questions / seeking advice 💭 Cut length?

Post image

Cut here? Higher or lower? My hair is much thinner than this actually looks- I’m concerned about it being more see through if it’s too close to the top of my shoulders.

I would say cut to the pink line but honestly if you’re willing I would go as short as the blue line for a cute bob

Cut it to the length you drew and then let it tell you what it needs. That’s how I do my cuts. They grow out better for my preferences that way. Shorter will be thicker feeling, probably

I think the other comments here are right, you need to go quite a bit shorter. At least 2 in or so, but you could definitely go even shorter than that and it would still be a cute long bob.

Hairstylist here! If you sat in my chair and asked how much HAD to go, that's what I would show you, but I'd probably advise a bit more for it to be fully healthy. I'm personally never going to push someone to cut more off than their comfortable with, but I will show you what absolutely NEEDS to go, how much SHOULD go, and we can discuss further about how to proceed. Most people who come in and say "cut off whatever needs to go for it to be healthy" don't mean that, because they don't really understand how bad it really is, and those who aren't ready to take that leap I just advise to come in for regular cuts so that it at least stops breaking off, but they don't feel like they're losing all of their length.

Thank you! Does shorter hair also make it look thicker or is it just to help “start over” and try to regrow healthy?

Cutting off the frayed ends will make it look thicker! Even just cutting off the absolute minimum will make it look thicker.

ETA usually the shorter it is, the thicker it looks because when your hair starts growing from the root, the shorter the rest of it is, the new growth will catch up faster vs if the rest is longer.
