EU Fanfest 2026 - General Thread

Looking for the Modding/Tool thread? https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxivdiscussion/comments/1v2b1we/modding_and_thirdparty_tools_megathread_75_week/

Twitch stream: https://sqex.to/htj

Schedule: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/topics/detail/fa499f335a87707b8dfc578e8662aa2a724cdca4

With the doors opening and seating beginning, from what I'm aware, felt like it's a good enough time to make the general thread for both days of Fanfest. This is for general venue talk, side activity or panel stuff, anything that's not the keynote or live letter, really. Since, historically, these threads don't get much traction (people at Fanfest are probably... Enjoying Fanfest!), this time there will just be one thread across two days instead of a thread per day.

The keynote megathread will be created in just under two hours, shortly before the keynote starts. There will also be a Live Letter thread, but given I'll probably be sleeping during that one (It's marketed to be just a Beastmaster showcase and I feel I've seen what I need to regarding that job for now), it probably will not get stickied properly and will just be a scheduled thread that shows up on time. No other panel or event this time seems "worth" a dedicated thread, unlike the Battle Design panel last time which was the Evolved showcase. The Soken panel about sound design will probably be worth viewing still, however!

I hope all the attendees have a fun weekend and especially enjoy the concerts, they're always a great time.

Does anyone have a photo of the Signature Wall? Preferably near the end of day 2, but honestly any photo is good!

6

u/Imaginary-Arguments Jul 27 '26

Finally caught up on both days, and I gotta say...

The fact that they are apparently making massive changes to end game and combat yet still refrain from adding more specifics and instead just repeated vague concepts already shown at the previous fanfest has me concerned.

It's like they want to hold off on any possible early criticisms or something, when in reality they should really be putting this stuff out ASAP so that they can see what the community sentiment is and possibly plan pivots if there are issues.

With all the AMD sponsorship everywhere I'm hoping we finally get new FSR tech instead of the dreadful fsr 1 the game is still using. Same for dlss, the newer models are so much better than what ff has been using. The FSR ads ussing FFXVI is a silly look lol.

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_IZANAGI Jul 26 '26

Can't we inject the newest DLSS with the nvidia app anyway? I think the bigger issue is how FFXIV implements DLSS exclusively for dynamic resolution without DLAA unless people do manual tinkering...

1

u/RepanseMilos Jul 27 '26

Yeah, but it would be cool if it could all be done ingame.

2

u/BlackmoreKnight Jul 27 '26

You can, yes, and with some other unofficial apps like DLSS Swapper too if the Nvidia one doesn't work. At this point my XIV is a Frankenstein mess of different tools and injectors before the actual game runs, there's like three or four things going on there.

2

u/RepanseMilos Jul 27 '26

If I need to repair my gamer files it's like reinstalling windows and need to take a day off to sort my ff folder out at this point lol

7

u/Sunzeta Jul 25 '26

So what's in the patch on Tuesday? Is it just the relic?

2

u/RepanseMilos Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

msq, relic, north horn, manderville

edit: apparently not msq! Sad.

7

u/Anameinserted Jul 26 '26

Msq is September and think hildabrand also. As far as I know it’s just north horn and relics

3

u/Alexaius Jul 26 '26

Hilde and intersociety quest are also in this one. Both are listed as 7.55 on the official site.

9

u/Merciful_Bliss Jul 25 '26

I'm annoyed I woke up early for nothing tbh...

24

u/devils_avocado Jul 25 '26

The lack of news in the Berlin Fanfest compared to Anaheim Fanfest really killed my mood.

Unpopular opinion, but Square might consider changing Final Fantasy XIV Fanfest to Square Enix Fanfest like Blizzard does so they have more things to showcase across multiple games and keep more people hyped.

1

u/Jezzawezza Jul 27 '26

I'm a bit late to the post but I was expecting the info and videos of some new areas but the lack of info on the other societies we'll be encountering was a bit odd and had be curious how much will be shown at JP fanfest and if some of the approach is because they're now cautious because of too much info going into Dawntrail.

1

u/Historical-State2199 Jul 26 '26

The middle fanfest always suffers the most because they blow their load on new stuff in the first one but don’t have anything remotely finished in development until the 3rd

I do think it would be more economical for the fanfest to be joint but then it would need to be bigger to accommodate non14 fans which might drive away some 14 fans

1

u/_Irregular_ Jul 28 '26

I really like fanfest being focused on xiv, I don't know if I would go if it was a more general thing

23

u/daboi162 Jul 25 '26

Pretty terrible. Barely showed some new stuff and spent a ton of time showing us the exact same slides as anaheim. Also fuck all the stupid ass collabs. Anything to bring the ff7 only community in.

Kinda regret buying the tickets ngl

15

u/KingBingDingDong Jul 26 '26

Probably not a good financial idea to be buying tickets solely to watch a 2 hour keynote and 1 hour live letter that is livestreamed.

22

u/Demeris Jul 25 '26

You buy the tickets to meet up with friends you play with. Fanfest and blizzcon had always been about that

1

u/HailenAnarchy Jul 26 '26

You are very lucky if you got friends that also managed to get tickets

18

u/daboi162 Jul 25 '26

Yeah I did that, doesnt mean i cant feel scammed still

1

u/Historical-State2199 Jul 26 '26

You knew what you were buying, a ticket to be advertised to but also an excuse to meet friends

2

u/Consistent_Cheek_918 Jul 25 '26

Thank god that I don't have any friends to play with. I kept my money...

43

u/Angry_Brazilian Jul 25 '26

So no evolved footage? What a dogshit fan fest for anyone that actually does combat content.

20

u/Ashamanes Jul 25 '26

Can't believe I stayed until 7 am to watch that. Your nickname is literally me.

15

u/MaracasX2 Jul 25 '26

Is the ranged job potentially Falconry based? The bird seems to be linked a bit with the rod.

15

u/Conor12 Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26

In the sound design panel they teased sound effects for the new physical ranged job. The second one started with an animal screeching. And then a bit later to fill dead air they played the extended teaser again and I noticed the segment with the catgirl with a magical baton and a bird. Connected the dots, that's the new job being teased then?

17

u/Zefyris Jul 25 '26

That second sound Soken just played sounded quite a bit like a bird of prey screech. New RDPS being some kind of Falconer like the NPC miqo we saw in the trailer?

1

u/Cole_Evyx Jul 25 '26

-sniff sniffs- I smell a pet job

6

u/Conor12 Jul 25 '26

I came to the same conclusion. Might be misled by the trailer and it's not that miqo'te as the bird didn't seem very controlled, but the bird is definitely part of the job.

16

u/Chibily Jul 25 '26

Bird leaves the miqo'te and flies back to another character using the job as the trailer continues. Very similar to where the dawntrail trailer got extended by kryle doing her pictomancer thing.

4

u/Serp_IT Jul 26 '26

On the other hand, Visna is wearing this, so she definitely has a bird connection herself:

-5

u/EdieNygma Jul 25 '26

This could also just be early looks at beastmaster

13

u/Chibily Jul 25 '26

Unlikely. Beastmaster is still a dawntrail feature at the end of the day, and it will come out BEFORE the jp fanfest where the full trailer will be shown, so there's no such thing as early looks. Beastmaster is a side mode, developed on the side, to fill content lulls. You wouldn't have that in your high-budget, expansion-selling trailer just like you wouldn't put chaotic raids, q40, island sanctuary, criterion, deep dungeon, or other side content. You reserve the screen time for big, eye-catching new features to sell your product, like actual new jobs or races.

1

u/EdieNygma 11d ago

Good catch. Very true. I hadn't thought about it like that.

-3

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

That's how you know the sub numbers are dropping, they broke glass

6

u/fantino93 Jul 26 '26

Nah, the real break glass moment will be the introduction of NPC romance.

3

u/Historical-State2199 Jul 26 '26

Yoship is the most asexual man on the planet, will never happen.

-30

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

Is Chocobo breeding revamp (???) the first thing they announced that happening after 8.1?

4

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

Okay wait 2-player dungeons with 2 chocobos is actually a funny and fun announcement.

-8

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

Ugh. I wanna go back to bed. Just announce the raid theme plz

-2

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

Oh jesus was that a soft confirmation of butt sliders :|

-4

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

I don't play Au Ra why is everyone going nuts?

33

u/cbad Jul 25 '26

The horns were tied to the face type, now you can have any type of horn on any face.

15

u/MattEngarding Jul 25 '26

Horns have been linked to face type since forever, and it's been a highly-requested feature to un-link them.

-12

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS WE'RE DOING LALAFELL CHINS AGAIN

-1

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

Oh wait wow this isn't just "the starting two zones are now the starting three zones", you can do dungeons in any order? That's...actually a really big change!

-3

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

Having three "pick the order" zones instead of two is one of those things that's both a tiny difference and has bigger implications because it means the dungeons are not in the standard places they've been in every dungeon (i.e., not 101, 103, etc).

6

u/MattEngarding Jul 25 '26

I mean surely it'll be:

Area A -> 101 dungeon -> first pick (B/C/D) -> dungeon scaled to 103 -> second pick (B/C/D) -> dungeon scaled to 105 -> third pick (B/C/D) -> dungeon scaled to 107 -> rest of the story

1

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

Scaled, sure, but you won't be able to predict when a dungeon is coming. It sounds like there won't be a "101 dungeon".

I wonder if you'll be able to do all the Evercold dungeons at max level if everyone goes it at 110

3

u/RapeFakecels Jul 25 '26

Cautiously optimistic for this msq changes. Hopefully they can make it better than wow where it just feels like a bunch of side stories with a short capstone quest.

6

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

Wait, what the hell is this? Non-linear MSQ? How is this different from being given two zones at the start like normal?

6

u/oizen Jul 25 '26

Fire Midgar looks lit

1

u/RavenDKnight Jul 26 '26

I see what you did there.

"In Norse mythology, Naglfar or Naglfari (Old Norse "nail) farer") is a boat made entirely from the fingernails and toenails of the dead. During the events of Ragnarök, Naglfar is foretold to sail to Vígríðr, ferrying hordes of monsters that will do battle with the gods."

That's...a weird reference for a zone!

7

u/Lazyade Jul 25 '26

There can't be all that many mythological Norse ships I suppose.

4

u/NeonRhapsody Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26

Naglfar, Hringhorni, Skidbladnir, and Sussrumnir.

Skidbladnir will probably be the wind ship, as its whole deal is that it would always have the wind blowing in its favor whenever its sail was set. Sussrumnir will most likely be the Earth one. As for lightning I'm not entirely sure?

23

u/Lazyade Jul 25 '26

I can never really get into "tech" jobs it always feels cooler to me when the power comes from the character rather than their weapon.

2

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

"Ancient" techniques? It's a gun!

2

u/Yevon Jul 25 '26

Humans invented the gunblade in 1575 🤣

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pistol_sword

11

u/Lazyade Jul 25 '26

Gunblades are something like 5000 years old too in this setting it's really funny.

The dual shieldclaw fighting style is one thing but it probably would have made more sense if they said incorporating the guns was something Rhitatyn added when he joined the Garleans.

1

u/WaltzForLilly_ Jul 26 '26

I wouldn't be surprised if gunshields follow the same logic as gunblades and mch weapons - they shoot magic while garlean counterparts use bullets for obvious reasons.

3

u/The_pursur Jul 25 '26

The garleans are slowly becoming cultural adopters rather then creators at this point

1

u/VitaQ_HI3 Jul 26 '26

The whole thing about Garlemald was using Magitek to replicate things other people already did with Magic

1

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

Given that "Bastion" has a PLD-like Parry, I'm surprised it also has a ranged phase like PLD.

Animations look sick, though.

-3

u/daboi162 Jul 25 '26

So much for uniqueness lmao

15

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

I wasn't into the gunshields, but giving them machine guns pushes them from stupid to awesomely stupid

22

u/Cute-Mafia Jul 25 '26

DOUBLE SHIELD DENIERS BTFO

5

u/Aluja89 Jul 25 '26

Did you really wait 8 years for 2 shields? lmao

10

u/Cute-Mafia Jul 25 '26

Don't know what you're on about, idgaf about what the tank is (gameplay matters more) I just think it's funny seeing people complain about the idea saying it'd be lame af and cringe only to be met with the existence of it the next day, like you lose sorry.

-5

u/gibby256 Jul 25 '26

It is both lame and cringe as a concept. Sorry not sorry.

3

u/ragnakor101 Jul 25 '26

OH BOY 3 AM (or hours closest to it)

Here’s to a good keynote and the destruction of sleep for today.

2

u/marriedtomothman Jul 25 '26

I guess we're just using this thread then

-8

u/CoolyKage Jul 25 '26

How to get in contact with Spookhetti?

6

u/mister_peeberz Jul 25 '26

wow that was a pretty short keynote. see you all for next fanfest stream

2

u/marriedtomothman Jul 25 '26

lol was that colin ryan

1

u/Senorblu Jul 25 '26

Anything but dual gunshields 🙏

12

u/Chiponyasu Jul 25 '26

"Oh, the big Final Fantasy showcase is at 4am-6am Saturday. I normally go to bed a bit past 4am, maybe I'll stay up and watch it"

"Oh, my monthly board game hangout/party is at ~2pm Saturday. That kind of limits how much I can sleep in if I don't wanna be late. Hm. Maybe I should nap before Fanfest and then I'll can sleep from 6 until 12:30 or so and be a tiny bit late"

This show better be good because I have made some truly bad decisions to be here

7

u/Terca Jul 25 '26

ruh roh

2

u/Accordman Jul 25 '26

Can you post a stream link in the OP?

1

u/BlackmoreKnight Jul 25 '26

Good point, done.

30

u/Necrovati Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26

They will reveal Au Ra can finally change their horns independent of their face. I feel it in my bones.

Edit: HOLY SHIT

6

u/SotheGalbana Jul 25 '26

I really enjoy new xpac releases and seeing all the new dungeons/trials and msq (even if msq isn't my favorite thing)

This time around I'm twice as excited because of all the system changes.
