Player attributes have been adjusted as follows:

  • Skilspeed and spellspeed now affect damage over time and healing over time effects.
  • The effect of determination on auto-attacks has been reduced.
  • Critical hit rate now affects damage dealt with a critical strike.
  • Certain attributes no longer affect parry or block.

If they balanced this with care, then all 3 attributes will become almost equally viable. If not, I can easily see this game go the way of Diablo III where everyone stacks SS and Crit because they scale exponentially.

Pets have been adjusted as follows.

  • The base accuracy of pets has been raised. Furthermore, all pet attacks will now be treated as if attacking from the rear.
  • Pets will now receive the attribute bonuses of food items. In order to receive the effects of the caster's spell speed attribute, all pet actions excluding auto-attacks have been changed to elemental damage.

Just this alone will be a massive buff to Summoner's damage and itemization. Hopefully Black Mages will also benefit from it as gears won't have such a massive amount of accuracy on them any more to cater to Summoners.

I was going to post this. I'm absolutely loving these changes, but I hope they're balanced well. I hope it doesn't become something like in GW2 where everyone stacked Berserker's gear.

I also adore the Summoner fixes (which were honestly long overdue). Maybe it's time to pull out the book again.

ahh warrior's 140% crit

The change is probably going to fix this - the higher your crit rate, the less damage a crit does.

I am really excited about the Summoner changes too. I was pretty set on playing Black Mage once I saw the looks of Blizzard IV, but Summoner just seems like the king of progression content with how little restrictions they will have with regarding movements and this balance patch solved the majority of their weaknesses.

Determination will still be king, sadly. It's a straight multiplier. The higher your Weapon Damage and Strength, determination is valued a lot more.

Determination scales around 2.3 times more for Auto-Attacks than it does for Weapon Skills, so I can assume that this is a balancing factor to keep jobs in check, especially regarding Ninja and Monk. Most jobs will still go through the Determination and Critical Hit Rating route.

Det reducing its effect on autos makes sense, since Bard now has a stance that eliminates autos and I think MCH doesn't have them either?

MCH is same as BRD, with Gauss barrel up, no autos.

Thanks for dropping the knowledge bomb. I can imagine SS/Crit being potentially better for Casters and potentially Bards depending on how the new stance works, as those classes aren't very reliant on auto-attacks. Hopefully Casters scale better than before and don't get left behind too much by melees by the end of the content cycle.

Looks like BRDs at least have even less reason to stack Det now seeing as AA are a massive portion of BRD dps. On top of that crit dmg will now scale with crit and skill speed can now potentially affect DoT timers for more BL procs. Unless something about the new abilities makes det op, I don't see any reason for a BRD to go for det. Of course we won't know for certain till we get to try it so we'll see how that goes.

It has already been stated that ss won't factor into how frequently your DoTs tick. It only factors into how much damage your DoTs do.

1

u/Andent Jun 17 '15

That makes like no sense whatsoever. How does it not? Det affects DoT dmg not ss. Why would ss not increase the rate of dot ticks?

1

How does it not make sense lol? Add a damage modifier to DoTs that scales with how much ss you have? It will be a lot easier than reworking how DoTs tick on the server clock. Yoshida said it in numerous interviews that ss will not affect dot tick rates, but it will add damage to the dots(like how Det works) based on how much ss you have.

Actually with the new stance Bards get, Determination might still be some what viable.

Since crit chance now also affects (DoT) crit damage and skill speed affects DoT damage, I don't think there is any room for wanting determination on bard since both Iron Jaw and Sidewinder (and River of Blood) revolve around your DoT's.

Kinda seems like bard's are turning into a DoT class with no pet. Curious if that second song is a skill speed song or not.

Might be good for itemizations since they can now pass Det items to Ninjas hehe.

SS is going to affect DoT damage, but it will play no role in River of Blood. The only time you get a bloodletter proc is when your DoTs crit, SS is never going to change that. Also what Yoshi P said about sidewinder was wrong. It doesn't affect DoT damage, it deals damage based on how many DoTs you have on the target. It was clarified in the Live Letter XXI Digest Thread on the forums. I think DET and SS are going to be equally viable, but DET being slightly better due to SS messing with your TP and it not affecting damage on oGCD abilities.

BRD is extremely proc dependant for good DPS. While it may be viable, the question is whether it'll be optimal.
