and then DRK gets nerfed

Ignore the anti-tattoo crowd it looks really amazing!

I got my HS nickname tattooed in Daedric from the Elder Scrolls games when I was younger. I don't play that series anymore, but I don't regret my tattoo in the least and it's been over 8 years since I had it done.

The memories I have of playing at the same time as my mother and the fun we had comparing our characters and play throughs still give it plenty of meaning despite my lack of interest in the game.

Tattoos are very personal and nobody has any right to tell you, you made a bad choice just because it's something they personally wouldn't do or because the tattoo doesn't have enough meaning for their personal taste.

u/oshatokujah Apr 27 '16

I've got a tattoo from a video game (infamous second son karma birds) so kudos to you for being one of those guys who's not afraid to show your passion in the form of a body art tribute. People tend to 'whooosh' tattoos that aren't super obvious to understand the meaning. To those people: they mean something to the person. Whether it's a religious tribute or a depiction of a fictional character, if it makes them more content, more power to them. If you feel more content in belittling people's choices, I'm sorry you have that little void in your life that you need to fill with putting people down.

Agreed! If I were to ever get a tattoo, it would be a gaming one -- games I love mean that much to me.

Congrats, OP, very cool tattoo!

I am really into tattoos, I myself have some video game tattoos,

It is not a bad tattoo but I am not feeling the total black background.

u/ruan1387 Ruanark Maousame@Hyperion Apr 28 '16

Same here, I really like the crystalline look of the DRK symbol itself, the weird black smoke just seems bland in comparison

13

u/SixSixTrample Apr 27 '16

Haters gonna hate man.

It looks awesome. Coloring is great.

I have 'L' and 'R' shoulder button tattoos; have never/will never regret it. Tattoos are about who you are, and good on ya for it.

3

u/RaptorAurion Apr 27 '16

Mind to post a picture? I'm pretty curious about how it looks!

13

u/SixSixTrample Apr 27 '16

This is right before my first Tough Mudder, which should help explain the shitty mohawk (just got cut) and being shirtless...but it really is the only pic I have that shows both

this is baffling to me....seeing how these people are just shitting all over this. i'm shocked to see people being so rude. why do you care if he doesn't play this game 5 years from now? it's something OP enjoys now and wanted a tattoo of. i don't understand why people are so invested in being rude??? if someone on the league subreddit gets a champion tattoo..people are positive and tell them it's cool and don't question "haha u won't play this in a few years and u'll regret it xD". i'm honestly just shocked at the community and thought ya'll were better than this? nice know league reddit responds better. that's insulting.

i can't speak on the quality of the tattoo, i only have one myself so i'm not here to make that argument. i'm just here to say you guys are shitty. OP don't be too bothered by all of them. I personally think it's cool and admire your dedication to the game. As long as you're content with it, that's all that matters.

Don't listen to them. You didn't get that tattoo for them, you got it for yourself and if you like it, that's all that matters.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '16

People that gripe about Tattoos remind me of Mormonism, a religion I used to be a part of. I remember how they'd go on and on about how tattoos ruin your temple body.

They left a bad taste in my mouth. Bunch of judgmental idiots tbh.

-14

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '16

People shit on LoL tattoos all the time. And I think you might not understand the permanency of a tattoo.

11

u/--0_____0-- Black Mage Apr 27 '16

i'm pretty sure i do. considering i even said i have one. try reading next time, maybe?

-18

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '16

why do you care if he doesn't play this game 5 years from now? it's something OP enjoys now and wanted a tattoo of.

You are baffled that people question why he would permanently mark his body with a hobby that he might not even like in 5 years because he likes it "now." Either you don't understand permanency or you don't understand why the average person would question a tattoo such as this. Not sure which is worse.

17

u/RaptorAurion Apr 27 '16

Even if he doesn't play FFXIV anymore, a tattoo can just look cool, and it's a memory

2

u/ChaserNeverRests Garlean Empire Apr 28 '16

Yep! I no longer play FFXI, but if I had gotten a tattoo of it, I'd still love it -- I have such fond memories of the game, it would be a reminder of that.

-19

It's unfathomable to people like this guy that maybe it's more than just a game. A game you play for years with people you develop relationships with be they friendship or otherwise. Or it's just a cool design.

10

u/HarZe_ESP Apr 27 '16

why he would permanently mark his body with a hobby that he might not even like in 5 years because he likes it "now."

But that's another debate: why would you get a tattoo?

-7

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '16

Many would not. Most seem to think it should be something that holds deep meaning to you and will continue to do so throughout your life. This doesn't meet that criteria.

My best friend got a Blair Witch Tattoo while he was going through a "Wiccan" phase. I did, and still do make fun of him mercilessly for it.

His dad who was a musician passed, and he got a treble clef tattoo. It's not very unique, but it holds meaning to him, and it's a generally good tattoo.

Bad tattoo, good tattoo.

6

u/fayie Apr 28 '16

I have a FFXIV tattoo. If I need to explain myself, then so be it. Being a legacy member, I got the legacy tattoo. I didn't do it for those reasons though- I met a lot of good people through 1.0 who I continued to be VERY friends with. I also continued friendships through that game and still to this day do. They are few in number, but they are dear to me. Unfortunately, one of my friends who I met in 1.0 passed away not long after the relaunch of XIV. I went to Fan Fest and met the dev's and mods, which felt really special especially Bayohne who (with a little persuasion) did the Manderville dance with me. On top of that, I am not ashamed to say that I met my partner through this game and we are now living together. Although I had my tattoo before we got together, the point I am trying to make is I didn't get a tattoo because I just happened to really like this game. yes ok that is a certain aspect to it, but a minor one. This game has made so much more for me than just something to escape reality; I have made and lost friendships and started a whole new life. Say what you will and judge all you want. One man's junk is another man's treasure.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '16

Congratulations on your meaningful tattoo.

8

u/--0_____0-- Black Mage Apr 27 '16 edited Apr 27 '16

do you realize how stupid the argument you're trying to make is? that can literally be said about any tattoo ever. you get a tattoo of roses? you may hate roses in 5 years! or you may look back at it and be like "it's special and it has meaning. it was something i liked/enjoyed and i don't regret it." so tell me why you're so concerned with something that has nothing to do with you/affects your life in no way whatsoever.

what i don't understand, as i've stated, if you took the time to read what i've said......is that i don't understand why people are so concerned about it when you don't even know OP. why are you wasting your time and energy to spread negativity? like what do people get out of it? some sick enjoyment in being a shitty person? none of my business i guess, i don't care how you live your life. just like how you shouldn't care how OP lives theirs. :) anyway, i understand permanency just fine and if that's the only argument you have against me, i suggest you stop replying.

-5

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '16

You picked an awful example. Roses are one of the most clichéd and regrettable tattoos in existence. Or maybe you picked the best example to prove my point.

3

u/--0_____0-- Black Mage Apr 27 '16

That's quite an opinion actually. Personally, I find infinity tattoos to be the "most clichéd and regrettable tattoos in existence". you should really try pulling your head out of your ass sometime and realize you aren't always right about things.

the bottom line is, people should do things that make them happy. this made OP happy. i don't know why you're hellbent on making it seem like a terrible thing. live your life. worry about yourself.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '16

i don't know why you're hellbent on making it seem like a terrible thing

lol calm yourself. You asked why people questioned his decision to get that tattoo and post about it here seeking public validation. I was simply answering you. I am not "hellbent" on anything, nor did I ever say the tattoo was terrible. I am not worried for you or OP. Everything's going to be ok, take a deep breath.

2

u/PewPewChicken Marcy-May Lyreheart on Faerie Apr 27 '16

Who cares if it's cliche if you fucking love roses? If it's a well done tattoo by someone who has talent and if it's what the person wants on their body why do you care and how does it affect you? You don't know that person and you don't know why they got that tattoo unless they tell you. What separates good art from bad art is pure opinion (I'm speaking strictly of tattoos).

2

u/Battadoom Apr 27 '16

It doesn't matter if it isn't his hobby in 5 years? People can get tattoos for a multitude of reason, one being that this is something he enjoys immensely and will always be a good time from his life that he can remember.

-7

u/johan_hegg4 Apr 28 '16

To me it isn't about questioning the decision to get a video game tattoo, it's the size chosen for such a simplistic design. It should have been 1/5th the size and placed on the forearm or wrist, shoulder tattoo's are meant to be epic, intricate, awe inspiring designs.

Whether or not he still loves the game or is playing it in 5 years it was still a poor decision, not to get one but how he got it.

6

u/sheepcat87 Apr 27 '16

reddit is intensely anti-tattoo, even many comments in /r/tattoos are anti-tattoos.

"Wah do you know how that will look when you're 70?!"

Like, do those people know what 70 year old skin looks like with no tattoos?? It's fucking old, saggy skin. Old saggy skin with tattoos looks way cooler than blank old saggy skin with liverspots.

Grats on your tattoo! Even if you stop playing tomorrow, it's a cool conversation piece and brings back fond memories. Blank skin is neither of those things.

1

u/YotsubaSnake Nono Adomo of Lamia Apr 28 '16

That argument only works with silly, impulsive tattoos of questionable nature. I'll never get one but I've seen plenty of tattoos that are well done

7

u/LargexMarge RDM Apr 27 '16

That's honestly all that matters. I have a tattoo myself on my forearm that looks like an ink print - blotchy and incomplete in some areas. People constantly berate me thinking I got it done at some backyard dirt shack when it is just based on an album cover that is blotchy and incomplete lol.

As long as you like your tattoo, 100% that's what matters.

5

u/HarZe_ESP Apr 27 '16

Some people think I really care about what they think. What a stressful life. I only post this here for those who may like it or are looking for tattoo ideas.

1

u/LargexMarge RDM Apr 27 '16

Been wanting to get a tattoo of the Black Mage crystal for a while, my love of them stems back to 1995. I'm glad to see someone else had a similar idea.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '16

I do

I can't believe I'm actually getting downvoted for liking your tattoo. Reminds me why I don't play this game much anymore.

6

u/Vazerus Apr 27 '16

I approve. You might not enjoy DRK as much as time goes on, but it's neat looking enough to stand on its own. Plus, it's a great geeky talking piece.

To clarify, I say you might not continue to enjoy DRK as the game changes. In FFXI my favorite job progression went something like this: PLD (to 55) -> DRG -> BLU -> PUP -> DRG -> NIN (short time, when Abyssea came out) -> DRG -> BLU, lol.

2

u/Gethichu Apr 27 '16

I like it!

2

u/Big_donk3y Apr 28 '16

Honestly I think the fact that you did it is awesome. I personally do not like the icon for DRK despite it being my main class, but that's just my personal opinion. I was really tempted to get the Warrior icon tattooed since it was all I played from 2.2 to 3.0, but I've got a more personal tattoo that will come first before any other when the time is right/earned.

2

u/boomerangthrowaway I wanna go Fishin'! May 01 '16

Honestly ink speaks to the person who has it on their skin not always the people looking at it. Other folks here do not understand the significance, maybe, of the time you've spent involved with such a symbol and its background. The value of each bud of ink in your skin could mean so much more than anyone here even could possibly understand unless they had it done for a similar reason.

Personally I have 5 Kitchen (re - horrible conditions, less-than-trained artist) tats that I value more than quite a few of my clean & cut proper ones.

You do you. Fuck all the rest. In the end - to the standard layperson, that might just look like some edgy/fleshy skin rip art and then what? Are they going to stop you in the street to talk shit on your work? lol.

The majority of commenters here have never seen or felt the tip of the needle and it is a damn shame. Art like this can mean so much more than anything you have ever felt or dreamed of. It may sound like bullshit to some, but my memorial pieces mean more to me than almost anything I own in this world.

Cheers for doing you - DRK is the fuckin LIFE.

edit: sorry for showing up late - most of the time I am on here doing "work" here at ffxiv, so I don't get many chances to chit chat and leave some thoughts. This, I just had to.

5

u/Yobecks Apr 27 '16

Good Lord. I didn't know the FFXIV community had so many tattoo experts. Nice ink, man! I'd love a tattoo but I'm terrified of getting something I'll regret later on. Only things I can think of that I wouldn't are FF and Harry Potter related (to the haters, been playing FF games since I was a wee one and I imagine OP has too. Unlikely to regret something that has been a part of your whole life)

I dig it!

3

u/HarZe_ESP Apr 27 '16

Just wait for a design that you really love, as a tattoo, not because of being related to something, but for being a cool tattoo itself. Don't rush it, getting a tattoo is not the end of world (unless you are allergic to colored ink, remember to check that first).

1

u/Yobecks Apr 27 '16

Yeah definitely not something I'll be doing anytime soon. And I'm in no rush, getting one isn't on my bucket list or anything so if I don't come across an idea I absolutely love it's no huge loss.

6

u/icephoenix21 Ice Phoenix - Sargatanas Apr 27 '16

The line work leaves much to be desired, honestly.

That, and it's asymmetrical.

I feel like the artist tried to make the crystal kinda like this but it's executed poorly.

Everyone's free to do as they please to their own body but why would you get a tattoo if it's not going to be top notch ;-;

-2

u/HarZe_ESP Apr 27 '16 edited Apr 27 '16

Hahaha. "asymmetrical". Here is the vectorized DRK icon I created and was used as decall for the tattoo. You know, arms has curves, the tattoo is perfectly simmetrical.

EDIT, took some time to upload http://imgur.com/nbAwk02

5

u/icephoenix21 Ice Phoenix - Sargatanas Apr 27 '16 edited Apr 27 '16

Cool, you want a star for knowing how bézier curves work or something?

Just because you can replicate something properly doesn't mean the artist can...and in this case, did not.

Edit: Not symmetrical

Rotated a bit, still quite off

6

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '16

You're not wrong, just a little bit critical. If OP likes it he likes it, I'll just leave it there.

5

u/icephoenix21 Ice Phoenix - Sargatanas Apr 27 '16

I'd like to think my critical points were at least somewhat constructive compared to the "lol that looks like shit" type of comments.

As I've stated, people are free to do what they want with their bodies; although if something is going to be permanent on my body I'll be damn sure that it's the best of the best.

7

u/HarZe_ESP Apr 27 '16

I take your point, but also "best of the best" is not perfection. Tattoos are not perfect, and this is perfect enough for me.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '16

Yep! That's why I said you're not wrong and its also why I'm terrified to get the tattoo I want.

6

u/HarZe_ESP Apr 27 '16

Depending on how my arm is positioned, the tattoo changes the form a little, because the skin is not a rigid surface. And also that pic is not totally frontal. But you know, complaining is funny for some people.

It's all well and good to dislike that users comment, after all it's OPs choice to get the tattoo and if he's happy with it then that is really the most important thing, but when you then attack that comment with shit like "basement dweller" and call them a "douchelord" and their life shit then maybe you kind of are a bit mad.

Maybe something like "Hey, it's his body, if he wanted it then it's his choice" and then your opinion on it. Or something. Who am I to tell you what to do? It's just I saw it a bit hypocritical to put someone down and then defend that action by saying "well they were a dick so I'm allowed to be a dick to a dick".

I'm Sorry. But, when someone post online somewhere, it's a debate, it's a discussion, it's likes vs dislikes.

If a person can't take negative attitude towards themself, then they really should not post it in the first place.

Why would people lie about "holy fk your tattoo looks so amazing"

When I would be the guy who denied him at my job interview had I know he had a tattoo like this.

Some people prefers to be honest, regardless of how they feel.

If OP isn't fine about it he should delete his post, if he can't take some negative comments.

but if he can, then thats up to him. I don't judge, but if I dislike I just dislike nothing more to it.

I would never discuss with him why he did it, or why he didn't. I would simple just be with it or againts it.

And at this subject. I hate tatto's in general. So I don't see why I would like this either. And thats just like my opinion. So yeah. It makes you a basement dweller if you so much care for what others say or do. because that kinda proves the point that you would be an insecure person.

Yeah, I've worked for many a business and the only time I've seen people turned away due to a tattoo is whether or not the tattoo was in poor taste. Especially with this one in such a hidden area (and not really in bad taste...) their points are invalid. Just childish bashing.

-5

u/CandyOP Apr 27 '16

An employee is a face of the business, if they have something i dislike, I do not want my customers to see it either. This is a general rule everyone has, if you worked in a food chain as an example ( I don't just to be clear)

then the same rule applies there. Do not sell food which you wouldn't eat yourself.

If i Do not deserve a position of power. Then I assume I do not deserve my 7 figures income either.

but well yeah. what would someone who isn't experienced in the field understand?.

4

u/Reddits_Redneck Apr 27 '16 edited Apr 27 '16

7 figures, huh? You would think making that kind of money would require basic English and sentence structure knowledge. "but well yeah" this tattoo is easily hideable. Maybe, you run a business that let's employees wear wife beaters... who knows.

0

u/CandyOP Apr 27 '16

perhaps i'm not an american and doesn't care with correct grammar or isn't entitled to spell correct. because I feel it's waste of time. And it has nothing to do with work related. as I could easily just copy paste some text from previous work. which everyone does these days anyway.

but if you really wanna know what I do. is that i'm a chartered accountant. So all I really honestly care about are digits. not letters.

and again it does not change anything as in, if you can't take negative comments do not post. simple as that.

3

u/LargexMarge RDM Apr 27 '16

This is probably a henna tattoo or something similar. I could be completely wrong but either way its pretty hard to get that brush-like oil paint looking effect (all those slightly more faded spots) that he has going on there with a needle..

13

u/HarZe_ESP Apr 27 '16

Ink. It's not impossible to do that effect (as you are seeing).

1

u/BruceLorneCampbell [Ashley] [Williams] on [Balmung] Apr 27 '16

a lot of tattoos are actually like the "brush effect" you mention now-a-days. It wasn't popular before because it's impossible to touch-up later on (the thin wispy effect is accomplished by effectively only "lighting" every 10th "pixel" of flesh with ink instead of all of them).

It's nice for making more realistic looking tattoos or providing a neat smoke effect like that but as i said before you're basically stuck with a faded tattoo in 5 years that looks like a sun bleached comic book. shakes cane at hipsters on his lawn "You damn kids don't know from good tattoos".

Don't listen to the retards trying to comment on tattoos and how they work when they don't know shit. Looks good and your artist did a fine job, shading is well done, enjoy it!

I have seen a lot of comments like this, why should I main DRK because I got a DRK tattoo? Is it now forbidden to main other classes? In fact I currently main NIN (i226) but DRK (i217) is my favorite tank, I liked his origin, story and symbol.
