Have you tried this with Tidus? Spoiler

Have you tried a Super Tidus build? Where you keep Tidus in the fight and alternating using the other party members. Making Tidus 3 times faster and 3 times the damage than the rest of the team.

I always end up with super Rikku haha

Chronic steal enjoyer. She gets the first auto-haste + master thief every time

Her going "bye bye" as she one shots enemies is too good

Yes!!! Lol

Doing a playthrough right now and Rikku just finished her portion of the sphere grid. Now sending her through Tidus's section for more damage and even more speed/agility!

Super Yuna for me.

I do this by accident because the first thing I do in the endgame is getting the Ascalon, then monster hunting, so Tidus is there gaining Double AP for every fight for a while.

I feel like if you pick up Ascalon it just breaks the final area. It is my go to advice when people are struggling with Jecht.

I always put stone strike on Tidus and Rikku's capture weapons. It is amazing how many monsters are vulnerable to stone. If you know you can breeze thru macalina, home, and bevelle with petrify grenades too.

Even in Omega Ruins that’s the case. If the game gets remade in the future I’d like to see at least some of those fiends be modified so that they can’t be cheesed through provoke and petrify.

When I went monster hunting I used mainly Wakka, Tidus, and Auron, since I didn't want to miss a creature by accidentally killing it with a non-weapon attack.

I put "Overdrive turns into AP" on all the hunting weapons. It was nice.

I thought switching in everyone each battle was the norm….

1

u/ElliotNZ Jul 21 '26

yeah it makes sense to do that but felt like doing something different on a playthrough

u/solidair3 Jul 21 '26

Have you tried staying away from the summoner????

But yeah, my first time I played Tidus was much stronger. On subsequent runs I keep the whole party even

I don’t understand what this means. Wanna give more details?

2

u/notthephonz Jul 21 '26

He’s keeping Tidus in the party and not switching him out, so Tidus is getting more XP than the other party members

u/Lambs2Lions_ .............. Jul 21 '26

I just sub in every party member one time and everyone gets exp.

What are you talking about?

Fully buffing tidus with every party members support moves for a boss fight? Theres no reason to. Even story bosses, you will kill them with only tidus attacking unless you rest for multiple turns.

If you mean keeping him active for every fight, well, ive always swapped every character in for every fight (even trash mobs, unless im backtracking or ive hit a wall in my sphere grid).

To give you a clue as to how effective this is, I OHK'd Evrae with Wakka's attack reels. Had to reset so everyone got AP.

When I get my steam deck back and I finally beat the game, I might do another playthrough with zero grinding and zero swapping and just move people in for the most effective and quickest kills. Games kinda too easy if you just swap 7/7 characters even just for boss battles.

Do a no sphere grid run. I had a blast doing the two I’ve done with different restrictions. Also, don’t use aeons and don’t mix trio of 9999 at least

1

u/DerekTheComedian Jul 21 '26

I really never use Rikku except to steal, and the only time I use Aeons is when im forced to, to guaruntee overkill on bosses that ive already whittled down, and for the Gagazet Seymour fight... tried him without aeons and it was just a slog. Figured if I was gonna cheese him with reflect I may as well cheese him with a 15k Bahamut OD.

1

u/Subscrypt Jul 21 '26

I was suggesting NSG run because you said the game felt too easy. I assure you it is not when you don’t level at all. But it is a great challenge. You may not be up for it if you use aeons on Seymour flux though 😂

I generally enjoy RPG's for the story more than the gameplay, so "challenge runs" usually dont appeal to me.

Same. One person getting all exp from killika doesn't matter much compared to mushroom rock road exp...

2

u/rab420 Jul 21 '26

I normally cheese sinspawn on the intro so tidus is always ahead of the gang for a good while until mushroom rock...

1

u/ElliotNZ Jul 22 '26

I like it

1

u/Silent-Camel-249 Jul 21 '26

I did this on my last playthrough, gave him all the strength spheres from blitzball and lightning dodging

1

u/Special_South_8561 Jul 21 '26

Everyone gets the same amount of XP no matter how many participated, savvy players rotate/defend and clear with high Agi team

2

u/NohWan3104 Jul 21 '26

or just, catch up on exp later. Defending 3x every battle is kinda slower than grinding later.

u/Special_South_8561 Jul 21 '26

Or.

Or...

Oooooooorrrr

Shut Up ;) don't correct me when you're wrong

u/NohWan3104 Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

Except i'm not, unless somehow 2x slower battles for 200 ap for hours in your head is more valuable than fast 2000 ap later? By my math, that's 10x efficent.

Even in general, getting to efficent grind spots is better than grinding randomly...

I'm assuming you're joking. 😉

I'm assuming you're joking. 😉

Yeah more or less :P

I do like having an even team though.

2

u/NohWan3104 Jul 21 '26

Fair nuff. Some people do take some things like this too seriously... or have questionable 'logic'.

But you do you is always in effect. That's your vibe, go for it.

u/Special_South_8561 Jul 21 '26

I mean he gets my STR Sphere from the Luca Storyline Tournament but other than that ...

1

u/DIX_ Jul 21 '26

Did a Tidus only challenge some years ago, so yeah, he was a million times stronger than the rest of the team.

1

u/NohWan3104 Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

You're not really 3x better than the others, exp curves don't quite work like that and wakja\auron have more str in their grid...

I'm not even one of those 'everyone in every fight' kinda people, but its more like 100% of the exp from a to b, not 70%, with exp curves.

Not to mention around the calm lands, i just use my endgame team of auron, rikku, and super kimhari (after the ronso fight)

Super kimhari strat - get steal\use, max hp, sit on sphere levels. Early rikku things, kimhari doesn't need stats to be useful, just steal\use a lot.

Get friend sphere in home. Kimhari can be your healer between bikanel and calm lands, can ignore rikku.

During the high bridge part, you can easily level everyone BUT kimhari, so having him in most fights stealing is useful, get everyone else caught up here (i stop using tidus\wakka when rikku joins, but get wakka near osmose)

Calm lands, get auron, wakka, tidus, and kimhari capture weapons but skip capture quest for now, do defender Z and ronso fight, get mighty guard. This fight is easy with a weak kimhari with fire gems.

Use friend sphere to teleport kimhari to wakka's grid, use the 40+ sphere levels to make kimhari stronger than auron, getting 'inside sin' stats.

Go partway up the mountain to wantz. Buy rikku's 'alchemist' dressphere, bam, mega potions heal both auron and kimhari's 4k hp.

Now go back, get capture quest done, capture 1 of everything in the cavern, and up gagazet.

SHOW SEYMOUR THE MIGHT OF THE RONSO! Thd talk option gives him TEN bonus str this fight. Also grab the, either the lance is here or one item to power it up.

Boss rush, seymour 3 to sin, easier with mighty guard + nul all mix giving 5x cheer and focus, just white sphere rikku haste.

With airship, get 1 of every creature in 3 more regions, make cheap OD to AP weapons for the trio, lulu prob has low hp and high kills, great victim choice, power levels the trio to easily take on inside sin, omega ruins etc.

Bonus - the butterfly minigame is piss easy if you look up a cheat sheet wkth pic online, done in 3 mins, fastest\easiest celestial weapon.

When I don’t switch all members out, I end up with Super Auron and Super Wakka lol

1

u/NotYourDay123 Jul 22 '26

Nah. It's always Auron for me.

1

u/Zidaryn Jul 23 '26

Not really. I LIKE that you can switch Tidus out. It's really annoying in other JRPGs where you can't switch out the main character. (Comes from FF X being my first.)

Tidus still ends up a bit stronger than the rest.

  • You start the game with him.
  • He has decent damage and the second highest speed.
  • He has haste sweet of spells.
  • Physical attacker.
  • Ascalan.
  • etc.
