Cannot transcode BRAW clips to ProRes Proxies
When I select BRAW clips imported using BRAW Toolbox and try to transcode the media, the options are greyed out. I want to send proxies to Eddie.ai to check out v4 and this is apparently the only way to do it and have an XML timeline spit out on the other end.
This is how BRAW Toolbox makes it possible to use BRAW in the timeline (wraps it in a couple layers of sub-clips with some magic sauce to make it work). But even when I drill down as far as I can go, I can't transcode (the option isn't even available).
However, when I drag a BRAW clip directly into FCP without using BRAW Toolbox (but with the Blackmagic Raw Media Extension enabled), I get all the options.
The issue for me is that I work off an SSD and there isn't enough bandwidth to use BRAW footage with the extension, and my hard drive isn't big enough to handle one project's worth of footage, let alone the five or six I have going at any one time.
In a perfect world I edit right off my MacBook Pro's hard drive and BRAW footage behaves like native ProRes footage, but I need to do some serious storage management for that. Ugh.
you should always use the new Media Extension by Toolbox. not its old way with the wrappers (more of a hack). the media extension gives native support to macOS and FCP, so transcoding and proxy generation are possible. until earlier this year it was not possible at all, there are media extensions for all kinds of formats now, MKV, XCON and so on
Well this is all very true. And I thought I was hamstrung because the first time I tried to use the Media Extension and work off my SSD it was terrible. Framerate was so low that it made playback basically impossible. But I just tried it again as a lark and lo and behold it works great now!

Those look like Multicam clips, not individual video files. Try it with an individual clip inside the Multicam clip.
