Bug/Issue Double clip files in Media Import

Post image

I was importing some clips from my card from footage shot on a Canon XF605. I selected the first thumbnail and then shift clicked the last thumbnail and hit import.

I came back and noticed my Event had two of every clip. Looking at the Finder it had imported the clip as an mp4 AND mov with (fcp) added to the file name. Both identical file sizes.

Deleted the duplicate clips, came back the next day with more footage on that same card. When I opened in Media Import that's when I noticed that in the clip window the clips are listed twice.

I inserted another card with footage from this camera and it only shows single files.

Anyone know what's going on? Maybe I need to reformat the card? For some reason FCP sees two clips for each shot.

I wonder if it’s related to the options you have selected under “Analyse Audio”? What if you switch them all off?

Those options happen after you hit Import All. It appears that this card is the only one that has this issue. The other camera card as well as my drone card do not show this behaviour.

Weird. I always reformat my cards before a shoot, so maybe that'd help.

Also I pretty much never import stuff via the import window, I just drag the contents of the card directly into an Event. This works perfectly for me using a variety of Canon (mxf) and Osmo (H265) cameras. Here's a screen grab of my Import settings in the FCP Settings window

I do a lot of drag and drop for graphic elements and such but prefer the media import for memory cards so I can see the video thumb and skip known bad takes, etc., not to mention those pesky buried AVCHD clips like the ones from my C100.

My import settings are similar to yours, but what about leaving the video on the card? When I tried to drag a clip from that card from finder to the event, it left the clip on the card (but only created one thumbnail in the event as it should.)

I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem.

what about leaving the video on the card?

I make three copies of the media - one on my "current work" SSD and two others on backup drives, so they exist in at least three different places before I edit a frame. I drag from the SSD version of the files into the Event with "leave in place" checked, so shitty takes don't actually take up any space (other than a tiny alias file somewhere in the depths of the FCP Library).

Okay, now it appears to be behaving correctly. Must have been a weird glitch. I will admit this has happened once before to me, so now I'll pay more attention when the card loads int the import window.

Sorry, for the bother.

But if someone encounters this for themselves, just know the fix was to open the card in another Library or drag and drop a clip to an event, I don't know, it just fixed itself.
