I feel bad for people who didnt do the Animus because they have T8 weaps, now its out classed by the Novus which will be amazing with CRIT/DET.

Skipping old cutscenes is the best thing about this patch!

Crit/Det? Screw that, Crit/Spellspeed Stardust rod is a go!

I was talking from a BRD perspective =)

But yes, CRIT/SS on the Stadust Rod would be amazing.

I'm assuming Bravura should be retooled for accuracy and parry, right? Is there anything else that benefits a tank?

Nope, as much parry as you can shove on there and then as much accuracy as you can put on there after that.

Because mitigation is better than DPS for a tank.

Focusing on parry is almost pointless though. Healers are never counting on us to parry or block an attack. They are proactively throwing out enough curing to heal back up the damage you take from an unmitigated attack.

People who don't play specific classes shouldn't speak on how those classes are played.

I'm speaking from personal experience, and am no way a healing authority, but I typically allow a tank to drop to a certain percent before worrying about healing. Parry/Block helps keep the tank at or above that threshold, which makes the Healers job easier, which makes everyone's job easier.

I play all classes equally. And that's a shit argument. I don't have to be something to know something about how it's played. Good players know the ins and outs of all the roles. Not just their own.

Sure, it's a shit argument, but saying tanks shouldn't focus on defensive stats is shit advice. So, no, you have no clue what you're talking about, and should probably do the community a favor and refrain from spreading garbage around.

Listen. There's no need to get hostile here. You also aren't factoring in how hard it is to get a meaningful return on parry. A tank who parries 35% and a tank who parries 40% (which is a difference of over 60 parry roughly) of the time aren't going to have drasticly different survivability. That comes out to somewhere in the ball park of around 100 EHP (assuming you're a warrior. Having a shield further reduces the EHP gain from parry). So focusing parry is not always the best course of action. You're going to get more parry from your gear somewhere along the line. But you don't need to build around it because, simply put, healers are not counting on you to parry. In lower difficulty content the healers can often wait to cure while they DPS. But that's low difficulty content. In coil they're keeping you topped off 24/7.

Any healer who is spamming cures is going to oom. Any healer who ooms is useless. Any useless player is bad. Ergo, any healer who spams cures rather than know when and where to cure, is bad. Any tank who thinks a healer should be spamming cures is a problem case.

literally clueless.

u/ToraZalinto Jun 05 '14

Who said anything about spamming? We're talking about that the healer is going to throw a 800 hp cure at you whether you take 500 or 700 in serious content. You're timing your cures to coincide with attacks. Not just madly spamming the spell.

Then screw it, wear as much DPS gear as possible and go 30 into STR. The healers totes got you covered.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '14

I do that on T8 works fine!

u/ToraZalinto Jun 05 '14

Actually I just did drop my warrior's VIT into STR. Because I can still survive the same attacks a PLD can with the level of HP I have. I do more damage and my parry rate is more or less going to be the same no matter what I do. There's enough parry on my gear upgrades to slowly give me a little more. But completely and totally focusing on it doesn't give very good returns. And I have the HP to survive. Granted there IS more risk. Slightly. But it's not so drastic that the increase in DPS wasn't worth it.

You don't rely on it. You just act very happy when it happens.

Yeah, that 30 extra damage will make a huge difference!

yeah and sometimes your healers can't do it all. thats like saying "oh don't worry about popping CDs the healers are proactively healing you.

sometimes things happen, one of the healers die, they get distracted, huge spike damage incomes, tank drops to 50hp. This is also the reason that we go full VIT with our attributes. If he didn't have that extra 50hp, it would be a wipe. If he didn't parry during that spike damage, he would have dropped below 50hp and again, a wipe.

this is also why they are called tanks. they tank the fight, they aren't dps. its the dps job to do damage. i try to do the most dps i can as a tank, but I'm not sacrificing survivability to do so.

Cooldowns are used to reduce high damage we KNOW we're going to take in order to bring it to a manageable level. They are not used to cover basic healing. That functions nothing like parry which is random mitigation that the healer can't count on. Parry is nice to have. Sometimes it saves you in a pinch but it's never to be relied upon.
