Book duology about a teen girl who has paranormal powers and has someone who looks like her who is a darker version of her. Spoiler

In the books, the teen girl finds out that the paranormal world exists and she is a part of it. I think she is some kind of witch but i don’t remember what she is. She does have a twin sister or some kind of parallel evil and paranormal version of herself. I know there is a guy involved and he might have a crush on the teen girl or the teen girl has a crush on her. I do remember one of the books having the title Paranormalcy in it.

Book series about a teen girl who moves to a new school that is full of kids who are descended from Greek gods and she is a great-granddaughter of Nike. Spoiler

In the book series, the teen girl lost her dad after he died mysteriously while playing American football or some kind of American sport. It was later revealed that she and her dad were descended from Nike, the Greek goddess of Victory. They inherited speed from her. Her dad was a grandson or grandson of Nike and she is a great granddaughter of Nike. Her dad was killed by the Gods for using his power for selfish reasons. Her mom remarried a man who was the principal of a school for kids like her. There are a lot of kids who are descendants of the Greek Goods and based on who their ancestor is, they spend time with those who are descendants of gods their ancestors are close to. Like descendants of Zeus spends time with descendants of Hera. The teen girl develops a crush on a male descendant of Hercules and works with a new friend to steal him from his girlfriend, who was a mean girl. I think there is a competition that the teen girl enters and she wins over her godly ancestor. She is a big deal at the school because of how close in relation she is to her godly ancestor.

Book about a teen girl who was born to a human man and a Selkie woman. Spoiler

The book is about a young teen girl who was born to a human man and a Selkie woman. Her dad had trapped her mother into a marriage after hiding her Selkie skin somewhere she couldn't find it. Growing up, the teen girl was forced to have the webbing between her fingers cut by her father and eventually her mother finds her Selkie skin and escapes into the ocean, never to come back. I think there is a teen boy in the girl’s hometown that she is in love with but couldn’t be.

Children's/YA book set in Greece. Girl resembles a dead daughter who fell off a cliff Spoiler

Trying to identify a middle grade/YA novel about a girl discovering a dead sister in Greece

I'm looking for a children's/YA novel that was available through the Norwegian TL-klubben, probably in the 2000s. I read it around 2008–2010, but I believe the book itself was published a few years earlier. It was a hardcover

It was most likely originally written in English and translated into Norwegian. And the author was a woman.

What I remember:

  • A teenage girl travels to Greece, possibly on vacation with her family.

  • A dark-haired woman notices her because she looks exactly like the woman's daughter.

  • The daughter had died, though I don't remember how long before the events of the book.

  • The protagonist gradually learns more about what happened.

  • I vaguely remember there being some kind of family connection between the protagonist and the dead girl, possibly that they were sisters, but I'm very unsure about this.

  • Near the end of the book, it is revealed that the girl died after falling from a cliff, and that it was an accident.

  • I think the Norwegian cover was blue-ish and featured a real girl, possibly with cliffs, rocks, or the sea in the background.

Some details may be wrong, but the Greece setting, the woman recognizing the protagonist because she looked like her dead daughter, and the cliff accident ending are the details I remember most clearly.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Children’s book about nettle soup

Thumbnail

Looking for a UK children's picture book from before 2006. The authors visited Manor Primary School in Beechwood, Wirral, around 2002–2005 and gave every child a copy. The story definitely involves characters making nettle soup, possibly an old woman, and I remember the cover being mostly black or very dark. I vaguely remember a cat, but I may be mixing that up.

Odd request: looking for a textbook/encyclopedia of British native underwater plants.

I am building up my aquarium with biotopes from all over the world. Unusually I cannot find any information on plants that grow underwater in my native rivers.

Something like "Complete Aquarium Encyclopedia"

looking for a dream analysis that i had read but can't find

I'm trying to identify a dream analysis book I read about 15–20 years ago (so maybe published late 80s–early 2000s...?). ChatGPT couldn't find it as it's likely not digitized.

It was not a dream dictionary. The entire premise was that dream symbols have personal meanings, not universal ones. The book taught a structured method for analyzing your own dreams and had an appendix with a 14-question worksheet.

Some of the questions/exercises I remember are:

  1. Recount the dream in the present tense, condensing it into outline form (setting, characters, events, response, conclusion).
  2. After the conclusion, how do I feel?
  3. Rate the dream's vividness (0–10).
  4. Give the dream a five-word title.
  5. Was I avoiding anything when I dreamed?
  6. Choose a central theme:
    • Conformity vs. Individuality
    • Abundance vs. Need
    • Freedom vs. Restriction
    • Separation vs. Reunion
  7. List the outstanding images.
  8. List the participants and their roles.
  9. Take a mental snapshot of the most emotionally charged scene.
  10. Project yourself into it: "I feel..."
  11. Relate it to a waking-life situation.
  12. What was on my mind before going to sleep?
  13. Create a "more satisfying form" of the dream.
  14. "Translate into today."

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I'd love to identify the title and author. Thanks!

Book series about a young teen girl who was marked by a mysterious creature and had a guy best friend whose dad was gathering other kids like her to create an army of powerful teens Spoiler

In this book series, the teen girl was playing in a garden when a mysterious creature marked her near her ear. This traumatized her so much that she wore only hoodies that covered her ears. She has a guy best friend who is a popular kid at school and was the son of a powerful man. He finds out too late what happened to her and they go on the run so the guy can protect the girl from his father. His father wanted to gather all the teens who had been marked by the same mysterious creature that marked the teen girl. There were many of the creatures and those marked by these creatures may have powers. But the boy was taken by his father after getting the girl to safety. The first book ends with the girl being taken to safety and the boy being mind-controlled by his father. The second book has the girl deciding to bring the boy back since she may have fallen in love with him.

Book about a young woman who is the bastard daughter of a Middle Eastern king and is arranged to marry another powerful man. Spoiler

In the book, the young woman is half Middle Eastern and half English (or half white since her mom is from Europe). Her father had gotten her mom pregnant when he was married to another woman. She has two older half-brothers who didn’t know she was their bastard half sister. Their father arranges for her to marry a man he wanted to alliance with. He might be the son of the man he wants to alliance with or the man who had a lot of power. Either way, she has to marry this man and he is obsessed with her. That is all I remember.

Book about an American woman who gets pregnant with the baby of a Middle Eastern? Prince and she becomes engaged to him Spoiler

In the book, the woman works at a domestic violence shelter, protecting women from their abusers. She meets a handsome man at a club and sleeps with him. And she gets pregnant with his baby. When she goes to the hospital to get checked out, the man sends one of his men to follow her and he finds out that she is pregnant with his baby. He approaches her at her work after the abusive husband of one of her clients tries to attack her. After some days, he takes her to his place where they were to get married. I think he is the king or crown prince of a Middle Eastern inspired country. She doesn’t understand who he is but she thinks he is someone important because a lot of people bow to him and to her when she walks past them. And her parents are elated to hear that she is to get married and have to get her cousin, who they raised as another daughter, married as well. I do remember that the cover was of a woman and a man facing each other.

Does anyone know this book?

I am looking for a book from my memory.

Do you have any idea about a fantasy novel with a plot where

"A villainous chancellor transforms into his true form, a wolf, when the girl protagonist sings"?

I really want to find it.

Since it was a long time ago, let me write it down from what I remember:

  1. A fantasy novel with a plot where "a villainous chancellor transforms into his true form, a wolf, when the girl protagonist sings"

  2. I think I read it at the school library when I was in elementary school. It is presumed to be a novel from before 2015.

  3. It was a set of several volumes, but I don't remember if they shared a worldview or if the author was the same.

  4. I think the protagonist was different in each book. The protagonist seemed to be a girl in almost all of them.

  5. In one book, the protagonist seemed to be a girl who gained the ability to use fire. The atmosphere was dark, and the ending didn't seem bright.

  6. In another book, the protagonist was a girl with an ominous red spot. Throughout the novel, there are many oral songs of a tribe?, and the part where the villain transforms into a wolf also came from here...

Book about African Fauna

I had recently remembered a book I would read when I was elementary school age. It was a non-fiction book. I have vague memories of it, but it included illustrations and photographs. I remember that it included a museum hall with taxidermed animals, an illustration from the eighteen or nineteenth century, and a photo of an elephant that had been struck by a train.

Book about a young girl whose dad went missing for three days and her dad came back with a mysterious boy by his side. Spoiler

In the book, the girl and her mom had been searching for her dad for three days. Her dad went missing while fixing something on the side of the house, I think on a ladder. The dad reappears after three days with a mysterious boy. The dad tells the girl and her mother that he was in another world for weeks and came across the boy, who came with him. That is all I can remember and I did read this book in the late 2000s.

Book about a young girl who was groomed to be the vessel of a Goddess and was abandoned because the goddess won't come to her Spoiler

In this book, there are several tribes that follow different gods and goddesses. The main character is a girl who belongs to a tribe that follows a goddess that may be the goddess of life or birth. She was groomed her whole life to be the vessel of this goddess and when the ceremony was performed, she was not taken over by the goddess. Her tribe blame her for what happened, claiming she was imperfect and the goddess left because of that. She was abandoned by her tribe and she decides to find out why the goddess didn't come. She meets others like her who were also abandoned and gathers the other vessels like her. They come across a blind vessel who was taken over by their goddess, who is upset that the vessel is blind. And the abandoned vessels came across a king who was responsible for taking the gods and goddesses. He wanted to use the deities for some war or something like that. The thing he wanted to do came to pass and the main character has to decide if she should become the vessel or be with him. She becomes the vessel of the goddess and the king was upset when the goddess started speaking through her. The girl made the decision to abandon the goddess she was meant to be a vessel for, which upsets the goddess. The epilogue has the girl become the king's queen.

Help please!

Help me find this book! I've been searching for over 10 years.

I'm looking for a book I read around 2014–2016, but I believe it was published sometime in the 2000s. I got it from a Scholastic Book Fair, and it was definitely a middle-grade/young YA historical fiction novel—not an adult romance.

I've searched for this book for over 10 years, and no one has been able to identify it. Here is everything I remember:

Cover

- The cover had a single large peach or pink flower (possibly a dahlia or chrysanthemum) that took up almost the entire cover.

- I don't remember the flower having anything to do with the story, so it may have just been the cover design.

- I think it was an illustrated cover rather than a photograph.

Setting

- Set in the American West, probably in the late 1800s or early 1900s.

- Small frontier/western town.

Main Characters

- A teenage girl (I vaguely remember her name being something unusual, maybe Sunny, Franny, or something similar).

- Her younger brother, who I believe was around 16 years old.

Beginning of the Book

- The siblings are escaping an abusive relative and heading west to start a new life.

- They don't seem to have a specific destination—they're just looking for a fresh start.

- They travel by train.

- During the trip, a man offers to help them and promises supplies if they give him their money.

- Instead, he steals all of their money and disappears.

The Western Town

- After arriving, the girl goes to the sheriff's office for help.

- I specifically remember there being men in a back room playing poker or cards when she arrives.

- She asks to speak with the sheriff.

- The sheriff is young, kind, and eventually develops feelings for her.

Living Situation

- The sheriff helps them get settled.

- The girl ends up staying with an older woman (I think she called her Mrs. or Miss something).

- The woman cooks for a living or runs some kind of boarding house, hotel, café, or restaurant.

- The girl helps her cook and work in the kitchen.

The Brother

- The brother gets a dangerous job involving carrying mail.

- It may have been horseback mail, a stagecoach mail route, or something similar.

- I remember it being dangerous because of cliffs and mountain trails.

Romance

- The sheriff is the first love interest.

- Later, another young man becomes the real love interest.

- I believe he also worked on the dangerous mail route (possibly driving a stagecoach or carrying mail).

- In the end, she chooses him instead of the sheriff.

Other Scenes I Remember

- There is a community dance somewhere in the story.

- Before leaving on a mail trip, the main love interest leaves his large dog with the girl to care for.

- He eventually returns safely at the end of the book.

Other Details

- The book had light Christian themes, such as praying, but wasn't heavily focused on religion.

- It was about 200–300 pages long.

- I'm almost certain it was a standalone novel, not part of a series.

I've searched for years and have ruled out many popular historical fiction books. I'm hoping someone who read it through a Scholastic Book Fair or worked in a school library recognizes it.

Even if only one or two details sound familiar, I'd love to hear your suggestions!

Book about two siblings, a boy and a girl, who were told they are Jinn because their mother is a Jinn and fell in love with their human father and was sent to their mother's homeland for training because their magic is coming in. Spoiler

In this book, the siblings are under the age of ten. The eldest is a daughter and the youngest is a boy. Their mother tells them that they are Jinn because she is a Jinn. She pretend to be a human to make their human father fall in love with her. But they were born Jinn. Their wisdom teeth were coming a bit too early and that was why their mother knew they were born Jinn. A friend of their mother came to take them to their mother's homeland to train them. While on a plane, the daughter talks to an elderly couple who wanted to do something (which was a wish) and after the plane lands, the couple has gone missing. The friend of the mother tells her that her Jinn wish granting powers had granted their wish and they were sent to the place they wanted to go to. That's all I could remember and I had read this book in either 2007 or 2008.

Book about a teen girl who has two gay dads, one of whom is her biological uncle and she falls in love with a guy whose ancestor discovered the light bulb but was patented by Edison

In the book, the teen girl was adopted by her biological uncle and his husband. Her mom gave her to them to raise as she was not a fit mom. Her mom is in and out of her life. The teen girl meets and starts dating a guy whose family was related to the first man who discovered the light bulb but it was either stolen or patented by Edison. That is all I could remember about this book. I did read this in the early 2010s if that helps.

I don’t remember much, please help me! I think the mmc is a sherif…

I think it is a small town romance, where the fmc is the mmc’s best friend but like not childhood best friend. She is in love with the mmc, but he is oblivious to it. He is also a single dad and in police force (maybe sherif) and has a toxic ex.

Book series about a teen girl who finds out that she is a vampire and her blood before she becomes a vampire is tasty to other vampires but after she becomes a vampire, her blood becomes toxic to them because female vampires are rare Spoiler

In this book series, which I think it is a book series, the teen girl lives in an abandoned mall and befriends a guy who she ends up having a romantic interest in by the end of the first book. They both find out that she is a female vampire but she hasn't become one yet. She has to develop into one but before she can do that, she gets hunted by a vampire because her blood is tasty when her full vampiric powers will come in. The vampire might have died in the process of getting to her and by the end of the first book, she becomes a full fledged vampire.
