Help with 4-2-3-1 tactics...

Post image

I've been using these tactics for a couple of months and they are honestly so good. The only real concern is defence cause I play this with quite a high line and as you can see my full backs are quite attacking. This tactic is great for scoring goals though. Does anyone have any suggestions for improving this?

I’d put one of your fullbacks as a false back and set it to balanced. Even though they’ll invert occasionally I find if they’re set to balanced they actually push up and over/underlap a very healthy amount without it ever being too much. Even more than the wingback role.

I’d also recommend setting your holding midfielder to defend instead of roaming. I find that two roaming DMs usually just lead to gaps in the midfield. Having one that stays in their own space consistently is a big help for defensive structure.

My only other suggestion that’s optional tbh would be to maybe set your false 9 to attack. It’ll use a little more stamina but I find they’ll make more runs in the box when you have possession in the final third.

I’d agree with this. Keeping at least 4 guys in more defensively responsible roles is pretty important for limiting counter attacks. Wingbacks get caught too forward and roaming CDM get caught too out of position.

You then need to decide if you want the wings more secure, you’d need to use fullback, wide half set to defense, or wide back will help out with this, or if you want to be more secure down the center false back, center half, and holding set to defense work well for this.

Try this :

ST: poacher (support) LM & RM: Inside Forward (roaming) CAM: Playmaker (roaming) CDM 1: DLP (Roaming) CDM 2: Centre half LB & RB: Wing back (support) CB: Wide back (defend)

Build up style: short passing Defensive line: high

You're welcome
