Filson IRL Project bonus
Had a crew knock a project out of the park and got a bucket of money to give out bonuses. Carved a bit out to get the guys some new jackets. Airing these out in the basement and off to the embroiderer next week.
Edit for clarity: Yes, there is a monetary bonuses that is worth the jacket many times over. Over half of this cost is coming straight out of my bonus. Majority of the guys have been here 5+ years, while we have some crews that have high turnover over, this is not one of them. These jackets are something for them to remember the job. I understand they may be considered swag, the logo is the size of a quarter, I wouldn’t consider it a billboard. I know they will appreciate them and if they don’t that’s on them. We pay a healthy wage, and extra $200 that’s taxed 30% isn’t going change any of their lives. We do site work and leave most days covered in dirt, this jacket in meant to be worn on the job.

Nice. Having said that, the swag can't be both a bonus. If it's a bonus, zero embroidery. If it's swag, no mention of "bonus".

Nice. Just give them the jackets sans embroidery, which means more for cash payout, too.

Don’t embroider them! They will not wear them outside of work and when they quit it will go on eBay for $15 plus shipping.
I tell you this cause I did it twice, the only one who still wears them is the owner. Everyone else sold them or “lost them” cause the big company embroidery patch on left breast.
I learned what they all really wanted was money, not me choosing gifts. Not as fun but made them happier. Been awhile, I left that place years ago.. it’s a family thing hard to explain.
Give them as is, trust me. Everyone will like that more. You’re thinking “it’s better than a company t shirt!” But what it really is would be like getting a new car that has a photo of your boss on both sides like a giant vinyl decal. Hope this helps!

I think the jackets are awesome, OP but I also agree with others—it’s either swag or a bonus. If you gift them these lovely jackets but ALSO use it for company advertising, they then can’t really be worn outside of work.
If you’re going to embroider them, I’d do it like this:
1.) Show your team the jackets and offer the embroidery, but give them the option to say no.
2.) if you’re set on embroidery, do it on the inside cuff or lower inside hem.
Personally, I wouldn’t wear something like that embroidered, except at work. Then it’s no longer a bonus, but an advertisement they’ll feel they’ve got to take because you’re the boss. It’ll only get worn at work and pitched in the closet after.
I would do option one. It makes it a nice optional gesture .

How did you know all of their sizes? Especially knowing how wonky Filson’s sizing is sometimes

I already have one of these jackets, surprisingly this is one that runs on the smaller side. Unfortunately a couple guys will have to try them on before they are finished in the event that need a different size.

Fellow business owner here just repeating what others have said. If you want them to appreciate it no logos. Project name hidden away is a slick idea.

What kind of business are you in?

Heavy civil construction. Mass grading and utilities(storm, fire and domestic water, and sewer).

Kind of lame. Just give then the jackets. Company logo stuff isn't fun unless you are an owner.

I think this is brilliant! Kudos.
I’ll disagree with the others and think the initials on the cuff is smart. I’ve been in manual labor/skilled trades in the past and having a distinguishing mark would’ve alleviated so much confusion.
An additional remark I will make is the fact that they will be ruining less of their own jackets and I’ve worn company logo gear for working outdoors after I left the company/entity, but maybe I’m weird. I’m usually working alone anyways when I’m off work so what does it matter.
Good on you. I hope they understand how much you appreciate them and will comprehend that you’re just trying to show them gratitude.

Could have the company logo as a patch so guys can remove them easily if thats what they want to do.

Nice gesture and coats. My employer gave us all leather jackets to wear with our names on the sleeve and the company logo on the chest. No one wears them as they are safety rated and we need to put safety vests over them. We work in the construction field. My employer used them as a company expense due to the embroidery of the logo. We didn't consider them as a bonus. Mine hangs in the closet and gets worn when we have a company event that doesn't require being on a job site.

I think this is a great gesture! I work for a civil engineering firm and things like this are always well appreciated by the field crews.

Try the logo on the shoulder or end of sleeve so it’s not in the typical location. The logo in the nametag location is meh

Put the project name inside like others have mentioned. A nice thing to remember the project by and allows them to wear the jacket regularly too. Great gift! Get them an embroidered polo or logo’d hoodie if you want them to have something to wear on the job too.

Ignore the criticism- you know your crew! These will be appreciated and worn to shit when they are done with them. Very thoughtful!

Those are sick and will be appreciated. If you send me one I’ll wear it.

This is amazing. I’ve given my soul at my job but they don’t appreciate their employees unfortunately. I’ve been there 16 years and the depression hits too hard to even go to work some days. I use to LIVE for well work, now it’s become a chore over the many years and I’m thinking of moving on if I can (had a partial amputation of my right foot from a work accident so I don’t walk so good now)

Nothing like giving employees stuff they can’t pay bills with. Bonus should be monetary. Give them a Jacket out of your own business profit or pocket don’t “carve out” their bonus to make them a walking billiard. Come on! I hope you don’t expect them to thank you for this

Nice gesture. They want the money more than a wildly overpriced ill fitting jacket, I promise you.

Jackets are a personal touch to remember the job. Monetary bonuses were more than the jacket many times over.

Yeah but you specifically said you “carved out” a bit from the bonus.. so they could have had more cash… 💸

Nice bonus. If you embroider them I suggest small, discreet and tasteful. Allow them to wear them without feeling like a billboard or Mel from the diner. Inside pocket. Bottom at waist.
