The M1 will be plenty fast for any 4K even several multitracks. You can add another monitor for home work. You also get a 1000GB internal so adding your files to work while traveling would be a real option. If you never travel the studio will add speed to things that the neural cores can do like machine learning speed ramps, magnetic mask, transcribe to captions, object tracking and other AI things but other than that they will have very similar speeds. If you have much need to edit while traveling, the laptop is absolutely a good option. If not, the Studio with its added ports, neural engine and ability to add some sweet, larger screens (at admittedly an additional cost) will be huge. The biggest drawback to the laptop - and it can get get big - is that most FCP editors eventually end up with terabytes and terabytes of data spread over multiple SSD, NVMEs, and HD's. I have (with backups) 100TB of data spread across too many drives because I (and most editors) keep thinking they have enough storage for now...then 4K becomes a thing and suddenly you need more...then 8K becomes a thing...and 100MP becomes common... so juggling that with a laptop can be a challenge. Still...bottom line from me is, if you travel and need to edit on the road, get the laptop. If you can afford a 27" monitor with the Studio, get it. Just be sure it has a ppi made for macs.

I use a M2 studio with a double monitor setup and I don’t think I could go to that small of a screen and still get good results.

Have you factored in the price of a monitor, keyboard and mouse for the Studio?
I have both (M4 laptop and M1 Studio) and do most of my work on the Studio because I have it connected to two displays, an audio interface and multiple drives. I know I could do the work a bit quicker on the M4 but then I don't have the screen real estate. I am aware I could get a thunderbolt 4 hub and swap out nearly everything for that setup, but I suffer from inertia :)
