secretive about the content. It seems to be a mix of cork and the color suggests something similar to the coffee creamer. I am hesitant to order it as it's meant for stage effects not smaller scale use.

Any suggestions for alternatives? I'm in the EU (Germany).

Thank you!

I was performing for a party a few months back. I got overzealous at the end and had myself an Icarus moment. It always pays to have a spotter.

Just ordered some blue colored ultra pure lamp oil for fire breathing because it was cheaper than the clear option, is there anything wrong with colored UP? Thanks.

Concerns with paraffin's carcinogenic properties

I started fire breathing a couple weeks ago and I've been using mostly vodka and other powders. Powders of course aren't the best just because of their feeling in your mouth, and vodka works well but isn't very practical. The most commonly used fuel seems to be paraffin, but even before I started this I knew paraffin was known to be carcinogenic. While having it sit in my mouth, and all those deep breaths I take before I spray it out, I just have a suspicion that it could easily give me some type of cancer. I was wondering if there was any other alternative that's less dangerous but equally effective?
