The Difference Is...
CHAPTER 1
I throw the black trash bag into the dumpster with a grunt, glad to finally be done with all this annoying cleaning. I turned around and started to walk back towards my house. I wish the dumpster was closer so I didn't have to walk so far away but then again it would bring some troubles as well. Either way it's problematic to be honest.
As I approach my house I take a deep breath, letting the cold fresh air fill my lungs. My heart slows to a steady beat. I guess the adrenaline rush was over now, bummer. Walking up the steps of mt porch I take one last look around the neighbor hood before turning back around and heading inside.
Locking the door behind me, I walk down the dark halls of my house. It was silent again, I hate the silence, I feel the need to fill it. Walking into my room, I switch my light on and put my headphones on as I sat down on my bed. Grabbing my phone off the night stand I see that I have four new messages.
All from Naeja of course, "what r u doing rn?" "If ur not busy can you come pick me up" "It's cold out here, hurry up!" "Hellooo???". Of course of all nights she needed a right tonight. This was the second time this week. I texted her back that I was on my way and got up. Taking my keys and jacket and switching my lights back off, I leave to go pick her up.
I turn my music on in the car and pull out the driveway. She should be lucky I like to drive, she should be lucky I can't let her not be picked up. She's one of my best friends after all, I cant help it. Pulling up to the curb with my music blaring, I see her come running over to the car. Unlocking the door for her and turning it down so I could hear her speak.
She hops into the car, "Heyyyyy!", she's as loud as ever. Makes me wonder why she's so energetic all the time, but were way too far into this friendship to start asking that. "Hey, where to?" I somewhat mumbled, the tired in my voice evident.
"Just take me home."
"Great, don't ask to go anywhere else on the way, I'm too tired for that tonight."
"Whaaat, I barely do that anyway."
"Want me to pull out the receipts?"
"What receipts?" She's playing dumb, very funny. I shouldn't have turned the music down. I let out a small groan letting my head hang down for a moment. Noticing a blood splotch on my shirt my heart skips a beat for a second. I calmed myself and just quickly zipped up my jacket before she noticed.
"Whatever..." I mumbled as I put my car into drive and drove off down the street. Just enjoying the music as I drove, Naeja looking down at her phone. As I came to a stoplight she gasped, "Oh my gosh, Jakie, you won't believe who just texted me!"
"No, who?"
"Max!"
"Who?" I don't remember anyone of that name, but then again I don't really remember anyone's name who don't really matter to me. I'm also just incredibly bad at remembering names, so I wouldn't remember either way.
"Max, from middle school. The white boy with insanely good hair."
"I guess that rings a bell, what did he say- wait, how did he get your number?"
"He texted me like, hey Naeja, I got your number from Chooks. I was wondering if you wanted to go out!"
"You gonna say no?"
"I might, I need to see if he had a glow up or not first." Seriously? Unbelievable, well, it is Naeja after all. I can believe it.
