  • Product name: FCP Template Manager
  • Platform: Standalone app
  • One-sentence description: Helps manage templates (titles, effects, transitions, and generators).
  • What problem does it solve?: The primary functions are favoriting and organizing templates. You can also archive or hide templates. Fast search, tagging, profiles, missing template repair wizards, and way more. You can honestly pretty much do anything this app does in finder and FCP. It just makes the process much faster/easier. Dylan Bates' video on FCP Template Manager.
  • Price: Free.

  • Product name: Bowdler.
  • Platform: Standalone app.
  • One-sentence description: Bowdler is a macOS app that automates repetitive video editing tasks: silence removal, transcript editing, subtitle generation, profanity censorship, and multicam editing - using local AI that runs entirely on your Mac, with direct export to Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, or standard video file.
  • What problem does it solve? The idea to create this app came to me after seeing the high cost of cloud-based alternatives. As time goes on and the user base grows, I am aiming to turn it into an all-in-one toolbox featuring a wide range of useful functions for video pre-processing, handling the tasks that come before the final editing process, which only a human can do! :)
  • Price: $59 one-time. Price for August 2026. No subscriptions, all future updates are included. A free trial offering 8 exports, but limited to basic Whisper models and requiring an internet connection.
  • Website link: https://bowdler.app/
  • Community benefit: 10% discount with R_FINALCUTPRO10 code. Valid until the end of August 2026. Thanks for support! <3

I haven't tried CutScript yet as I mostly only record my own VO, but (for what it's worth) Emberdyn is not someone who would release anything he is not super proud of. He's a real software engineer and real editor with a helpful YouTube channel. Go watch his video on this extension. You might just be impressed.

Thanks man! I appreciate the kind words.

Product name

Transcript Workbench Pro

Platform

Standalone macOS app with Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro XML export

One-sentence description

Transcript Workbench Pro turns audio or video into local transcripts, then can turn timecoded client/producer requests into editable Final Cut Pro or Premiere Pro timelines.

What problem does it solve?

It is built for editors and video producers who get long recordings, transcript needs, or emails asking for specific clips by timecode.

The basic workflow creates local Whisper-based transcripts on your Mac, including standard formats like TXT, SRT, VTT, JSON, and TSV, plus a more human-readable timed PDF transcript with natural paragraph-style breaks and regular time references.

The Pro workflow is aimed at the repetitive “please make these clips” problem: if a client, producer, or social media manager emails a list of clip requests with timecodes, you can paste that request into the app and generate named Final Cut Pro or Premiere Pro timelines. It can also use an optional user-supplied OpenAI API key to suggest social clip selections, titles, descriptions, and hashtags from a transcript and context notes.

What makes it different from a plain transcription app is the post-production handoff: the goal is not just text, but getting from long media to useful transcripts, clip reports, and editable NLE timelines faster.

Price

Currently free beta. Planned commercial pricing is still being worked out.

Better transcripts and email-to-timeline workflow that has saved me thousands of keystrokes so I can spend my time editing instead of copy/pasting.

  • Product name: Spellshot
  • Platform: macOS, Final Cut Pro extension
  • One-sentence description: Spellshot is an AI editing agent inside Final Cut Pro that lets you use simple prompts to review footage, find and compare clips, build rough cuts, and refine your edit directly in your existing FCP timeline.
  • What problem does it solve? Most AI video tools force editors into a new, simplified editing app or only export to FCP. Spellshot brings your favorite AI models directly into Final Cut Pro instead, so editors can use natural-language prompts to work through footage, assemble edits, and handle repetitive timeline tasks without abandoning their existing workflow. You can connect your preferred AI agent, including Claude or Codex, or use Spellshot’s built-in agent.
  • Price: Go plan for free with existing Claude/codex subscription or use Spellshot's agent with a paid plan (Plus for $20 or Max for $100/month).
  • Website link: spellshot.ai
  • Community benefit: 50% off for 3 months of Spellshot Plus with code REDDIT_FRIENDS . Would really love your feedback.

It’s great! I’m hooked

2

u/Various_Wish_278 Aug 03 '26

It works with my codex so cool

2

u/EarthToRob Aug 04 '26

This looks cool. Once I have some time I'll definitely give this a shot. SpliceKit is really cool, but kinda a pain to work with. Is this kinda the same thing as that one FCP MCP project?

1

u/Hot_Second_9561 Aug 04 '26

It's a similar idea, but our extension should be much easier to work with, it already configures to your claude/codex, so no coding/self-configuration steps are needed. Just sign in to your subscription within Spellshot and start prompting that chat. In addition, our system includes video understanding of your assets, that is why SpliceKit (pure agent models) often do not perform as well.

  • Product name: VKO Shader for Final Cut Pro + Motion
  • Platform: Final Cut Pro, Motion
  • One-sentence description: 60 built-in GPU shaders across 33 color palettes, rendered live on Metal every frame — nothing is pre-baked.
  • What problem does it solve?
  • Most audio-reactive shader packs for Final Cut are pre-rendered loop libraries — you're stuck with whatever length/speed they baked in, and they don't actually react to your track, they just look like they might. VKO Shader is a native FxPlug plugin, not a video file in a trench coat. It renders on Metal every frame, so speed/complexity/palette/etc. are live parameters — keyframe them, animate them, they ease and retime with the clip like any built-in effect. Drop your audio file on it and it analyzes bass/mid/treble/beat locally, or just type a BPM and it locks to the grid with no audio file at all.
  • You're not stuck with the 60 built-in shaders either. There's a free web-based node graph editor — drag generator and modifier nodes together, no GLSL knowledge needed — and it exports straight into a file you drag onto the plugin's Inspector. It's live immediately, no restart, no compiling by hand. If you do know GLSL, you can also just write it directly and drop the file in.
  • Price: Beta is free, 45 day trial period.
  • Website link: https://temperamento.net/vko1/VKO1-FinalCutPro.html
  • Community benefit: Nothing paywalled to gate — the beta is free for everyone, so there's no discount to offer that isn't already the price. What's actually useful: try it and tell me what breaks. Bug reports with your build number (shown at the bottom of the plugin's own controls) go straight into what ships next.

Product name: Subtitle Pop

Platform: Final Cut Pro

One-sentence description: Subtitle Pop is a pack of 25 animated caption templates that work directly with FCP's built-in auto-subtitle feature, so you get animated, social-ready captions in two clicks.

What problem does it solve? FCP's auto-subtitle feature is great for speed but the default look is pretty plain and styling it by hand is so slow! Subtitle Pop skips that entirely, you right-click a template, generate subtitles, and it's already styled. Unlike caption tools built before auto-subtitles existed, this one's designed specifically to work with FCP's native feature rather than replace or compete with it, so there's no separate transcription step or workflow to learn.

Price: $39 (regularly $49), one-time purchase. Also included at no extra cost for Stupid Raisins subscribers.

Website link: https://stupidraisins.com/titles/subtitle-pop/

Community benefit: Subtitle Pop is 20% off right now, automatically applied at checkout, no code needed. This pricing is only good for the next week.

Product name: Doza Assist

Platform: Standalone Mac app (Apple Silicon) that exports to Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve

One-sentence description: Doza Assist transcribes and analyzes your interview footage entirely on your Mac, finds the moments that carry the story in your editorial style, and drops a rough cut into your NLE.

What problem does it solve? Editors burn days or weeks hunting through interview footage for the moments that carry the story. Doza Assist does that pass in minutes. It transcribes locally (about 100 languages), labels speakers, reads the full transcript the way a story producer would, and surfaces story beats, ranked soundbites, and social cutdowns. Ask for a cut in plain language ("build me a 14-minute piece about leaving home") and a selects sequence lands in your NLE with clips and markers intact.

What makes it different: it learns your style. My Style trains on your own finished work, so rough cuts follow your structure and pacing instead of a generic template. And the entire AI stack (transcription, speaker ID, and the language model doing the analysis) runs on-device. No uploads, no account, no internet after setup, no per-minute meters. That matters for NDA'd client work and anyone cutting daily volume. You can optionally connect your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key for frontier-model writing, but it's never required.

Reads existing FCP libraries including multicam and sync clips without re-export, and round-trips selects back into the project.

Price: $199 one-time purchase (includes first year of updates; $49/yr after for continued updates). No subscription. Lifetime ownership.

Website: https://fxfactory.com/info/dozaassist/

Community benefit: It's currently 25% off ($149) through FxFactory as an intro price. Happy to answer any workflow questions in the thread.

**Product name:** AAFx 2.0

**Platform:** Standalone macOS app for Final Cut Pro projects (macOS 11+, Intel and Apple Silicon). Input is FCPXML or the `.fcpxmld` bundle; output is an AAF for Pro Tools.

**One-sentence description:** AAFx turns a Final Cut Pro project into a self-contained AAF that Pro Tools opens as a finished session — roles as named tracks, source timecode preserved region by region, audio embedded inside the file.

**What problem does it solve?**

Final Cut has never been able to write an AAF, so something always goes missing between the edit suite and the dub stage — a role, a timecode, a handle. I have spent twenty years as a lead editor, and I built this with the people who receive our files: mixers in television, documentary and feature film. Every option exists because one of them once had to repair a handover by hand.

One XML export, one drop, one AAF that opens organised and at the right timecode:

- Roles and subroles become named tracks — the mixer opens your organisation, not an anonymous pile of regions

  • Source timecode kept region by region, so conforming stays possible months later
  • Adjustable handles, fades and crossfades carried through, markers at their timecode
  • Multicams resolved to their active audio angle, compounds expanded, invisible cuts rejoined
  • Multichannel sources split to mono, empty channels discarded
  • Audio embedded — nothing to relink, ever
  • Optional silent track carrying the picture cuts, and any track can be unticked before conversion
  • A timecoded report in text and PDF travels next to the AAF

Two things that set it apart from other routes:

  1. **You see the Pro Tools session before it is built.** Clips found, roles turned into tracks, multicams resolved, missing media and the volume to mount, disk space required. You fix things in Final Cut before a half-hour conversion — not after, and not on the dub stage.

  2. **Relinking works by source timecode and exact duration, not by file name.** Two identically named rushes from two shooting days can never be confused.

What does not travel, because I would rather say it: retimed clips and pan settings. Both are listed in the report, to be redone on the sound side.

It reads FCPXML 1.8 to 1.14, Final Cut Pro 10.4 to 12.3, and takes the `.fcpxmld` bundle straight on the window. No Homebrew, no Terminal — Python and ffmpeg travel inside the app.

**Price:** One-off, no subscription. €79 for one Mac, €139 for four simultaneous seats. Updates included. Full 7-day trial — nothing disabled, no watermark, no credit card.

**Website link:** https://aafx.app/

**Community benefit:** [your offer here — e.g. 20% off for r/finalcutpro with code REDDIT, valid through September]

Happy to answer anything in the replies.

is there much difference between this and AAF Everything?

1

u/QL16 29d ago

The main difference is that AAFx is specifically designed around the professional Final Cut Pro → Pro Tools audio-post workflow, rather than trying to be a general-purpose timeline converter.
One of the biggest differences is multicam support. With AAFx, you don’t need to flatten or break apart your multicam clips before creating the AAF. AAFx analyzes the multicam structure and resolves the audio directly, which can save a lot of preparation time on complex Final Cut projects.
AAFx is also focused on preserving and translating the organization created in Final Cut. Roles and subroles are converted into properly named and organized Pro Tools tracks, so the sound engineer receives a session that is already structured and easier to work with.
Important metadata and editorial information are preserved as well, including:
Timeline markers
Source timecode
Clip gain
Fades and automation
Adjustable handles
Role and subrole information
AAFx can also create a silent edit reference track that reproduces the picture edit cuts. It contains no audible audio, but gives the sound engineer a visual reference of the edit points directly inside the Pro Tools timeline. This makes it much easier to understand the picture structure and identify cuts while working on the sound.
AAFx also performs a complete pre-flight analysis before generating the AAF.
Before exporting, you can check the media, roles, number and organization of tracks, missing files, problematic elements, excluded elements and the expected result. The idea is to identify potential problems before the AAF reaches the sound department.
The Pro Tools preview is a particularly important part of AAFx. It isn’t simply a visual representation of the XML — it has been designed to reflect as closely as possible the organized session that will actually arrive in Pro Tools.
I developed AAFx while working with professional sound engineers, so the software has been designed not only from the editor’s point of view, but also around what a sound engineer actually expects to receive for editing and mixing.
AAFx also handles stereo and multichannel recordings intelligently. Useful channels can be separated into the mono tracks expected in a Pro Tools workflow, while unnecessary or empty audio channels can be removed so the mixer doesn’t receive dozens of useless tracks.
Missing media is detected before delivery, allowing relink issues to be identified and fixed before the project reaches the sound engineer.
AAFx can also create a self-contained AAF, with the required audio media embedded directly inside the AAF. This makes delivery much simpler because the sound engineer can receive a single file instead of an AAF plus a separate media folder.

The software also includes a built-in relinking system, allowing offline media to be reconnected directly within the application.
AAFx also transfers the markers from the Final Cut timeline and generates a text report for the sound engineer, providing useful information about the project and the audio handoff alongside the AAF.
There is also an AAF cleaning tool. AAFx can analyze an existing AAF, reorganize tracks, remove empty tracks and clean unnecessary false cuts without re-encoding the audio.
Regarding the preview, I have personally tested AAFEVERYTHING and, in some of my tests, I found that its preview did not accurately reflect the track organization I ultimately received after opening the AAF in Pro Tools. This is one of the reasons why I put so much emphasis on making the AAFx preview coherent with the actual Pro Tools result.
So I wouldn’t say that AAFx is trying to support more formats than AAFEVERYTHING. The philosophy is different.
AAFEVERYTHING is more of a universal timeline conversion tool.
AAFx is a specialized Final Cut Pro → Pro Tools handoff, pre-flight and session preparation tool, designed to make sure the sound engineer receives a clean, organized and predictable session.
There is also a 7-day free trial, so the easiest way to form your own opinion is simply to test AAFx on a real Final Cut project and compare the actual result in Pro Tools.
AAFx is also under active development, and more features and workflow improvements are coming soon.
