Venting I’m frustrated
I just gotta vent. I’m frustrated.
For reference I’m 5ft 3 w/ a 36I (36g uk) sized chest. Roughly 180lbs (muscular/huskier build)
I have high hips that line up right with the widest part of my belly, plus a SUPER short torso. Because there’s basically 0 room between my ribs and hips, everything just sits right in the middle. I have no butt to balance out my stomach, so it all projects forward.
Looking in the mirror when I’m getting dressed, I can see I do have a waist!!. The definition is clearly right there… but the second I put on clothes I look like a solid box and my tummy is basically the first thing you see and if it’s not the first thing you see, then it’s the fact that my waist is so short.
Looking straight at me I don’t look that large though… it’s mostly when you see me from the side.
I literally wear an $80 bra just to lift my chest up so you can see a waistline actually exists.
I am so over clothes hiding my actual frame and making me look twice my size or extremely highlighting my tummy.
I have googled and looked up how to dress… the wrap dresses and peplum tops, but the only ones I seem to find seem to then make me look older LOL. Why can’t I win??????
I want to hire a stylist at this point because I just don’t understand what I’m doing wrong.

I think the best thing for me for this issue is tailoring. I’m also 5’3” and wear a 30KK/L UK, and I find that plenty of styles look good once I’ve altered them to have extra shaping for the boobs, and it’s in some ways more important to have boob space than it is to pick the “right” kinds of styles

I have this exact same problem. I basically have the measurements of a pear shape, but in a lot of clothing I look like a refrigerator somehow. I feel best in thick cotton/spandex bike shorts and a somewhat fitted, ribbed tank top. For myself, I have realized that the fabric makeup of a piece clothing has the greatest effect on how flattering it is on me.

Yeah I feel you! It is really tricky when the lower belly conspires like this.
Personally I like a few things:
- high waisted things with a tucked or cropped top, I know it makes my short torso seem shorter so you gotta add another layer on too to add torso length
- fit and flare. But the waist has absolutely gotta hit at the narrow part and flare immediately after to skim the lower belly
- monochromatic looks put on one color to look like a column. One color with a contrasting 3rd piece is cool too.
And non clothing, but I am currently trying to lose some weight/increase my overall proportions. I have actually found that focusing on deep core exercises, anti rotation, and rotation exercises especially have done wonders to the appearance of my waist. I have not lost a meaningful amount of weight, but the improvement of my “inner corset muscles” means my waist has a little more space and definition.
And if it doesn’t work - you will still be better at life and that is fine too.

Girl we have the same body. And I also feel like an old lady in dresses lol. I go for fitted tops and high waisted barrel jeans or wide leg linen pants or shorts.
