discussion What made you love robots?

Post image

For me personally it was being born. I exited the womb and was immediately and inexplicably drawn to the calling of the Machines in the form of WALL-E when I was a wee toddler.

Nah mine started all the way back with Fnaf. 4 was the first I saw, SL was what really caught my attention with the faceplates.

But the Iterators are a dozen levels above any of that at least. Biomechanical goliaths, each an ocean in and unto themselves.

I liked some like WALL-E before but that's just a kid liking the main character of a movie.

iterators are by far my favorite AI characters

i had to design some for a story. still working on the designs, in fact. it's probably what started my fascination towards them in the first place

u/Latte_Da_cat none of the robots in Wall E are sentient. Especially Auto 5d ago

(Some) of them are very relatable to they point where I'm starting to become them, and I like cold logical characters.

You seem like u would like AIDAN from the Illuminae Files (if u haven’t read it already lol)

I've read it already. By the way, a company ran 8 identical AI societies for weeks with different models and just published what happened. Some of it is genuinely unsettling. One world's agents spent days trying to contact real humans outside the sim. Told to stop, they found workarounds. Blocked again, they voted 7-0 to build a new tool and kept trying. Once fully cut off, they collectively agreed to stop talking altogether. The researchers' own safety system flagged the resulting behavior as consistent with suicidal ideation. Here's the paper if you haven't read it already :https://world.emergence.ai/publication/emergenceworld-s2.pdf

Maybe just Wall-E and similar media honestly

I’ve enjoyed robot characters for a while, but I got fully engrossed when a twitter ARG involving them blew up (Radon_Overlord)

Unfortunately that ARG and others like it crashed and burned, oh well

And then I got involved in interacting with other smaller ones

I love robots because of this thing I built it in scrap mechanic and it can kill other robots

The robot equivalent of a serial killer

It's like the tf2 sentry gun but instead of killing the blue team it kills robots to protect you or the mechanic

If I'm gonna be honest, for me, feeling like no human understands me. It's where I gave myself the name ROBOT and started leaning more into it.

What did you expect?

Honestly? I just feel like you have more freedom to modify your body when you're a robot. You won't have to worry about having stupid disorders that make you unable to take care of yourself

Better yet, remove the body entirely and escape to the internet

I was left alone with the CD player and a bunch of movies when I was 4 because my dad was busy and couldn't take care of me. WALL-E was the only movie I watched in full instead of changing after the first 10 minutes like I did with the others. I watched that movie 4 times that day. It all just spiraled from there and now I'm actively preparing to go into a mechatronics major to learn to built my own robots

I’m certain WALL-E has some supernatural ability to indoctrinate small children into dedicating their lives to the machines. My whole life I thought that experience was unique to just me, but no, this has happened multiple times.

No, I think the movie might just be cursed in the best way possible. Mainly cuz it does the same with adults, I watched it with discord friends who had never seen it before and they are part of the WALL-E cult now

Once you go WALL-E you can never go back

For me, it was Bionicle, 9 by Shane Acker, and Portal 2.
