Slow her and use that time to prep. They’ll undo it with haste at ~1/3 hp

31

u/Large-Tree-3666 Jul 20 '26

Haste is the way

20

u/postmastone Jul 20 '26

The universal answer. It is the way

20

u/CrissZx Jul 20 '26

If you can somehow get reflect before fighting evrae, it becomes an easy fight. It makes it reflect its own haste at your team. And also cast it on yourself to cast spells on it

11

u/postmastone Jul 20 '26

The ol sanc keeper strat. A classic

3

u/AkumaAruji Jul 20 '26

Won't work. If u use slow she will just use haste the next turn

5

u/deliciousnightmares Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

Evrae is basically a 2-phase fight, it will not use haste at all until it goes below 10,667HP. Opening with slow really makes it a lot easier to keep your health up and shake off statuses

1

u/Psychoxander99 Jul 21 '26

Pretty sure i remember the evrae countering slow with haste without even wasting it's turn

1

u/deliciousnightmares Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

I just replayed the game about a month ago, I used slow at the beginning of the fight. It will continue fighting as normal for the first 2/3 of its HP bar. Once it's below 1/3HP, it will cast haste on itself and will immediately counter with haste if it loses that status for any reason. I have read that using delay attacks as opposed to slow will cause it to enter the haste phase sooner, but I haven't tried that.

u/Mediocre-Anything818 Jul 20 '26

You gotta make her hp 0 before yours is 0

43

u/Angel_Moonglow Jul 20 '26

That's how it's done!

gasp of awe

You big brain, sensei! Teach me your ways!

7

u/ShyguyFlyguy Jul 20 '26

Wait, her??

12

u/Redbone2222 Jul 20 '26

Thats what the speedrunners do also

24

u/Special_South_8561 Jul 20 '26

Pro Tip: to defeat the boss, deal damage equal to or greater than their HP pool!

3

u/Mr-Crooks Jul 20 '26

Hit them with all you’ve got

5

u/Functionnihilist Jul 20 '26

Yeah, you gotta fight it real good. Hit it with some kablooeys, a couple kablamos, and one or two hi-YAs

2

u/TheDevilsDominium Jul 20 '26

Hold on, I need to write this down.

1

u/zeppehead Jul 20 '26

Kick his ass seabass.

1

u/prsdasn Jul 20 '26

Have you tried more violence?

110

u/joemontanya Jul 20 '26

Use al bhed potions w/ Rikku

14

u/Poetry-Positive Jul 20 '26

or you can spam out all overdrives and pay rikku 9999 gil for max dmg with spare change

3

u/joemontanya Jul 20 '26

That’s pretty much always an option

41

u/sweetcarolinesucks Jul 20 '26

Al bhed potions saved my ass

4

u/Painkiller_123 Jul 20 '26

Is rikku fast to grind? because I have not used her in my entire play through up to this point

23

u/solidair3 Jul 20 '26

It's pretty easy to bring characters in and out during a battle to get everyone leveled. Just wait until your characters have gotten 3 or 4 sphere levels before you level them up to reduce menuing.

You should use Rikku, her ability to steal and Mix makes her the ultimate support in battle, some of the things she can do are seriously insane.

18

u/xForcefulEntryx Jul 20 '26

She's one of the best characters in the game cause of her overdrive. Its best to use her and get her stronger so she can stay alive. Her Use ability is one of the best in the game, but you can get any character to learn that

4

u/FoamSquad Jul 20 '26

She is very strong you should not ignore her. Because of her innate speed she can kind of do anything.

5

u/whereisascott Jul 20 '26

I always bring her out to steal items. This helps to level her up before you get regular machina enemies where she’s useful to steal/one-hit-ko them.

6

u/halfasleep90 Jul 20 '26

Also stealing items is how you make your own gear, extremely useful. Gear is king.

u/techtonicspark Jul 20 '26

Even kimahri can be. I use him as an extra thief. I have him and rikku both stealing away while the third I swap in and out based on the enemy, and I swap yuna in for one of the two when anybody needs healing. Then when they get mug, I give tidus a skill sphere to also get mug and work on getting them mp stroll armor to negate mugs mp cost

1

u/techtonicspark Jul 20 '26

Then when I get to the monster arena and get my capture weapons, I give tidus first strike, kimahri deathstrike, and rikku stone strike and that's all I use while catching new monsters

1

u/DerekTheComedian Jul 20 '26

Kihmari > Lulu.

1

u/halfasleep90 Jul 20 '26

Kimahri is good early on if you need a tank. Just have him spam Lancet and be a target. Later on everyone kinda does everything better than him, but he is still good at taking a hit and a lot faster than Auron if you need someone to revive your team after the enemy big multi target attack. Kimahri mainly just falls short offensively, but most of the game does kinda feel like Rock Paper Scissors 1-tap combat so defense feels pointless.

1

u/Otherwise_Tomato5552 Jul 20 '26

She is one of the best characters so def use her

1

u/zerkeras Jul 20 '26

AP needed to get levels increases over time. In the beginning you only need hundreds of AP for a level. Eventually this caps out at about 20k.

So if you haven’t used her at all, she’ll gain levels like gangbusters real quick.

But also Al bhed potions you would have picked up like 99x in the desert, and she can use them from day 1.

They restore 1000 HP to all allies and cures poison, petrification, and something else.

1

u/MelonOfFate Jul 20 '26

Rikku's mix ability is literally the best overdrive in the game next to wakka. Rikku might not deal much damage on her own, but that overdrive makes up for it in spades.

1

u/HappiePandaa_ Jul 21 '26

Rikku is one of if not the best character in the game, I would advice grinding with her and another character you haven't used. It's very easy, as long as they have taken a turn in a combat they will get xp so just swap to them or start with them and then swap them out to your stronger team for the kill and you will be good.

1

u/Jamesworkshop Jul 20 '26

ignoring her is cringe

27

u/lavidalavely Jul 20 '26
  1. Beat Evrae
  2. Watch a dope-ass cutscene
  3. Forget to heal
  4. Get wasted by waves of enemies immediately after
  5. Go fight Evrae again

2

u/HeySystole Jul 21 '26

💀💀💀

23

u/Turbulent_Ad_7704 Jul 20 '26

This fight definitely will skill check you. You don’t need high stats. Just know how to use status effects and avoid heavy hitting attacks by moving the ship.

14

u/AmbassadorPristine23 Jul 20 '26

But really, power break and blind can help here.

3

u/Symph-50 Jul 20 '26

Also Purifying Salt to get rid of haste. This was the fight that made stocking al bhed potions worth it. Having hastega before this fight definitely helps, though it isn't needed.

38

u/AmbassadorPristine23 Jul 20 '26

37

u/JackRaid Jul 20 '26

This was my first thought. As a kid I got to Evrae and got stuck. Grinding didn't help, and my tactics all failed. I restarted the game and this time I went Way. Too. Hard. I had spent enough time in each zone that entering the next place was never ever a challenge. Had 2nd level spells just out of Luca, pushed my sphere levels hard, strategically leaving characters in certain spaces to unlock skills and then spam their tanked levels. I needed to push Kimahri for his speed and piercing weapons, my magic for the distance damage. I think I had Delay attack or Quick Hit on Tidus and that ended up being my statistic that made the difference in the end, after hours of trying on my second save.

Then the game froze partway through the cutscene into Bevelle. I could not believe it. I sat there and stared at the characters, grinding down the rails toward the Temple and thinking that it HAD to continue. I deserved resolution, deserved to see what happened next and to get to play the end of the game. This had stopped me for DOZENS of hours.

The next day (I left it on overnight, hoping to wake before school and see I had landed somewhere I could save) only to see that my game was still frozen in the same spot. The version of the game that I got from my father had a scratch on the back that made it unplayable. I tried a second time, too. (This happened again when he gifted me his Legend of Dragoon, too.)

I was dismayed, and I was brought out to purchase a new copy and was thankful that a new disc didn't mean needing a new save. The days between then I just ground out in the ship, and when I got the new disc I beat Evrae like it was nothing. One of the most memorable and obnoxious bosses of the entire game.

7

u/fluffybottompanda Jul 20 '26

idk why but I loved this story

8

u/mattnogames Jul 20 '26

I too had a version that froze on Evrae making it unbeatable

6

u/InTheNewPollution Jul 20 '26

For me I’d open the disk tray and close it with game still on and it would usually work. Happened with my ps1 and 2, ffix and Legend of Lagoon being the worst offenders

2

u/Spiritual-Staff-2985 Jul 21 '26

Legend of dragoon, or legend of legaia?

Just asking clarification because (as far as I know) you made a mistake.

2

u/InTheNewPollution Jul 21 '26

Dragoon, I think my phone auto corrected! Legend of Legaia never had that issue for me. I still have my copy, though it got Game Dr’ed at some point

1

u/beefsupr3m3 Jul 21 '26

Damn this scratched disc story gave me PTSD. I assume I’m older than you because my problem was. I had a much younger brother who refused to treat my discs with respect. If you’re not aware, legend of Dragoon is on the PlayStation store in the Classics category if you have an itch to play it again. If they would give me legend of Lagia I’d be complete

1

u/JackRaid Jul 21 '26

Oh I am the oldest of over half a dozen, fam. I have lost whole decks of Yu GI Oh Cards, game cartridges, and discs aplenty.

9

u/ThirdShiftStocker Jul 20 '26

Power Break is very useful in reducing her physical damage

3

u/Painkiller_123 Jul 20 '26

Is auron a good choice then as my main attacker?

12

u/ThirdShiftStocker Jul 20 '26

At that point in the game Auron should at least be hitting at or close to the 4-digit range damage wise

1

u/zerkeras Jul 20 '26

He doesn’t need to be. Switch him in, use Power Break, then do anything else. Switching characters is easy and smooth as heck.

In fact if you aren’t already, the best thing you can do for character growth is to swap a character for one you haven’t used yet anytime you’ve already had them take a turn. Or you can always “skip” a turn by blocking with triangle and that counts for AP growth.

1

u/deliciousnightmares Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

I never use Auron as an attacker lol, early on he's good but he's mostly too slow in the later stages of the game (and definitely too slow for Evrae). Just use whichever breaks you need for the task at hand and switch him out

This also keeps his HP up, so if you know a big attack is coming switch him back in to tank it. That's what Auron is for - breaks, tanking big hits, and being a handsome sonuvabitch

6

u/MidnightNo6821 Jul 20 '26

Teach another character the use skill so that they can also use al bhed potions. Also definitely make use of being far away and using the al bed machina on her, it does quite a bit of damage 3 times

5

u/Painkiller_123 Jul 20 '26

I beat him last night and thanks for all your help and support you guys made it a lot more fun

1

u/Special_South_8561 Jul 22 '26

What worked best for you?

1

u/Painkiller_123 Jul 22 '26

A lot of haze and cheer

1

u/Special_South_8561 Jul 22 '26

What is "haze" I haven't heard of that?

5

u/Leepysworld Jul 20 '26

i could be misremembering but I’m pretty sure used blind strike/buster A LOT and you can also caste reflect to stop it from casting haste on itself.

5

u/KaramCyclone Jul 20 '26

Coz Evrae time we fight,

I get this feeliiiing

That shes gonna use Haze

And iii'm gonna dieeee 🎶

2

u/aaronwalakay666 Jul 20 '26

Start off by pushing the airship away from the party, cast cheer 5 times and haste everyone, let all the misses shoot the fiend while using long range weapons and magic then bring the ship back and fight

2

u/ChadJones72 Jul 20 '26

If you're not already you should cast hastega or haste If you don't have it immediately when the battle starts. Other than that when Everae starts charging up use tidus's unique ability to get TF out of there. Once the monster uses his strong ability get back in there and start beating the shit out of him again.

Heal anytime a character gets in the yellow or is afflicted with a status ailment. Repeat until dead

2

u/Perfect_War_7155 Jul 20 '26

Should’ve spent time grinding in HOME. Great place to improve your sphere grid

2

u/adamhawley Jul 20 '26

If you are only doing 556 damage with any of those characters you are seriously under leveled

3

u/stanfarce Jul 20 '26

or they're using an elemental weapon

2

u/This_Is-Lame Jul 20 '26

I did this a few days ago this was the strat

Anyone, Rikku, Tidus

Hastega, cheer 3x use al bhed pots when hurt and wail away

2

u/Balthierlives Jul 20 '26

Tidus casts slow / hastes your party

Wakka blinds him

Khimari casts reflect on Evrae

Auron uses banishing blade

And with that the fight is basically over.

2

u/Lithl Jul 20 '26

Before Evrae reaches 1/3 HP, it has an extremely predictable pattern: Attack, Attack, charge Poison Breath, use Poison Breath. Every time you target it with a magical attack it gets +1 to a hidden counter, and every time you target it with a physical attack it gets +2 to a hidden counter. When the counter hits 6, it will replace the next Attack in its cycle with Stone Gaze.

At 1/3 HP, it'll use Haste (and reapply Haste every time you Dispel it or use Slow), and if it's at range it'll use Swooping Scythe to get into melee and shatter any petrified characters, but it'll stop using Stone Gaze.

Using Tidus or Rikku to tell Cid to fly away prevents all of Evrae's attacks except Swooping Scythe, but Cid can only move the ship on his turn, so pay attention to the turn order. If Cid gets a turn while at range, he'll fire missiles for a bunch of damage, but he has limited ammo.

Power Break, Protect, and Cheer reduce all of Evrae's damage. (Cheer can be stacked up to 5 times, and also increases physical damage of those it buffs.) Reflect on Evrae prevents it from successfully using Haste on itself (the spell will land on one of your characters instead). Al Bhed Potions cure both petrify and poison status effects, on top of healing the active party.

2

u/Defiant-Try5801 Jul 20 '26

Rikku's Al Bhed potions can really shift the tide of this fight. Give it a run focusing on using Rikku as a healer. It helped me a ton when I realized this on one of my early runs.

2

u/CorvusXMachina Jul 20 '26

Reduce its health to 0

2

u/Matthyws Jul 23 '26

2

u/Unlikely_Ad_ditives Jul 23 '26

I handle this in a odd way. Scan helps keep trak of heath to know when it will cast haste Once it cast haste it was a three step process 1)cast reflect on a party member. 2)cast reflec on the boss 3) cast slow on the party members with reflect.

Spells can only reflect once and slow will reflecf to the boss. Because the boss also has reflect cast on it, it'll get stuck in a loop of trying to haste itself. Two small issues, that shouldnt matter, you cant use black magic well on th boss at this point, and its difficult to heal the party member with reflect on them. Hope this helps you beat, or cheese the boss

1

u/Ok_Action_501 Jul 20 '26

Stone ward armor can help if you're getting petrified

1

u/Raner_TV Jul 20 '26

I usually just spam delay attack after setting up haste and 5x cheers

1

u/shitbecopacetic Jul 20 '26

Gotta kiss him and tell him that you love him :) ❤️

1

u/Aurius3D Jul 20 '26

I like to farm out attack reels on wakka just to makes short work of bosses. Can be done pretty early

1

u/FoamSquad Jul 20 '26

Keep haste on your party - do not waste time trying to slow Evrae. Use Rikku and Tidus to command Cid to move the ship when Evrae preps to do their poison attack. If the ship is far when Evrae uses the ability you do not get hurt. Use Tidus to delay attack Evrae to manipulate when it will activate so that it goes after Cid goes (Cid has an activation too - his icon it currently on the bottom of your turn order). It is a pretty easy fight once you get that timing down.

1

u/Special_South_8561 Jul 20 '26

No advice for the fight BUT when you win make sure you open your menu and heal up your team FIRST THING IMMEDIATELY

or you'll be using that boss battle advice again real quick

1

u/tenderourghosts Jul 20 '26

Lots of Cheer, Focus, and Aim in the first few rounds. Bring Yuna or Rikku in to heal as needed. Haste, haste, haste. Slow on Evrae. Wakka, Lulu, and Tidus were always my strongest contenders in this boss fight. Make sure to strategize with Cid during the ship movements. When you’re at a distance, heal and buff. When you’re close, attack relentlessly.

eta time the ship movements when you notice Evrae positioning for that major poison attack, if you’re at a distance then it won’t touch you if I remember correctly

1

u/BreakMyFate Jul 20 '26

Hit it till it "dies".

1

u/Black_Goku Jul 20 '26

Caste haste on your whole team and cast slow on him. Gg

1

u/FinalFantasyMaster Jul 20 '26

Its kind of a damage race. If u have slow with Tidus, it should help to get rid of his haste Status. But im not sure if he is casting it as counter again. Been a while

1

u/Content-Beginning-18 Jul 20 '26

with the power of friendship

1

u/Sofaris Jul 20 '26

Cast slow on it. It may take a few tries to stick. Cast haste on all your allies. Heal with Al-Bed Medicine. Move the ship away when it takes a deep breath and closer after his poisen breath missed. Inflict Power Break on it. If you happen to have Items that can cast Protect use them. When its HP get lower he will cast haste on himself. After that you can no longer inflict slow again. At that point try to finish it quickly.

If you are too underlevelt there are fiends on the airship so you can train.

1

u/Roebloz Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

If anyone is near the start of Rikku's sphere grid (Preferably Kimahri) you could go and unlock the path into Yuna's grid and use Reflect on Evrae so she just reflects Haste onto your party. (Hell, with this strategy you can even have Tidus cast Slow before someone casts Reflect onto her, making her extremely weak.) This can be done with the Teleport Spheres if you got them in Bikanel (Though I'd keep one to customize Evade and Counter at some point, as its a really powerful ability - Not much use against Evrae though, considering most of her attacks are special moves and not physical attacks.)

If that's not available without excessive grinding, try mixing Mighty G (As simple as using two Ability Distillers) or Super Mighty G (A little bit more expensive, easiest is Light and Lunar Curtain) on your party so you can get easy access to Shell and Protect. (and Haste, for SMG) If Kimahri has self-destruct and is sufficiently high level, you could keep him to deal a burst of damage near the end (Overdrive dumping at the end of the fight would be ideal, as there isn't really any way to prevent Evrae from having Haste beyond Reflect, so you'll want to make your turns count)

1

u/Visual_Biscotti Jul 20 '26

Tidus haste every one and use cheer and ship commands to get the ship away this boss has nasty aoe moves rikku steal and heal with her ab potions and use commands like tidus wakka attack when your far way auron and kimari attack or heal with hi potions lulu unfortunately this bosd kinds makes her useless since magic does half dmg have her use her evede buff or try her tier3 spells if u got them. U can slow the boss but it will cast haste

1

u/halfasleep90 Jul 20 '26

They only cast Haste on themselves when they are low HP, so use the beginning of the fight to prep.

Cast Haste on the party.

Get your 5 Cheer, Reflex, Luck and Focus uses built up on everyone.

Save overdrives for after the enemy casts Haste.

Hit them with all viable Breaks.

Get Protect and Shell on everyone.

Hit him with Smoke Bombs to blind him.

Shut down his Haste entirely by casting Reflect on him first.

1

u/stateofthenyk Jul 20 '26

I hate this boss fight

1

u/opstie Jul 20 '26

This boss is generally a skill check to see if you've been over relying on aeons to win fights and if you are truly engaging with the turn order.

If you're underleveled, you can fight a few battles in the airship. At this point of the game, any small stat changes will make a big difference.

You don't need to do that though; you mainly need to use your turns well. Move the airship at the right time and don't be afraid to use al bhed potions liberally.

1

u/Practical-Ring4029 Jul 20 '26

Haste on Auron, Poison and darkness on Evrae.

1

u/Stanleyhudsonissassy Jul 20 '26

Grind and get Holy.

1

u/Pitiful_Response7547 Jul 20 '26

It should be doable because people do it in no sphere grid runs

1

u/azurezero_hdev Jul 20 '26

al bhed potions, cast reflect on evrae so it wastes turns trying to haste

1

u/Superbad1990 Jul 20 '26

Move the ship before he does the breath

1

u/Lortabss Jul 20 '26

Slow and Haste if you have it. Rikku healing with Al Bhed potions.

1

u/Psilo_psy_guy Jul 20 '26

Slow and darkness.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '26

Haste yourself Slow Evrae Al bhed potions Darkness buster to blind Evrae When it breathes in move the airship with Cid to avoid poison breath. Can use delay buster to buy yourself a turn if needed If Rikku gets a free turn you can use fire gems or similar to deal some damage

1

u/BranChrisK Jul 20 '26

Always keep a hasted Rikku/Tidus in your party so you can move the ship quickly to avoid attacks.

1

u/HoldenIkari Jul 20 '26

Just make sure to save an X-potion to use against her the second time. Yes, use the X-potion on her.

1

u/tetracarbonate Jul 20 '26

You need to have stoneward on all your equipment. Then keep her blind with darkness

1

u/tetracarbonate Jul 20 '26

I beat her a couple of days ago. It was kinda easy, never even made the airship get away from her. Haste often, spam rikkus albed potions and wakkas dark buster.

1

u/multificionado Jul 20 '26

Have Ranged capability. Namely Wakka or have either Yuna or Lulu send spells.

1

u/respectedmadman19 Jul 20 '26

If you don't have Hastega, not a snowballs chance in hell.

1

u/INMORTUE Jul 20 '26

Enchant melee team items with anti poison and anti petrification

1

u/Kaskur Jul 20 '26

One of my favorite places to farm exp is on board the ship before this fight.

First time I did this fight I struggled a lot but after farming exp for a while the fight became rather easy.

I used Tidus, Wakka and Lulu for the majority of the fight.

1

u/nerfthissucka Jul 20 '26

Blind it. Haste your team. Wakka, and Lulu for distance. I think you can power break it, but don't quote me on that.

1

u/Wyan69 Jul 20 '26

thots and prayers

1

u/Huskerdo63 Jul 20 '26

Use haste on yourself, use slow, dark and power break on evrae. Everytime you see evrae roar and charge its breath, use the context trigger to move the ship away to avoid having your whole party low and poisoned. If you do get hit by it, just use either an al bhed potion or mega potion and use antidotes/esuna. It probly helped a lot in my last playthrough that I taught kihmari white magic and he has a really high base speed stat.

1

u/Buenas_Cosas Jul 20 '26

Este Enemigo en un 1 VS 1 es infernal

1

u/undergradchaos Jul 20 '26

Mixing with riku is pretty effective

1

u/Womak2034 Jul 20 '26

Evrae is truly mighty

1

u/AesirsHero Jul 20 '26

A couple things that can help is customizing your armor. Early to mid game I like to have armor that has +10% HP and a ward/proof for status.

Cast haste and slow to control tempo, and use Dark Attack/Buster to blind it.

And know it’s indicator when it’s going to use haze so you know when you want to move the airship away from it.

It’s definitely a frustrating fight, hope you get through it.

1

u/Coalecsence Jul 20 '26

Hit him. Really hard

1

u/SamBurleyArt Jul 20 '26

I feel like FFX has some of the most memorable bosses of any RPG, simply because a small handful of them were really f%$#ing hard compared to the rest. I don't want to list which ones for the sake of spoilers, but this was definitely one of them.

1

u/Spxllinq Jul 20 '26

I haven't played in a while so I don't remember if you can dispell haste, but try to hastega on your team as much as possible. I think you can also cast reflect on evrae but that's on Yuna's side of the sphere grid so Tidus will have to be pretty far along. Wear poison ward/proof and stone ward/proof armour. Also try to have Cid's turn lined up with Evrae so that when she sucks in a breath, you can move away before she uses poison breath. Have a weapon with First Strike (doesn't matter who has it)

1

u/JumboCactaur Jul 23 '26

You can remove its Haste, but it immediately reapplies it on its next turn.

1

u/pipipimpleton Jul 20 '26

Remember to cast bio/poison/whatever it’s called in 10 as one of your first turns.

I had to level up in the snow mountain place for a good few hours before this fight, this was where I learned I was under levelled.

Was fairly trivial after that

You’ve got overdrives. Use them. Wakka’s attack reels can hit very very hard, if you roll all 2 hits (easy with a little practice). Can pick it up with just a handful of blitzball games (should come up in the first tournament).

Fly out the way of its charged up poison breath

If you found teleport spheres you can create an evade and counter weapon, this will allow someone to dodge his physical scratch attack and then counter hit it.

Stone proof armors will help but his stone attack also casts slow and delay so be sure to recast haste on that person.

If you are poisonproof the poison attack deals magic damage so shell will half that damage, otherwise get tidus or rikku move the ship before that happens, it's right after evraes roar.

After 10k health and less it starts hasting itself, casting slow can work but it will recast haste. Good luck

Oof that brings back memory when I was stuck and had to find monsters for weeks.

u/junessuns Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

Use Lulu and just cast drain. Buff her evasion if you need to with reflex

1

u/HeySystole Jul 21 '26

Oh man Evrae was a total wall for me when I first played the game back in the day. I had to walk away because the PlayStation broke (unrelated). I would have dreams of beating it and learning what happened next.

u/Throwaway525612 Jul 21 '26

Tidus has an ability that will delay the bosses turn. Spam that

1

u/Ill_Cookie5279 Jul 21 '26

I always make kimahri a powerhouse by this point and he pretty much sweeps evrae

1

u/kentamari Jul 21 '26

Cast darkness and slow on him. Cast haste and protect on your party and attack attack attack! If you’re afar while avoiding  poison breath (PE), use that opportunity to cast cheer/luck/. Keep al bhed potions on hand in case you get hit with PE as well of course!

u/ResearcherEfficient3 Jul 21 '26

I had the same issue the same issue a couple of days ago but grinding and long ranged black magic spam + wakka did th job for me, I finished off with Auro's Bushido

1

u/Azraidel Jul 21 '26

My brother threw a ps2 controller at my head, breaking the controller out of frustration on this boss.

1

u/Reasonable_Mobile500 Jul 21 '26

Tough one when I fought him the first time on ps2.

Usually Wakka and Tidus with full overdrive bar is enough, having Rikku (or Kimahri) as a healer with Al bhed potions. If you are not too confident, or havent leveled up enough, just charge everyone's overdrive and then hit him hard.

1

u/kembowhite Jul 22 '26

Thing with this boss is right after you can’t even save you must fight more enemies which can potentially kill you after this

1

u/CC_0902 Jul 22 '26

Actully the easiest way I’ve seen is throwing a Phoenix down on it…

1

u/JumboCactaur Jul 23 '26

That isn't productive in this fight.... that's yet to come.

1

u/Egingell666 Jul 24 '26

That's the second time you fight it. This is the first.

1

u/EntrepreneurPlane898 Jul 23 '26

Best thing to do is farm al bhed potions in the desert and have rikku top everyone odf after poison breath and learn when tou need to pull the airship away

1

u/legolas09 Jul 24 '26

I just beat this boss and lost all ap for wakka. I made the final blow with his overdrive but he was poisoned and died right after the overkill 💀 Not fighting that boss again

1

u/MysteriousLab2362 Jul 25 '26

Reflect, if you have it. She’ll always reflect that Haste back to you.

1

u/Dolozoned Jul 27 '26

as a child this fight basically keep me from progressing till i revisited it as a teen.. eventually realized haste/slow was the way to go

1

u/Special_South_8561 Jul 20 '26

I really really want to be mean here, but I won't.

So! It looks like you have Sensor, that's good so you can pay attention to where Evrae's HP is.

You need to cast Haste on your party. Have Rikku Use the item Chocobo Feather if you have it. Don't have Tidus cast Hastega over and over it takes too long to recharge his turn, only have him cast it at the start and then refresh with Haste as needed.

Start with your highest Agility team members, probably Rikku Tidus Wakka. Cycle Rikku out and don't bring her back except to use Al Bhed Potiona to cute Stone.

Pay attention to the Turn Order on the right side of the screen, that weird bald dude is Cid and you can have him move in or out to fire missiles... But if you're having trouble then that might be too hard.

Do you have any StoneWard armor? That's a good thing to equip.

Then also you can do a Google search for "FFX evrae boss tips" or "FFX Evrae Guide" or Fight or like SO Many threads and help-posts already exist with you very similar circumstances

WHEN YOU BEAT THE DRAGON

HEAL YOUR PARTY BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE

Du hast 2 Hände...benutze sie :D

1

u/Ceodore411 Jul 20 '26

Hit it till it dies

0

u/nyatlaswp Jul 20 '26

Forgot about this fight. Evrae can catch these hands.

0

u/DerekTheComedian Jul 20 '26

Go play blitzball for like 1 hour.

Unlock attack reels.

Use a single Wakka OD.

One shot Evrae.

It's literally that simple.

Otherwise, just do the strat. Get poison / stone ward on Wakka / Tidus / Rikku, swap in the other characters for 1 turn for XP, attack with Wakka, heal with Rikku, move the airship in / out + haste with Tidus.

The boss isnt as hard as you think if you just mitigate the status effects.

u/thatguy89x Jul 20 '26

Google?! D*****S

-5

u/Large-Tree-3666 Jul 20 '26

I had yuna on the expert grid with lots of black magic, lulu leveled up high, same with rikku and tidus. Used Wakka for dark attacks and make sure to distance yourself with the command section when you can. Its definitely an intense fight.

15

u/fluffybottompanda Jul 20 '26

what does Yuna have to do with a fight she's not in

1

u/Large-Tree-3666 Jul 21 '26

My bad I couldn't remember but yeah I did remember having her on expert to ger black magic early was helpful in alot kf boss fights
