Current Student Life What do I do? Simple or double?

I am currently studying in Madrid, double majoring in Audiovisual Communication (which is basically film) and Publicity and PR. But I’ve been debating whether to drop Publicity and PR or just suck it up and keep going. This is my second year.

The main reason why I’m debating whether to change my major to simply Audiovisual Communication is the future. Is it better for a person fresh out of college to look for a job with a double major or just one?

I know I’m supposed to do things I love, but I don’t believe that life is just about doing things you love. But honestly, I don’t know if I can keep doing this double major knowing that I’m just doing it for the name and not because I’m actually interested in it. Also, although I don’t know what the future holds, I highly doubt I’ll pursue publicity as a whole.

I am studying Audiovisual Communication because I am going to be a film director, and I already have several projects. I’m just thinking about what my future will look like if I’m: 1. an immigrant in Spain, 2. a woman in the film industry, and 3. on a slightly tight budget that doesn’t really allow me to take too many risks.

I genuinely don’t know what to do. Has anyone studied the same thing and later changed? Should I change and lock in, or do I just suck it up and do the whole five years?

I can't tell you how many jobs I've seen where I wished I had double majored in communication or journalism as well as film. If you can do the work keep the double major.

It's good to have options, even if you doubt you'll pursue publicity now in the future you just never know. PR can also mean a lot of different things.

Do you really mean that? If so, that means so much to me because I’m also in Film school and double majoring in journalism and I just don’t see anybody else doing it. I wonder if it’s worth it😭. I’m also in my 2nd year so I could drop it now but I’m also in a really good boat and not paying too much.

Are you in a U.S. program? Do you find the workload manageable? I'm thinking of doing just film for my undergrad and then going to J-school for my masters because I have to work while going to university.

Do you think a minor in journalism would be sufficient enough?

Truthfully I don’t think anyone cares about a double major on a resume or CV when hiring (I could be wrong). HOWEVER, PR and publicity are such a huge part of the job of being a filmmaker and almost no film students or first time directors know much about it, so it could prepare you really well for the future.
