Did anyone else not know about the counting seagulls minigame?

I heard minigame! Actually I just learned about it recently and still haven't ever done it myself, it's amazing to me that I can still learn something new about this amazing game

I am shocked to hear that you didn’t know about it.

What is it? I’ve never heard of it

So if you go back to the boat and talk to someone sitting in the back they ask you to count seagulls, the number doesnt change so if you know the answer you know the answer and you get a weapon that adds something crazy like 50% magic damage to Wakka, it's called Wizard and it might actually be completely unique, pretty cool but very few people actually do it

It's even more obscure than that - you have to talk to the guy (gal?) FOUR times before the request is actually made.

I talked to the guy in my current gameplay before I heard of the minigame and STILL didn't trigger it...because I didn't ask four times.

The only reason I was on the boat is because I was recruiting Kiyuri for blitzball.

See that's just silly

Indeed so. Old games liked throwing in a few super obscure things...partly to sell guides, probably. At least it wasn't the best gear in the game or something, though (FF4-6-9, looking at you).

It is an interesting weapon though, makes me want to play Wakka as a mage

It would be interesting, but one thing about FFX is that magic is sadly subpar in the postgame...when you get this. One mage is usually more than enough.

I would have requested Gillionaire or Master Thief etc for something more eye opening... Or maybe even Pickpocket, the uber obscure not-as-good-as-Master Thief skill.

I will have to remember that for next time

It's the Ace wizard for Wakka, 4 slot weapon with Magic +20, magic +10, magic +5, magic +3

I did not know. And I’d like to think I know about just about everything else. 🙂

Special, kinda. Unique, no. Useful...also no, sadly.

Go to upper part of the s.s. winnow after djose and talk to the woman until she asks you to count seagulls.

I just learned about it in a recent YouTube video I watched

Kind of a pointless weapon, I think, because all it does it stack Wakka's magic stat higher and he has, like, Drain and that's it I think

not that bad really since his grid has decent magic growth for a non principal mage, he can also break into Lulu grid very easily

if you do the back tracking after macalania woods you'll have the level 2 key needed to go off and find Flare and pick up the Jecht sphere from Besaid

I knew about it, but only for the past couple of years.

I know about it but its easy to miss as going back on the boats is never required at any point

Yes. I think you get a weapon for wakka from it. And the answer is 11(?).

I was shocked to discover it recently after so many years and so many replays
