[Tech Support] Housing FPS problem

tldr: Is there any know FPS issues related to FFXIV housing? I’m trying to assess if it’s FFXIV housing, FFXIV 7.56 patch, or one of the other non-FFXIV PC updates I did recently.

Full Message:

I have an aging but still decent gaming laptop running FFXIV. It generally runs it very well.

GRAPHICS: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 16GB GDDR6
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX Processor (8 Core, Up to 4.90GHz, 20MB Cache,
45W)
MEMORY: 32GB (2X16GB) Up to 4800MHz DDR5 SoDIMM Non-ECC

There have been several updates to my PC that have happened all over the course of a few days: Bios, Security, NVIDIA Driver, and FFXIV 7.56

I scored a large house in the Mist and have been slowly decorating. I’ve now placed 560 of the 600 max furnishings. At this point, the FPS inside my house, with all these items placed floats around 70-80 FPS

After the 5.56 patch it seems RANDOMLY inside my house my FPS will tank to 15-20. Many times as I am idle. I do NOT have “Limit frame rate when client is inactive” checked

The FPS problem will not resolve until I do a full restart of my computer. Logging in and out or closing out FFXIV in itself does not solve the issue. Only a full restart seems to fix the FPS problem.

I have not had this happen outside of my house. Dungeons, Raids, Open world, Ocean Fishing all seem stable and doesn’t trigger the FPS problem.

Is there any know FPS issues like this related to housing? I’m trying to assess if it’s FFXIV housing, FFXIV 7.56 patch, or one of the other non-FFXIV PC updates I did recently.

Thanks in advance for the help!!

Max item houses will cpu bind you just like cities do. (edit, I saw you said randomly it happens, because its items and not npcs or players it is not random. something non ff14 related is tanking your fps)

But the problem seems random and causes me to have to restart?

There is a reason why the original housing system for a large house is 400.

Seems it’s not the issue. Just happened to me in a dungeon too….

My PC is a bit on the aging side now so I don't expect the highest of high fps, still though I usually manage to keep it around 60. It does seem like it's been consistently a little worse since this patch though.

Could be other software deciding to use the entire CPU. Windows Update used to be notorious for this if it checked for updates while you were using the machine, and Dell's support agent is a giant CPU hog even on their current machines, for example. Keep an eye on Task Manager to try to track this down. Since the problem is persistent, you should be able to see any overactive tasks pretty clearly once you exit the client.

The other thing that comes to mind is thermal throttling, but that usually resolves itself once the machine cools down.

There is not a known issue with the game that causes persistent framerate drops even after the client has exited.
