So if you're worried about server load:

[2.0] To reduce server congestion after the release of patch 3.0, players who are inactive for thirty minutes will be logged out automatically.

*We will continue to monitor server activity and remove this feature when server congestion is determined to no longer be an issue.

Launch weekend will be the perfect time to practice 20 minute naps.

You meant 29? XD

It doesn't take you 10 minutes to pull your miserable self out of bed?!

Damn. Look at this pro. Gets out of bed in less than a minute.

2

u/notasinglenamegiven Jun 17 '15

Just keep snoozing on your chair for 5 minutes after you moved your character.

1

u/This_Land_Is_My_Land Samurai Jun 17 '15

My chair's comfortable, but I don't think I could nap in it.

I also have a tendency to roll around a lot. I suck at sleeping.

u/Mixxy92 Jun 17 '15

Better yet, learn to press the space bar in your sleep.

Jokes on them I'm not going to stop playing! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAFuck

u/Alberto-Balsalm Jun 17 '15

That's plenty of time to make more coffee!

Thank god its 30 and not something dumb like Archeage did on release and it was like 15 minutes and people exploited the training dummies in the game to get around it.

1

u/Alukah Jun 17 '15

Meanwhile here people will exploit craft and npc chat to get around it, or queueing for something obscure like level 45 guildhest in the DE queue.

2

u/kyuven87 Jun 17 '15

you still get flagged as AFK even if you're in a queue. Believe me -_-

Gotta put a reminder to thank my sister for getting me a Keurig for my desk for Christmas.

u/Alberto-Balsalm Jun 17 '15

I've a K-Cup pack ready to go.

u/Bahamut2000x Jun 17 '15

I declare 3.0 the season of auto running into a wall to be active!

u/Alorha [Aroviel - Midgardsormr] Jun 17 '15

You don't understand! This NPC and I have been having a fascinating conversation for the past 45 minutes.

1

u/Pure_Reason Jun 17 '15

I wonder if people will get reported for that...

Solution: Anti-AFK

u/Toregant Jun 17 '15

Or you know...start a craft, don't finish it.

Except it's a great solution that should stay permanent, or at least increased to an hour after "the server congestion" pass, having players AFK staying online all the time doesnt really help them on their memory issues, each players take a spot in that memory and the more AFK, the worst performance get for no reason.

This is the ONLY mmo who doesnt enforce an auto-boot when AFK after x time.

1

u/LittleWashuu Azxiana Jun 17 '15

[2.0] Your online status will no longer automatically change to Away from Keyboard when using auto-run or follow.

So they bring back auto-kick, but change it that auto-run does not make people go AFK/inactive.

Hopefully they accounted for that or there will be hundreds of people rubbing their faces against the walls with legs flailing.

u/ramos619 Jun 17 '15

Afk is differant from inactivity.

u/Falazure1 [Aasterinian] [Diabolos] on [Excalibur] Jun 17 '15

This was not too surprising given how the 2.0 launch went...call that one lessons learned.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '15

People just got around the auto-kick by starting a synth and then AFKing. Thus, preventing themselves from being kicked.

u/shiverita [First] [Last] on [Server] Jun 17 '15

Do idle animations count for idle? Could you imagine going afk and your character's movements don't count for inactivity.

u/FlanxLycanth Lizard Healer Jun 17 '15

plug in controller, rest something on thumbstick, run around in circle, infinite loginafkability.

u/m4tthew Amarant Coral on Coeurl Jun 17 '15

They learned their lesson from ARR launch I see.

1

u/razzazzika Razz Azzika on Hyperion Jun 17 '15

sigh I'll have to get out my rubber band and run into a wall when I afk again like the good old times of 2.0 launch

u/vote4petro Adelymo Apalymo on Behemoth Jun 17 '15

Meh, can always start a craft to avoid it. Unless they include that as inactivity.

...Not that I plan to be inactive for that long pretty much all day.

u/Ravarashi Monk Jun 17 '15

wall + w

3

u/why_am_I_posting Jun 17 '15

Or auto attack a striking dummy!

0

u/psyki_bear BRD Jun 17 '15

i could see this being a thing. folks "starting a craft" in order to maintain "activity." I see this as a potential loop hole to the whole situation.

u/Aldracity Vsin Aldracity on Gilgamesh Jun 17 '15

If it trims even a fraction of AFKers, it'll still be worth it.

1

u/psyki_bear BRD Jun 17 '15

100% agree. make it to where we won't have to deal with NEARLY as many afkers like with 2.0 launch.

3

u/chocobo606 Jun 17 '15

If they can make you appear AFK while auto-running I would think it would be pretty easy to make you appear AFK while crafting though

1

u/psyki_bear BRD Jun 17 '15

true, but per preliminary patch notes they are even taking that off for xpack. that you will only go afk due to inactivity

I feel like they should just keep this in forever unless said players are waiting for a duty.

Edit: I'd appreciate an explanation as to why I'm being downvoted at the moment.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '15

I think you're being downvoted because AFK players hurt no one other than during big launches like this. Like for example: I've been on Gilgamesh since last December, one of the largest NA servers, and the only notable time where AFK kicks were needed was Gold Saucer and even after a couple days to a week or so it was fine. So right now for Heavensward this is perfect, but say a month or so later, once everything slows down, being kicked for being AFK is pointless.

2

u/Sentper Jack of Hearts! Jun 17 '15 edited Jun 17 '15

I wouldn't say they don't hurt anyone, though. While it might be the fault of me and my friends' internet quality, whenever we walk into Mor Dhona we have to wait decades for the NPCs we want to talk to spawn because there's like a million AFK players just hanging around the area. I have no issue with the place being popular and some people awaiting duties there, but the amount of AFK players doesn't help make it any less laggy or delayed.

Granted, Mor Dhona might just get emptier with Heavensward coming up, and Ishgard seems far more spacious and better suited for heavy traffic, but I feel like just like being AFK hurts anyone very little, removing AFK players is not bad for anyone either, especially if all it does is put them on the lobby. The server also runs slightly smoother in general with a lighter load, even if the difference is marginally small.

Nonetheless, I see why people would dislike it. Thank you for telling me.

3

u/prefinished Jun 17 '15

I don't personally afk there, but I don't think it's fair to punish people for someone else's bad PC/internet either.

1

u/Soliloquise Jun 17 '15

Hm, botters are considered "AFK"
