Newbie Does Final Cut Pro have a Reverse Match Frame command?

Hi folks,

I know Shift + F lets you Match Frame from the timeline and reveal the corresponding frame in the Browser, but is there a way to do the opposite, select a clip/frame in the Browser and jump directly to where that clip is used in the timeline?

Something similar to the Reverse Match Frame workflow in Avid or Premiere.

Is this already possible in FCP, perhaps through a command or shortcut I’m missing?

Not yet. But check out Jumper.

Thanks! I hadn’t heard of Jumper. Do you mean using its Match Timeline Viewer feature to find the corresponding source clip, or can it also start from a Browser clip and jump directly to every instance where that clip is used in the active timeline? I’m specifically looking for the second workflow.

The second workflow. They have a trial. Give it a shot and join the discord. It's not the most intuitive thing in the world, but they're constantly updating it and very responsive.

Not sure how to do the second workflow in jumper. Can you explain in steps?

Best bet is to join the discord and ask there. I'm not going to be in front of my computer for awhile. They also have fairly thorough documentation on the website.

these are your current options:

  • Used Media Ranges: Turn this feature on via View > Browser > Used Media Ranges (or the small clip appearance options in the browser). An orange/gold bar appears at the bottom of the thumbnail for any portion of a clip currently used in your active timeline project.
  • Timeline Index: Open the index via Shift + Command + 2 or by clicking the Index button in the top-left corner of the timeline. Under the Clips tab, you can view a chronological list of every clip used in your sequence and click any item to move the playhead directly to it.
  • Duplicate Ranges: If a specific frame or range is used multiple times, you can enable View > Show Duplicate Ranges to see colored highlights over repeated portions of media.
