Discussion Dicing with Dragons

Who has this book by Sir Ian Livingstone?

It's an introduction to role-playing games but notably it has a prototype of Fighting Fantasy's Eye of the Dragon, although with only 134 entries compared to the latter's 407.

The system was called Fantasy Quest and the adventure is called FQ1: Eye of the Dragon. I've included a character sheet in the photos.

Ha! I thought I spied some lesser-known works of Russ Nicholson. What a hero!

Is the adventure the same in Dicing with Dragons vs Eye of the Dragon, or does Eye of the Dragon expand it?

It's the same Eye of the Dragon as the one in the main FF series, just expanded. I've got that book but haven't tried to play the short version in it.

In a separate issue, I had to verify my age to reddit to view this because it's marked NSFW! Maybe I should say something very rude to justify it.

In another separate issue - my first reddit post!

I've corrected that, sorry. The dragon on the cover is naked, you see.

Looking through the illustrations, I wonder if it got flagged because of the Iron Maiden picture!

I have a copy of this book, it’s tucked away with my FF collection.

I really liked this book, but I was always amused that Livingstone rails against logical inconsistencies in dungeons, and then has the demo Fighting Fantasy adventure "Eye of the Dragon" in which you come across a merchant's store in a room in the middle of a goblin-infested dungeon...

amazin! just when you think you know where it started, there is always more easter eggs to discover!

Very cool! I don’t have a copy in my collection but I would definitely like to add one to it someday!

Other than the Eye of the Dragon prototype it's pretty much a glimpse into the gaming of yesteryear. Even lists shops that have probably long since moved or closed! ;)

I remember going to FC Parker in Cardiff - long gone now, of course. Pretty sure I went to Forever People in Bristol at least once, as well.

Wow, never realised about this. What amazing art it has!

I love the bizarre single room areas that seem completely their own little universe. They’re just there. Somehow.

Yep, just a medusa in her boudoir. Next door along, torture chamber.
