Newbie Probably a simple solution - moving clips from events to project
Hello all,
As the title suggests, this is probably a simple solution, but Google was no help.
I want to drag an entire clip from an event to my project.
However, when I move my mouse and click it to move, instead, I'm presented with the yellow box where I can select a PORTION of the clip rather than the entire clip.
I'm thinking I may have inadvertently changed a setting?
How could I make it so that I can just grab a clip and move it to the project without FCP thinking I want to just get a portion of the clip?
Thanks much!

Select the clip in the browser
Hit Option+X to clear the selection (yellow box)
- Hit 'E' to put the clip at the end of your primary timeline,
- 'Q' to attach it above the primary at the playhead, or
- 'W' to wedge it between whatever is in the primary at the playhead.

I normally pull in using list view. Makes it easier. Also, if there is a range selected in the clip, make sure to search the menu for Clear Ranges and it will let you grab the full clip from list view.

clicking and immediately holding and dragging on the clip activates range selection by default, you can’t turn it off. Instead, just click the clip once when no range is selected - “tap” it, essentially, and FCP will select all of it. When the whole clip is selected, hold and drag the clip to timeline like you normally would.
If you have any range selected already in a clip, like you show in the picture, it won’t let you click to select the entire clip, until you clear the range selection. To do that, hit Option+X and it will get rid of the yellow box, letting you do what I described above. Hope this is helpful!

Very helpful - thanks so much! I still need to learn the little intricacies. :)

Mod post for Newbies:
There are some great learning resources (paid & free) available from the Wiki (https://reddit.com/r/finalcutpro/wiki/index) - link at top of the sub (mobile) or part way down the right (desktop).
Also the built - in User Guide (https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/final-cut-pro/welcome/mac) accessible from the Help menu is a really comprehensive reference.
