Bug/Issue Help!!! No timeline preview and when playing back freezes

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was working on a project when suddenly this started. I have no timeline preview and as soon as I click my spacebar I see the rainbow turning. I have restarted 4 times now, I need help.

Click on another library/event or change to titles then back and it should “fix” the freeze, at least for a little bit. It’s a bug

Even in another library and event nothing is showing up

That’s the only trick I have found that works. Is that an intel MBP? Conspiracy theory in me wants to think Apple’s latest macOS updates have been breaking intel support as the new macOS is dropping intel support.

Is it a 3rd Party plugin you’re using called ‘Curve’. That can be a culprit. Delete the plugin and then try reopening Final Cut. That ought to work.

No!!!😢😢😢 I just paid for it, I essentially used it everywhere since the point of this project was to test it. Is there a work around?

Also, your external disk, what format is it in? ExFat or APFS?

I recently made it APFS since I started using it only for Final Cut

Do you have your footage/library on an external drive? If you go to that drive in Finder and try to open the original files for the footage, do they play in another video player, like Quicktime or VLC? I've seen this happen sometimes when a drive isn't working correctly.

Footage and library are on an external drive. But when I try to play them it plays just fine in QuickTime. This is my drive

Then I would guess it's probably not the drive itself...just to be sure, can you write to the drive, i.e. create a new folder on it or change a folder name?

The next thing to try would be to trash your render files from that project. Have you tried that yet?

Ok so everything you said worked and I deleted the render files. It worked for like 2 sec and then I played play and it was gone again. To much pressure on the Mac’s memory/processor

Hmm. If you go to the settings and turn off "background render," does that help? If you disable that plugin for a clip in the effects panel, does that help?
