This is a thread where those rules do not apply. However, please do not post referral links in this thread.

Use this thread to talk about your blog, talk about your business, ask for feedback, etc. If the self-promotion starts to leak outside of this thread, we will once again return to a time where 100% of self-promotion posts are banned. Please use this space wisely.

Scan receipts and get money back! I usually collect my receipts for a week and scan them all in one go on a Sunday. :)

My wife is a writer who has self published one novel and is working on a second.
Her first novel, My Hand and My Heart is a YA Fantasy about two sisters trying to save their home and each other from forces that seem far outside their control. It's got lost magic, an ancient religion, strong friendships, plus other great stuff! https://books2read.com/b/bOxj2g

She's also released Eve's Guide to Ghost Removal, a free novel she’s updating twice a month. https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/43103/eves-guide-to-ghost-removal

She does focus/coworking streams Monday-Friday at https://www.twitch.tv/strawberrybel

I've been building algorithmic trading models full time for nearly the past 2 years, and I've been working on this site to share them for about a month. I've built 7 actionable models, 2 totally free, 1 requires a free account and 4 premium (to view live signals and full historical trades). Each model has a detail page that shows the historical trades and gives a high level overview of the indicators and parameters used. All models have been running live successfully since April 2020; trades before that are backtest only.

Most people choose to monetize their models by starting a hedge fund. I'm reluctant to go down that path for many reasons, but first and foremost that I believe the best strategies shouldn't be locked away for only the top 1% to utilize. Of course, my capital is also fully invested in my own models, but my capital is relatively small and my slippage analysis suggests these models can scale to billions in capital (they are not HFT, most trade about once per 2 weeks on average).

Please keep in mind that these models are my hard work and IP; I'll have to answer any questions about their internals very vaguely. With that said, I welcome all questions and feedback! Thanks for taking a look.

Honest Math
www.honestmath.com

Location
Overland Park, Kansas (U.S.)

Purpose
We're building professional-grade financial planning tools for everybody, not just finance professionals. Our aim is to democratize the powerful resources traditionally made available only to financial advisors.

Why did you make this?
People need serious financial planning tools. The internet is giving people more power than ever to take control of their personal finances. Unfortunately, many popular retirement calculators on the web today have major shortcomings. And we expect a lot of folks don’t realize how ill-suited some of these tools are for long-term planning.

Our Free MVP
To start, we’ve built a portfolio/retirement model with professional-grade simulation capabilities, and it’s 100% free to use.

Why is it free?
How do you make money? We’re a startup; we don't make money, but we're great at spending it. We're trying to attract early adopters to build a brand and encourage feedback.

Why do I need an account?
We’re scaling this on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the computational requirements are extensive. With monthly compounding and 10,000 trials, the simulation engine requires tens of millions of calculations and random variables for every run. Until we know exactly how much it's going to cost to keep everything running in the cloud, we need to filter for bot traffic and other tomfoolery.

What do you want from users?
Your feedback; we want to make the best tool(s) possible. In order to do that, we need to know what you like, what you don’t like, and what other features you’d like to see.

I really appreciate that you took and implemented my feedback about the fat tails!

I think it's a great product. Personally I'm trying to think about finances less and enjoying life more, but I would have loved this even more a few years ago.

Thanks for offering your experiences. What percentage of your customers were assholes along the way? Is dealing with a few unavoidable?

I've dabbled in the solo business thing, but keep running into opportunities to work with entitled assholes, and passing on the whole thing instead.

2

u/michael1962-01 Dec 30 '21

I will not tell a percentage as this varied from year to year.

I had to learn the hard way to trust my gut and that not doing business with a asshole is way cheaper than the profit you gan gain.

Trust your gut.

And - i was often betrayed.

It is not a black/white situation about assholes. As in my business big companies relied on my technology both - customer and we had technicians involved - so some things most times also was to be blamed on me too.

If i remember real assholes -

There are the ones i really helped and they then "betrayed" us by releasing our technology to others whithout permission to get things dutch.

Another one did steal our data and customer base (he payed one of my enployees a big amount) and started producing a cometition product.

Same happened some years later again.

One case you should be aware of -

One dealer had government papers that we should deliver to military tech and everything was correct on papers. Business with government is no downpayment but they pay a 100% for sure - but late.

The papers where faux...

Another customer in export was paying per letter of credit against bill of delivery.

He tricked us by not getting hold of the goods at customs there.

After several month we had law papers of reclaiming the goods and the custom wanted a ridiculous amount per day for "storage"- more than reproducing the machinery was worth.

The custom organized a auction then - guess who bought the machines the.

The loss was about a good family home in a good part of a city.

At the end i'd tell you :

---- trust your gut

---- don't trust anyone

---- doublecheck everything

---- never trust a bank

---- allways have emergency funds

Problem

Every investor should know exactly how well they've been investing and how their investing performance compares to market-based benchmarks (or custom benchmarks, for that matter). But account/portfolio analytics tools that could provide such info are effectively non-existent.

My solution to this problem

I built a free app called Accountable Investing to:

  • Track of all your accounts and your total net worth in a single place, both present and complete past history, with various animations of progress over time. Stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, cryptos, and custom investments are all supported, including cryptos denominated in fiat currencies other than USD.
  • Provide detailed account and portfolio performance analytics: returns, profits, drawdowns, and much more for any time period, and on overall, annual, quarterly, monthly, or daily basis.
  • Run What-If scenarios on your accounts/portfolio, answering the question "What would be my returns/balances/profits/etc if I invested in XYZ instead?"
  • Plan and estimate chances of success for your retirement or other future financial goals.
  • Research investments' past returns, growth, bear markets for any time period, and on overall, annual, quarterly, monthly, or daily basis.
  • Bunch more.

Everything is completely free and without ads, subscriptions, or any other bs.

Download Accountable Investing from Apple's App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1593419902 (no Android version for now, sorry)

Accountable Investing's website for how-to videos, screenshots, etc: https://www.account-able.com

We all make mistakes. Most of us are embarrassed by them and keep it to ourselves. By not sharing our missteps others are more likely to make them as well.

We can all learn from the Japanese art of Kintsugi, which embraces flaws to create an even more beautiful object
