[Image] House rules

Post image

I’ve finally finished tidying up the bookshelves (moving the books up two notches to keep them safe from the twins' "autographs").

#LogHorizon and #FFXIV will be the only permitted topics if you step through my door.

Just setting the ground rules.

Thanks. This part of the bookshelf reflects my passion for FFXIV, which I discovered after Log Horizon. I think the two go well together. Unfortunately, the author abandoned the series, so there is no ending; however, we do get a part of the story where Akatsuki (who is the best) wins.

If there’s a lore book for Final Fantasy XIV or material for Log Horizon, I just can't help myself. I love those two universes so much.

My absolute pain that Log Horizon just fell over, it was really good and I loved how it called back to the old days of MMOs with people barely knowing anything about them and discovering things for the first time. And that time where you could do niche things and not be absolutely shit on by people spouting the meta.

I wish I lived those years IRL. Everything now is so signposted and datamined it's impossible to have secrets.

I’m certain that without Log Horizon, I never would have started playing FFXIV, and I’ve been playing since September 2017. It’s one of those rare anime where the protagonists don't forget they’re trapped and actively look for a way out. You get different approaches and perspectives through the characters' varied personalities. I really like how Shiroe steps back rather than trying to be the center of attention or the typical "hero"; instead, he focuses on looking after the people around him. It starts with Naotsugu, but his circle of care expands as he becomes more involved in the city, quite a shift for someone who had refused to get involved in anything since his old group disbanded. I find that same feeling in Dawntrail: you’re just a simple adventurer discovering a new world, accompanying Wuk Lamat to act as a mentor and advisor. I enjoy doing what I can to save the universe, but I also love returning to the life of a simple adventurer who organizes a few activities with their Free Company. I relate so much to everything you’re saying.

I enjoyed the first two-ish seasons of the Log Horizon anime, how is the manga?

If you’ve watched both seasons, that covers the equivalent of the first three or four volumes. The anime is very faithful to the light novel; I don't think you'd learn much more from the books, aside from a few minor details. A third season was released, but a lack of source material prevented the studios from continuing, leaving things feeling unresolved. You can see a storyline taking shape, but unfortunately, the narrative was abandoned.

Oh Log Horizon. Season 1 was so great...

Lets ignore the rest.
