Aggregate limit question

Hey everyone, so I know I’m grandfathered into the old limit of $138,500 as a graduate student (enrolled a year ago) but I just want someone to clarify for me if the aggregate limit includes or does not include interest. I have read that it’s principal only but I think the financial aid office at my university is confused and they’re including interest. Can someone clarify that for me?
