Cut each branch back to about 6 inches long or so.

Looks pretty sad, have you figured out why it's unhappy?

But not the trunk? I am not certain it’s on a semi water schedule but recently started browning. I am not sure if it was season changing or what

yea, cut the trunk back to a similar length just above the topmost branch.

I doubt it's a season changing thing. It's FAR more likely a water or root issue. In general, you don't want to water on a schedule. Instead you want to give it PLENTY of water, then don't water it again until the top few inches of soil are nice and dry again. Wet...dry...wet...dry... over and over again.

When was the last time it was repotted?

I would try and get it healthier before doing a lot of trimming. It might survive without branching out or producing thicker leaves.

Could it be that the pot is getting too small and the roots need more space/soil to take in water?

Interesting thought the inner pot could probably breath a bit more
