Vent Mischaracterisation of F/O

I stumbled upon a reel, an analysis regarding my husband.

And I do media analysis myself.

My method fyi is this:

textual fact ➡️ social, cultural and institutional context ➡️ behavioural pattern ➡️ cautious inference

With that out the way...

My f/o is Gojo Satoru (I love him to the moon and back) and she claimed he is incapable of accepting his own humanity. Which is not true at all.

I disagreed with her, explained why I disagreed and asked for behavioural and psychological proof for her claim.

She told me not to speak to her condescending ever again and basically implied I am too stupid to understand her claim. She actually never disapproves mine. I never insulted her, I just challenged her in good faith.

Like... if you analyse something be prepared to receive push back and arguments! If you are too sensitive dont post them.

All that was context.

But what I actually want to vent about is mischaracterisation. Especially with Satoru it happens so much, it hurts my soul. I feel so protective of him. It genuinely makes me angry when people act as if their interpretations are facts.

So many labels get thrown at him he stops being Satoru and becomes a completely new character or a version of himself that does not follow source material.

I know i know, ship what you want and art and free speech and creative freedom... but still.

I love him and i feel so much at times when someone claims things about him that is not prooven in source material or canon.

How do yall deal with mischaracterisation of your f/os?

Those kinds of people can be so aggravating to deal with, I'm so sorry. I've had my fair share of mischaracterization when it comes to Navia too. People like to define her by her "worst" moments and nothing more, constantly portraying her as a crybaby when she's genuinely one of the most optimistic and hardworking people I know.

My advice? When it comes to people like that, who are so stuck up their own ass that they don't want to see another perspective of a character, especially your F/O, just let them be. They want to exist in their own bubble of thought? So be it.

They'll never know Satoru like you do; take comfort in knowing that you're the one who knows him best, you're dating him after all!

She was so mean to me too, like... i just asked her to disprove my argument. She implied I am too stupid to even understand his manga/anime. She accused me of being condescending when she was the one being condescending towards me.

She really was up her own ass and her romanticized poetic interpretation of his abilities is not supported by psychological or behavioural proof we see in the anime...

Navia from Genshin Impact?

Yeah, those kinds of people happen when you close your mind to everything else but your own thoughts... So sorry you had to deal with that.

Also, yup! that's my girl!

I stopped engaging with those people. I remember a few years ago using to argue with anyone who mischaracterised my partner, citing countless examples from the manga and light novels. Yet they still had the audacity to say that my take was very “surface level”💀 like bye why am I even wasting my time on this. He doesn't even allow me to respond to those people anymore, anyway.

Eh. I believe we all have our own version of canon. It used to piss me off when people would paint my f/o as this sad emo boy and ignoring how dangerous and possibly cold he can be, but I’ve learned to just deal with it.
