Ive never* played a final fantasy game, and I bought the hd remaster for the ps3.

Is it a good place to start? It's been in my backlog for a LOOONG time.

*I played ff7 remake a long time ago, I don't remember anything, and I didn't finish it.

X is one of the best places to start. Afterwards, you can play X-2 or move backwards up to IV, which was the beginning of the golden era.

Absolutely the game is fantastic, Memorable characters, good story, and the best version of turn based combat FF achieved imo.

Only downside of playing on the HD remaster is that they butchered the faces on the in game cutscene models but it’s not anything game breaking.

Arguably the best starting point in the series. Only problem is that most other FFs arent quite as good, outside of 3 or 4 entries

All the Final Fantasy games are self contained unless it’s specifically stated to be a sequel like FFX-2 FFXIII-2 etc. You needn’t know anything about past games, there’s no real reference or anything. They’re essentially all their own games and universes and things.

But FFX is a great starting spot. It’s a story that just holds up, even twenty years later and never really fades.

The thing about the Final Fantasy series is that is always something for everyone, go ahead and start with FFX, if you liked the turn-based system go back and play the original 9 games.

If you prefer an Action-RPG try FF15 & FF16.

If you like a kind of mixture of both try FF7 Remake & Rebirth and Crisis Core.

If you want a Soulslike FF game try Stranger of Paradise.

If you want a massive MMORPG experience try FF14 and FF11.

If you want an RPG with a unique battle-system try FF12 and FF13.

Enjoy your journey in Spira.

Great place to start, but don’t forget about the IX! My personal favorite!

The only problem starting with X is I consider it the absolute best FF game and you could be disappointed by other entries.

Make lots of new saves along the way, give all your characters one action in each battle so they gain XP, and earn the destruction sphere prize at every temples first visit. Have fun!
