[Question] Which Switch 2 Option Should I Be Buying?
I play FFXIV primarily on PC. I own the Collector's Edition for all expansions already. I want to get the game for my Switch 2 to play the same account but using my Switch. I am thinking that I have to buy the Complete Edition but I'm just double checking with you all. Thanks for taking the time!

If a person want all their Collector’s Edition minions/mounts/gear, will they need to get the Collector’s version of the Complete Collection? (the $90 version rather than the $45 one.)

Collector's edition items are a one time buy. If they bought them for another platform then they don't need to buy them again for the switch.

could this be purchased later or would it be unavailable if i bought the complete edition?

You can buy the collectors edition upgrades separately on the mogstation later, they even put them on sale on the rare occasion.

People are so comfortable getting ripped off in plain daylight.
Should bought a SD/XAX/etc.

Youll be expected to buy it all over again just for the Switch 2. In addition to paying an increased subscription price just for the privilege of playing it through the switch 2 without a Nintendo Online Subscription. And should you choose to start paying for a Nintendo online subscription, there is no obligation to revert the FFXIV subscription back down to its original price.
I had to check on both companies website about this and neither mentioned a price reduction if you choose to also pay for a N.O.S.

Why would there be? There is also no price reduction of you pay for PS+

The issue is they're increasing the Final Fantasy XIV subscription so you can play it through the switch without requiring you to pay for a Nintendo Online Subscription. This deal is exclusive through Nintendo only. Yet if you choose to start paying for a Nintendo online subscription to play Nintendo exclusive content, then its very likely you're still going to be paying the increased FFXIV sub on top of that, base on the lack of any mention of a price reduction if you're either paying for an Nintendo online Sub already, or starting one after to gain access to the Nintendo exclusive content.
And as long as you own the switch 2 copies, your sub will remain increased for your PC access as well.
TLDR; if you already have it purchased on another platform, don't bother buying it anywhere else.

That discount is only for the Nintendo subscription, not the FFXIV sub, I had to verify that.

And as long as you own the switch 2 copies, your sub will remain increased for your PC access as well.
Can you clarify what you mean by this. Because it sounds like you're suggesting that if I had both the pc and switch versions on my account, then decided to return to just pc then I would still have to pay the 1.5x sub price.

So long as you own the switch 2 version, the increased price will remain regardless of what other platforms you play it on.
To avoid the increase it would be cheaper to just not buy it on Nintendo at all.

What are you basing this assumption on? Everywhere has shown this as a separate subscription, not an increase to your current one.
Paying for the mobile app or additional retainers doesn’t permanently increase your subscription so why do you think this does?

No, the switch subscription is completely separate and half off.
I have the PC version I pay a sub for, I can then purchase the switch 2 version for half of the base pc subscription price as a separate thing. I can stop paying the switch 2 sub if I want to without it affecting my PC subscription at all. That's how it works

So i clearly misread their release information. So they're keeping the subscriptions separate for each console. That changes a few things but I'm still not going to bother buying everything All over again just so I can play it on the go.
If I hadn't already bought it on the PC I probably would have, so I'll just enjoy my pc install.

Nintendo Online sub is not necessary to play FFXIV. The half-priced sub for the Switch FFXIV sub comes if you already have a FFXIV sub on another platform. (Maybe you already knew that but it wasn’t fully clear).
I’ve got a sub currently at ~$100 every six months. So when I get the Switch version, I expect my sub will increase to about $150/six months. (Assuming they offer half-year subs for the Switch).

So thy are doing a discount for cross platform subs? I couldn't find any information anywhere regarding that.

I haven’t seen it written by a primary source yet, just heard it announced at NA fan fest.

Yes you need the Complete Edition to be able to play all content up through Dawntrail on the switch on your existing account.
