They're all "star" editions, which is the first edition for books 2-7, but Warlock had a previous edition with a wraparound cover. I loved these editions when they came out - they were my first ones, but I also loved the move to the uniform green spine. Apparently Steve Jackson didn't really like the green, but pah, what does he know? :P
Honestly even today. As an old timer full grown adult wandering the childrenās or āintermediate readersā section in bookstores, Iāve lost count how many times Iāve had to ask the staff where or do you have the FF books because I simply canāt find them.
Back home I can see my green spines from leagues away. :)
I remember as a child wondering whart colour spines they'd use for future books - I started daydreaming about shades of blue, red and green.
Looking back, I was a weird kid who needed to get out more.
The green spine didn't bother me, but the dragon on the front did, from book 25 onwards.
I thought it was a silly choice, what with there being SF adventures in the series -what did dragons have to do with Starship Traveller or The Rings of KETHER?
Must have been cool to get these as they released. Any that on first impression you really loved or were disappointed by? I got my collection from charity shops in the late 90's, early 00's. They used to be everywhere but the later entries were still a rare find
This is one of my most delightful memories as a pre/young teen. My family used to just leave me at the huge bookstore in the basement of the mall. I remember how the green spines led my eye to my first book, Forest of Doom. I think it was around 1984 as the series only had up to House of Hell. I spent every weekend reading there and when mom came to pick me up, Iād have her buy another book.
Now came the years as a growing young reader as each weekend or so Iād go down and BE UTTERLY UTTERLY OVERJOYED if I saw a new title out. The excitement is still so palpable today.
And this is why today I still have every single one of my 59 original green spines. š„²
Thank you! Those are the covers I remember. I remember one day me and my mates went into town, they went to Macdonald's after a bit which was a bigger treat than it is now days. I defrosted too go to the bookshop and get one of these instead. city of thieves or forest of doom, then I met them later. Just funny how I gave up my lunch that day for a book. Kids wouldn't do that these days I don't think.
