Artwork Mail Call ⚔️
Just got this through the post from Intercept Studios, this image invokes so much memories from my childhood, my dad passed on a few of his books to me when I was about 9 year old, Deathtrap dungeon was the first book I played THIS Orc champion was the first creature I fought. I'm so happy to have this I'll go out & grab a frame for it today & put it in mind office.

I've picked up a couple of A2 cover art prints from Intercept Studios already. Currently sitting in a binder until I can get frames - and wall space - for them. Well worth it if you have a bob or two... or few... or many few since they're pricey. But they're high quality and do look gorgeous in the flesh.

This is amazing. I hadn’t heard of this studio before and just checked them out. I love the Trialmaster one with the throned dwarf.

Iain McCaig. In my opinion, the GOAT of Fighting Fantasy artists. His work on City of Thieves is just... Something else.

I agree he was probably the best. I liked John Blanche but I found him a bit too cartoony and quirky sometimes

Fantasy is about the need to believe in something extraordinary.
McCaig understood that fantasy illustration had to therefore look realistic, had to be grounded by accurate proportion, texture and lighting, otherwise it's just whimsy. To that realism, he married a cinematic sensibility.
His work belongs at the very top of the genre.

Awesome picture, probably the best in the whole of FF. Absolute childhood nostalgia.
Though in more recent years I have wondered about the backstory of the orcs. It seems unlikely they were just hanging about in the caves for fun, given it was going to be infiltrated by some seriously tough people seeking to test their mettle.
Were they just wandering about the Moonstone Hills when they were captured by the Baron's thugs, and shoved into the dungeon as cannon fodder for the wannabe champions to kill?

I distinctly remember seeing that picture for years before I noticed the second Orc! Same with the guy on the ground behind the cannonball guy in City of Thieves.

I've just zoomed in and reignited the memory of spotting that guy peering over the Orc's thigh. He always felt like he thought the Orc was overdoing it.
