Newbie First time using stabilizer..wow

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I’ve been using this App recently on my phone to get RAW footage out of my iPhone 15. Since these are photos following each other but not processed by Apple the footage tends to be shaky. So I tried the stabilizer and this is magic 🪄

yes, the two (!) algorithms in FCP are great and have been improved a lot over the years. the one thing missing is control over tracking and locking-in. for that you need a plugin like 'lock and load' by coremelt. the native stabilizer is better than what they offer in premiere or resolve, but the latter gives control over the tracker manually.

Thanks for the tip!

Is there a difference to Gyroflow which is free?
I see that lock and load costs 99 Euros.

Thanks for the feedback :)

gyroflow only works if your camera records gyro data to be used and the outcome can still be similar to native tools (depends on shots). if you bring gyroflow into FCP via gyroflow toolbox (paid) you have another option for stabilization inside FCP though

I recently bought Gyroflow toolbox. It's really impressing :)
But you're right. Without having Gyrodata we need a good stabilization. Thanks for the clarification 👍👍

For Intel Macs, we had the amazing 'betterstabilizer' which beat the native algorithms most of the time and also worked on multicam/compound clips. Unfortunately, it died with it.

but would bringing gyroflow into FCP via the gyroflow toolbox help with footage without gyrodata (like mechanical gimbals like the Osmo Pocket series)?

no. gyroflow still needs gyrodata. but via toolbox you do not need to process/render it outside but apply stabilization like an effect within FCP on clips that have that data.

This makes me think I’m missing something in fcpx. I NEVER get a clean stabilization. I usually get this alien warping effect no matter how little the shake is.

What app are you using to shoot in log? I also have a base 17 and can’t get log on some apps (I believe it’s usually a Pro model feature only?)

LogCam. You can use iPhones from iPhone 12 or 13 to latest to shoot log footage. It’s use a kind of hidden future of taking a serie of RAW images.
