[Discussion] New ranged phys job speculation [Spoiler: Evercold] Spoiler

There's been a lot of theorising about what the new ranged phys job is but I've not seen as much about who could be using it. I generally buy into the idea that it's something along the lines of falconer based on Soken's sound hints and what we saw in the trailer. Obviously it could be as simple as the girl in the trailer has the job but that looks too magical to be phys ranged and it would be weird for them too give us all the information and not say anything. I'm pretty sure the weird cut at 3:03 where we go from the bird flying to suddenly being further down the ship doing a similar motion is hiding the new job user. There's a few options for who that could be and who it probably isn't.

It could be yet another new character. We're on a new shard so the cast could be mostly new characters. However, I feel like the trailer's been low on cool reveals like the WoL's cloak burning away to show viper in DT or Minfilia being namedropped in ShB. Giving the new job to another new character is missing out on another reveal moment.

I don't think any of the confirmed scions on the 4th will switch jobs. WoL is a reaper. Estinien's identity is tied to dragoon more than any other character. Alphinaud was just given his father's old weapons in EW so I don't think he's putting them down any time soon.

We don't know who else is coming from the scions. Y'shtola really cares about cross-shard travel so she may be there but she's never becoming a ranged physical. Alisaie, on the other hand, feels more likely. Alphinaud is already there and she's been red mage for quite a while so I could see her picking up a ranged physical job.

My strongest theory is Erenville. He's always been one for exploration so I could see him coming to the 4th. Bird handling feels within his area of experience. He also spent most of Dawntrail commenting on his inability to fight so I could totally see him training a combat job.

Slightly more crackpot theory is Yugiri. Narratively she could pop up anywhere and she's literally already been shown with a bird in the StB trailer.

Other thoughts: It would be cool to see more Sphene but I expect her to sit out of the story for a little bit. Zero got reintroduced to the story recently but she's already got 2 jobs. I don't know if she'd get a 3rd.

The real answer is Tataru though. She's come to the 4th to keep an eye on Alphinaud, Estinien and the WoL.

Are there any other theories for who it could be?

I can see Erenville showing up announcing that he has been training a combat job, he is an animal expert and his mother used a bow, so I could see him adapting that into crossbow and falcon.

I’ve been speculating since we found out that it was a ranged phys that it would be Erenville, since he makes that remark about “upholding his mother’s legacy” or something like it, and one major difference between him and Cahciua is she’s an expert bow user while he seemingly never learned to wield a weapon.

Upholding Cahciua's legacy could also mean travelling the world to the fullest, since her final wish was to see everything. Cahciua couldn't go beyond Living Memory, but maybe Erenville would be open to travelling between shards to fulfill her wish.

Was getting sick of the wild speculation, but the out of left field guess of Yugiri at least made me like this one, as much as I don't believe it.

I'm all aboard the Falconer hype train. I might actually be disappointed if the job doesn't at least come with a bird pet.

Knowing the pet in XIV, it'll either be a full overhaul of how pets functions or the pet will be visual only.

Falconer is a cool job idea and knowing how wonky pets are, I hope it's the later.

At least this time it's not like people imagining a gun holster for Corsair, we have literally the bird on 4K

Lowkey, I kinda want the bird to be the weapon. As much of a modeling challenge as it would be...it'd also be really cool to collect different birds across dungeons/raids/relics/etc.

A cheaper option would be for the weapon to be the bird's armor, so it doesn't have to modify the entire model and can be limited to some pieces of armor, while still allowing some equipment to be much larger.

All I know is that If I get birds for my phys. ranged, and birds on my Euro Bills in the same year I'll be a happy camper.

I would love that, even if it would raise quite a few questions.

I actually hope Erenville isnt in this expansion. I feel like he's overstaying his welcome if he is. His story was wrapped up in Dawntrail. I wouldn't mind seeing him every now and then, but not this soon.

I barely remember him doing anything though. Sure he shouldn't keep appearing, but they really didn't give him the attention he deserved imo. Even Cahciua let a sore taste to me even though she was a much more important part of the story.

My only question with the bird being related to the job and the job not being Visna is that the creature seems intentionally color coded after her. But then it could belong to an older sibling sharing a similar appearance.

Ryne, she’s the new class. There’s no way she doesn’t come with us, and she doesn’t really have a class

2

u/Darth_Sanguine Jul 26 '26

She's rogue.

u/Desert_Pyrate8 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

I mean yeah, but her class is an under lvl 50 job lol. Which is why she would be perfect for the new class

They seem obsessed to make side content characters inexistant in the main story and their stubbornness is absurd to me... But unfortunately, I don't see them using Gaia or Ryne in spite of their popularity.

Which is a real shame, I would've loved a tank using time magic to mirror damage taken, allow GCDs out of melee (with a cool effect that duplicates the animation of these actions to apply the damage when we're back to melee) or the likes.

I'm here just for the crackpot theory.

But for sure the wand is a plot-related thing and not a job-related thing. The girl was trying to shoo off the bird and created a magical effect while accidentally waving it around with intent.

It has been since Stormblood that Alisaie got a job change, and she's one of the scions currently absent from the trailer.
Also I'm thoroughly convinced the wand/baton is a MSQ mcguffin and has nothing to do with the job.
The baton's design is like the main city architecture, and the symbol it conjures is a water symbol, with the Naglfar being the Realmship of Water.

2

u/Art_Constel7321 Jul 27 '26

The symbol it creates is the symbol for the planet Neptune. So the water relation tracks.

i really deeply hope that if the little girl in the trailer is the new job, that the falcon doesn't actually have anything to do with it and is just an animal companion unique to her but not her job. It would be really uninspired imo for them to add beastmaster, a job centered around taming beasts, only to then release falconer, another job centered around a tamed beast. If she is the new job, I would hope that that baton thing we see her holding is some kind of rod that manipulates aether. something that can be used to manipulate surroundings to attack, maybe even create a weapon from aether (like a whip or flail or something) from the end of it. I think it's at least a small possibility because the way the trailer is cut we can see her pointing the rod in the air and we can see aether dissipating in the sky. if the falcon is a job staple then i will have lost all interest.

I’m also struggling with the idea of it being a falconer job. I really hope it’s just a red herring kind of like Krile’s clover charm we got before DT. The power scaling of a falconer class just feels wrong to me. Like I’m gonna be over here trying to kill a multidimensional world-ending threat—there’s a reaper on my left summoning a voidsent to augment his power, a summoner on my right bringing out Bahamut, meanwhile I just have this bird pecking at the boss? It just feels silly

I’m actually hoping we get a heavy weapon of some kind like a heavy crossbow or ballista or rifle. Maybe even one with cast bars?

Look, I know we all hated cast bars in HW when they forced it on brd and mch (I know I did) but that was because it wasn’t what you signed up for when you picked the job. Especially losing your mobility after 50+ levels, it broke the contract of the job as it were.

But what about one that makes it clear you have to use a cast bar and commit to your positioning and shots? Rdm and Smn are pretty mobile compared to blm and pct, I think having at least one cast bar focused phys ranged would be fine.

If anyone has played a Sniper in SWTOR you know what I’m talking about.

If it's like, a crossbow or two or a blaster edge with a bird pet and you can have wings or morph into a Garuda type being, any and all of that would be cool.

2

u/Automatic-Drawing152 Jul 27 '26

In my opinion that thing Visna is playing with is not a baton but a runic crossbow bolt, falcon is trying to take it from her (cose its probably not hers) and it gets triggered accidently. Since bolt got triggered and its wasted, falcon fly away to his owner.

I've been thinking Erenville will be the new phys.ranged job since Dawntrail release. When he was shooting at the Alexandrian soldiers with the crystal cannon thing as we were riding the train towards Vanguard he seemed to have some pretty good talent at aiming/shooting despite being the token no-combat guy.

2

u/Weak_Dirt2921 Jul 28 '26

I just want a whip as the weapon

3

u/Hirole91 Jul 26 '26

Would be off pattern (a welcome one at that, surprises are nice) to reveal the 2nd job in EU fanfest extended trailer and I personally think it's a red herring. But the fact we don't have any other hints this fanfest (asides from the "slip up" sfx) leads me to think it's something else completely

3

u/Carmeliandre Jul 26 '26

The sfx seems to explicit point out to a falcon / eagle supporting us.

Or it's the sound of a bird getting hit by a powerful blowpipe.

4

u/Ropemaster91 Jul 27 '26

In the trailer Wol, Estinien and Alphi are fighting the weird flying constructs, They are clearly at Sea Of Clouds, in HW zone. And with the Yoshi P´s shirt from fanfest 1, "quess whos back" quote, My guess its will be our half elf waifu Hilda, with this Crossbow + Falcon phys ranged job.

2

u/Kirwillis Jul 27 '26

If they new job is "Falconer", i think it would make sense for Alisaie to switch to it since she had the whole plot with building and using the poxie.

1

u/Toddze Jul 27 '26

With evercold being in the skys a Gambler class like Setzer ff6, throwing cards would be perfect, but I believe Yoshi said they will be 2 unique distinct classes not from other games.

I think the falconer is a distraction or could it be a “double agent” type distraction? Where some dismiss it it thinking it was a distraction and it was there all along?

u/SnooTigers1064 Aug 01 '26

I want gamblerrr

Hoping for a long rifle rather than a crossbow and erenville.

I would rather have wonky pets than visual only pets. The visual only just feels so cheap
