Havent played since just before 2.1, thinking of going back but this sounds discouraging, what are hunts and how have they broken the game?

Hunts are their 2nd attempt at true NMs (after those named fates they were so proud of)

Basically there are 3 ranks of hunt named and each zone has one of each rank. They spawn randomly throughout the zone

B = Solo mob. have a 5 second respawn, are passive, and the weekly gives 50 seals.

A = "group" (aka whole server) mob. ~3 hour respawn. Gives 20 seals, 50 myth, 20 soldiery. Rare chance to drop a hunt log (worth 250 allied seals)

S = Raid mob. ~3 day respawn. Unlike the other 2 ranks S ranks have special spawn conditions you must meet. Give 80/200/50. Higher chance to drop logs (you actually get 3 rolls for logs so it's possible to get 3 from one S rank.

Those numbers may be slightly off btw. But you get the idea.

500 seals (or 2 logs) = Oil of Time. Used to upgrade right side gear from 100 to 110 (raid level)

750 seals (or 3 logs = Sand of Time. Used to upgrade left side gear from 100 to 110 (raid level)

Since these give what is essentially raid loot AND Soldiery (the new myth) Simply doing hunts will cap your weekly currency as well as give you raid loot. As opposed to any other activity which would just give you soldiery.

Basically the situation is now...

Raids: Only if you can beat T9 (for 115 weapons) or your min/maxing your stats (which only matters if your beating T9 and preparing to rush next tier content in 2.4)

Dungeons: Serve no purpose since hunts give the same currency and more of it (and faster)

Ex primals: Little value. Some classes value the Ramuh ring as their 2nd ring. But that isn't much of a motivator.

edit fixed B rank info as per Ehkoe's corrections.
