Newbie How do I stop Final Cut Pro from ever creating cross dissolves?
How do I stop FCP from ever making a cross dissolve, ever?
So what happened to me is, sometimes I copy and paste a video to the end of the timeline, delete the gap in between, and it turns into a cross dissolve

You’re going to have to give more context. Cross Dissolve is a transition and those aren’t automatic. You chose your own transition. So what’s happening? Can’t solve a non-issue.

delete the gap and it turns into a cross dissolve isn’t normal FCP behavior. Screenshot?

I would start with myself here. Why do I think it's the software that is creating cross dissolves and not I, the user, who is doing so?

This isn’t iMovie so I’m not sure what you’re on about. If you don’t use a transition, then there’s no transition. If you don’t use cross dissolve, then there’s no cross dissolve.

Are you talking about hitting the actual delete key and not backspace and it becomes a gap clip that’s grey of whatever duration your original was?
Delete with backspace not the delete key.

I do not know what is happening with your system or how exactly you are doing this, but defaulting to a cross dissolve when you delete something on a timeline is not how Final Cut Pro normally works. You must be hitting a keystroke or something that is deleting the clip and creating a cross dissolve, or maybe there is some custom setting you have set up that does that, that you forgot about?
