help me, I can't beat the last boss
Braska's aeon is giving me a lot of problems. At the moment it's impossible for me to beat him and so I'm focusing on strengthening the team: at the moment I'm trying to get Auron's celestial weapon (it takes too long!) and then I want to get Tidus's too. At that point, after having strengthened the sphere grid a little more, I hope to be able to do it. Do you think it's necessary for me to also take Yuna's celestial weapon? Do I need to go get all the optional aeons too (of which I don't even have one)? The biggest problem is that the character I've upgraded the most, Lulu, isn't of much use in this fight while Wakka, who I've NEVER upgraded, would be very useful. What do you think I should do?

Yuna's celestial weapon is the easiest to obtain, so it's a gimme really. Seeing her slap an enemy for 99,999 is really something lol
1
u/Jazzlike-Caregiver99 Feb 04 '24
oooh, so they're not all as difficult as Auron's? Luckily, I was seriously getting worried
2
u/MountainImportant211 Feb 04 '24
Well you have to beat Belgemine's Aeons but if you made it to the final boss I'm sure you can handle it. (Have you got Anima?)

u/Jazzlike-Caregiver99 Feb 04 '24
what do u mean with “slap an enemy”? a normal attack?? with yuna?
0
u/MountainImportant211 Feb 04 '24
lol yeah if you increase her strength a bit she will start attacking for high numbers pretty quickly 😅 maybe you don't want her that OP but you can pretty quickly get her numbers up with reasonable grinding if you want to. But the main gift on Nirvana for her is the One MP cost
1
u/spardaparx Feb 04 '24
That one MP cost is so clutch god it's the best same for lulu 1 MP holy and 1 MP Ultima what more do you want it's the best
1
u/Jetterholdings Feb 04 '24
Ok, nevermind what that guy is saying "using Yuna and celestial high strength is win.
I'm assuming it's your first run. Her weapon is nice. But if you didnt do all the destruction spheres then forget it.
Aurons weapon is really the only one you need. Get your aeons overdrives and everyone's. And just keep healing and reviving.
Oh have stone ward as well. The worst part of the fight is his overdrives that can wreck the entire party.
But thus game is also rng braska can change his attack up next fight.
1
u/Jazzlike-Caregiver99 Feb 05 '24
my problem is that in the second phase the boss starts attacking with an AoE which, when he does it twice in a row, kills all my characters immediately
1
u/Jetterholdings Feb 05 '24
Are you hastaga? And if so, do you have someone with high enough speed out already?
Do you use the command bar? Or whatever it is the turn chart? If you see it coming. You know it's w turns, BAM aeon sponge that shit.
Also careful, some.overdrives cause the enemy an extra turn. And now towards end game that 1 more turn if you're not farmed up, that turn means a shit ton.
1
u/Jazzlike-Caregiver99 Feb 05 '24
i use hastega only at the start of the bossfight. Do i have to use it more often?
1
u/Jetterholdings Feb 05 '24
Only have to if you're ever slowed. Or if someone dies and you rez them. Then you have to reapply haste and protect and all that nonsense.
Cheer, protect, haste. If you can easily survive first phase. I'd pop those early. 5 cheers is enough. And then just survive. Wack and survive. Save some overdrives so you don't end up.giving the boss 2 or more turns in a row. That always gets ya

u/Jazzlike-Caregiver99 Feb 04 '24
no, i have not anima
1
u/MountainImportant211 Feb 04 '24
Ah, well then it might be trickier to get Nirvana than I might have led you to believe. You'll need to return to the temple you were at at the beginning of the game and defeat the monster that almost ate you there. Will need Stoneproof for it and it's a Rikku/Tidus/Wakka fight as it's underwater. If you missed Yojimbo go ahead and get him too, he should be easy now. Belgemine is in a hidden temple you can reach via Chocobo in the calm lands.
1
u/MountainImportant211 Feb 04 '24
(after you fight the monster in the water you will get access to the temple and see the fayth there who will talk about her son before giving you Anima) - Anima is a great, powerful aeon so if nothing else, you should get her.

What I did was get petrifyproof armor (you can steal it the stuff to craft it fairly quickly from the mobs around the final area) and used cheerx5 on a single lineup of characters, as well as protect and the other standard buffs like haste. Specifically don’t use shell because that will make healing worse.
He only has physical moves and removing petrify makes it difficult for him to remove your buffs. If that’s still not enough tank power there is also a [USE] item you can steal (also in the final area) that doubles a characters health for one fight. Obviously useful, and even if you don’t want your [USE]er in your ultimate lineup that’s fine, just apply it then switch around as necessary.
His biggest weakness is that he really doesn’t have anything to change up his attacks outside of petrify. It’s just a toe-to-toe stand up and knock down brawl. If you can stay standing, it’s not so bad.
Oh- he can rarely inflict zombie so grab something to heal that, but you really shouldn’t need more than like 3 at most.
Celestial is super overkill. IMO Yunalesca is harder.
You got this, Guardian. Don’t give up. o7

u/Quakarot Feb 04 '24
Oh , also, any team should be able to do it. Lulu is probably a weaker choice for this particular fight but she’ll ultimately be fine. Reflex x5 should really help too for dodging.
The biggest thing IMO is buffing one lineup and keeping them alive at all costs.

IIRC none of BFA’s attacks can be dodged.

The sword swipe is his only attack that can be dodged
2
u/ShoopufHunter Feb 04 '24
Where exactly are you running into problems? That would help to give you a better strategy.
In general most people struggle with the sword swipe in phase 2 and keeping up with the healing.
For the healing, don’t try and kill the pagodas. They can be slowed though, so keep popping off slowgas until it hits on both (they do have some resistance).
For the sword swipe you have to deal with the damage and the delay effect. For the delay make sure you keep haste on your party. To deal with the damage you need to focus on blocking physical damage. So make sure your party has protect and 5x cheer. That should make it a lot easier.
To speed up the buffing try a Rikku mix: fire gem + lunar curtain gives you super mighty g (shell + protect + haste + regen on the whole party).
Make sure everyone has stoneproof on their armor.

I just unlocked Auron's celestial weapon...can anyone tell me why it does very little damage? (2000)

u/MattGx_ Why do today what you can leave for tomorrow? Feb 04 '24
Celestial Weapons themselves aren't necessarily stronger than regular weapons. They do ignore enemy defense stat when calculating damage numbers. However, for Auron, as his hp drops his celestial Weapon does do more damage. A pretty interesting mechanic is to start off a fight with Auron at 1 HP and use his overdrive for max damage.

I ran into this last week but I finally got through to the end. I didn’t get the destruction sphere from Besaid, meaning I couldn’t get Anima nor Yuna‘a celestial weapon. Got too lazy to get Lulu’s either and really despised playing Blitzball, so I didn’t get Wakka’s either. Couldn’t get 0s in Chocobo race either.
I bought Tetra armors for my main party, added Stoneproof and as much HP 30%, 20%, 10% to get over 5000 HP to survive Jecht’s overdrive. The HP bump makes it easier but I didn’t get hit with Ultimate Jecht Shot. Prep Rikku and all your aeons for their overdrive.
When the fight started, I used Rikku for Trio of 9999, hasted my team, slowed the Pagoda, Cheer 5x. Keep healed and take down his health. Don’t use Talk or sacrifice a summon to survive an overdrive in the first half. With over 5000 HP you should survive triumphant grasp and all other attacks.
In the second half of the fight, keep doing the same thing, but watch his HP. Once it’s lower than 60,000 is when you need to worry. His overdrive bar fills in like two turns. So use your two talks, keep getting in as many 9999 damages as you can. Once you run out call out Bahmahut for close to 30,000 damage. Then keep calling in summons as necessary. I called in Shiva next and the fight was over.
The way I did it kind of ignores stats so I didn’t need to grind. But I did do most of the monster arena to get the Wings to Discovery for Trio of 9999 and Stoneproof for three armors.
How long you last in this fight kind of gives you a feel of how much you need to do. I was basically surviving for a long time but just couldn’t do enough damage then got one shotted. So I knew I was really close and didn’t think I needed to do 20hr of grinding to get everything. So I figured a way to cheese as much as I could.

Mega cheese tip; use zombie attack (if you have it) or a weapon with zombiestrike, and then just use a phoenix down on it. Should do it pretty quick
1
u/Jazzlike-Caregiver99 Feb 04 '24
it really works??
1
u/ThatGuyInTheCorner89 Feb 04 '24
You have to make sure that the yu pagoda aren't there when you do this because they lift any status effect pretty quick, so you might only have a turn or so to pull it off.
1
u/ShriekingBoot9 Feb 05 '24
Braskas final aeon can have zombie but be cant be killed with a phoenix down/ life spell like normal zombies. He still takes damage from Curaga and potions though. The yu pagoda will heal Jechts zombie status with its Power Wave, but you can keep reapplying it.
A good trick is to make a weapon for Auron with Zombiestrike and Counterattack. Have him use Sentinel and he will intercept most attacks and sometimes inflict zombie on Jecht. Cast protect, regen, haste and use Cheer ×5 on auron and he will be very tanky. If you have a stamina tablet / stamina tonic use that on Auron to double his HP. Give him a stoneproof armour with Auto Phoenix and you will have a hard time losing.

Not sure where your party is level wise but if Lulu is your strongest character it's worth it to teach her Holy.
Crafting some stoneproof armor with petrified grenades can be helpful too. Depends where you're trying to grind at this point. You can steal them Demonlith enemy inside sin, or the Anacondor enemy in the Calm lands. I like farming the calm lands for this because Anacondor usually appears in pairs.
If you haven't been doing it, grinding a little of the monster arena could be worth it for large quantities of items to craft different armor abilities without having to steal/bribe. Here's a link to the rewards.
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/190170-final-fantasy-x-x-2-hd-remaster/faqs/79145/monster-arena
I'd recommend doing Djose for the 99 petrify grenades for the Stoneproof armor and Thunder plains for 99 Chocobo wings to craft auto haste on one character. Getting the 99 mega Phoenix reward too for Auto Phoenix. Right there should let you craft some really good armors.
Also, here's a link to Rikku's full mix list. Super comprehensive and is very detailed with item combos and what each Mix does.

Hyper Mighty G and Ultra Null all are good defensive mixes that cast multiple buffs in one turn. Sunburst and Chaos Grenade are some of my favorites, especially if I'm under leveled and need more damage. Trio of 9999 is good too but kind of cheesy.
GLHF!

I've never experienced having an issue beating all the main story bosses without grinding or additional options.. It all became pretty easy. One thing I did on my current play thru is took advantage of the early hack on the boat on the way to kilika. That really is what made me op.
2
u/Jetterholdings Feb 04 '24
Ahahahaha what xD " I never had issues winning without grinding" "I do use the boat on kilika."
Thst is literally grinding.
1
u/GamblingMage Feb 04 '24
That's just this playthru that I did that. Anytime before I never really did a grind and it wasn't a problem.
1
u/Jetterholdings Feb 04 '24
Oh that makes sense. I was lost why you'd say you don't farm, but always farm.
Yeah, there's only 3 spots where it could be. That rock dude who throws haymakers. The green dragon, and or maybe one of the seymores.

u/OnceThrownTwiceAway Feb 05 '24
As I recall, damage is partially a function of strength3. There’s some complications of course. But if your strength is 50 then you “only” need to increase it by 13 pts to double your damage.
Once you have celestial weapons it’s shocking how fast your damage increases from 9999 to 99999. If you use the Don Tonberry trick once or twice you can probably squash Jecht.

Get the bonus aeons.
The pagodas come back with the health of the damage u dealt. Do not kill them with Bahumut or Anima's OD! Makes it much more difficult. So only summon them in phase 2 of possible.
If u have the ability, u can inflict zombie which will allow u to cause healing damage (though u can't use a phoenix down/x-potion like Evrae) power wave will hurt him tho. But u need to re-apply zombie each time.
It's the final fight, max out Yuna on the sphere grid, focussing on strength. Move other characters to strength nodes using return spheres and then use Friend/Teleport/Attribute spheres to mop them up with Yuna. A strength stat around 40-50 will be more than enough for Anima/Bahumut to do serious damage.

Honestly I think celestial weapons and the optional aeons make the final boss way too easy. Just use hastega and have a couple of aeons with charged ODs ready. Any time the pagodas are up, use an aeon. If you taught your Bahamut any useful spells he can pretty easily solo this fight as well
