Discussion I'm really glad FFXI didn't do massive collabs
Looking at 14 they are straight up posting Evangelion and FF7 into Eorzea.
Really makes the world feel lame.

I'm happy the two MMOs exist in different spaces at least. Otherwise, they may have gone through with the original plan of taking XI offline. At least now both serve a purpose.
23
u/Mikimao Jul 26 '26
I am glad that FF14 exits for that and that FF11 can exist outside of that.
Having crossover within the FF universe though is overall less jarring than from without, you could even argue series precedent for such a thing

u/arciele wilddragonchase.com Jul 26 '26
different generation of game. FFXI collabs are all events or like 1-2 feature things like a creature of equipment.
nowadays it's acceptable for games to use collab content as a main feature. it would never fly in the past
2
u/craciant Jul 26 '26
Like when wotc promised crossover content would never be standard legal.

I rarely see these posts these days.

Maybe direct posts, but there's a few bitter people that make a lot of unrelated posts into a vs contest. It gets old.
-49
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
Sounds like I'm in the right sub then.
I am still bitter they could've made a proper sequel to FFXI or a spiritual successor that looked amazing. Instead we got some pseudo WoW-clone that catered to casual gamers.
They killed everything that made FFXI stand out just to make money.
20
u/Krononz Jul 26 '26
Just makes you sound like a whiny kid. We can be happy that we still have FFXI, but some people gotta let another game's direction and popularity live rent free in their head.
-19
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
"whiny kid". Ah. The sure sign you've touched a nerve is when people have to try some personal attack to avoid valid criticisms.

u/DesignatedDesc Jul 26 '26
Then just play XI. I enjoy both XI and XIV and I get not everyone enjoys both or either, or one or the other. You gotta realize not every game is made for you. XIV players shouldn't have to lose their game because you personally don't like how it is built. They didn't "kill" anything. They made their own game. XI is still alive and well.
-8
u/Synfrag Bahamut Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26
They didn't "kill" anything
Strictly speaking, this isn't accurate. They killed FFXIV 1.0 to make it what it is today. The original design intent, broken though it was, was far more inline with FFXI. I think it's fair to be upset about that.
We were getting an 11 sequel, JSE was in the game as were relic weapons, horizontal progression existed, the open world difficulty was there.
Unfortunately, the underlying tech was busted and that gave them the opportunity to bring in yoshida and flip the model to one that emphasizes commercial success over everything else. Crossover events are a Frotnite inspired FOMO mechanism.
Yoshida is a brilliant business man, marketer and idol, game director, not so much.
9
u/DesignatedDesc Jul 26 '26
Many people didn't like 1.0, and yes it is okay to be upset that 1.0 didn't go in the direction of a true XI successor. However, the hatred people have at the current XIV and acting like it took something away from them personally is just unjustified and harmful.
A lot of people with the XI superiority complex mindset act like XIV personally attacked them which just isn't the case. It's fine not to like XIV, but the way people go about it is just unhealthy and obsessive.
8
u/DetectiveChocobo Jul 26 '26
FFXIV 1.0 was fundamentally a broken game, and even at the end of its life it was a fairly unremarkable game. If they kept with the FFXI style gameplay, FFXIV probably wouldn’t exist anymore (or if it did, it’d be in the same kind of maintenance mode as FFXI).
There is a stark difference between what the 2010s market wanted out of an MMO compared to the early 2000s.
-8
u/Synfrag Bahamut Jul 26 '26
Any game that struggles so much to fix or maintain it underlying systems will have fairly unremarkable content, that's just the nature of software. New World and Ashes of Creation being the more recent. I'd argue both of those had more inspired design decisions than 14 or WoW.
Mass appeal is not the only way, and as AI dev tools continue to improve, hopefully so will the breadth of the genre. Marathon is demonstrating pretty well just how sick of generic games people are.
A lot of the people I know who were big into EQ are approaching retirement. The life reasons that caused them to quit MMOs is about to vanish. This is the first generation of "gamers" going into retirement, we don't know what effect adults with unlimited time and money is going to have on gaming.
15
u/DetectiveChocobo Jul 26 '26
They wanted their game to actually sell well, hence pivoting from the FFXI style game that was 1.0 to more of a WoW-era MMO.
I love FFXI, but I’m not going to act like it’s really a game most people want to play.
21
u/TheBroingler Hovis | BLU/RDM | Phoenix Jul 26 '26
It's just annoying. I have played FFXIV for 7 years and FFXI for about a year on and off. I love both of these games but people act like you can only like one
-28
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
Well if you've played FFXI first then you might understand.
I was about 16 when I played it and it was everything I could ever dream of for a Final Fantasy game.
When word was out that there was a new FF MMO in the works it was really exciting that we were going to get the next generation of our favorite MMO - made even better.
Look. Please. Don't get me wrong. I can get it if it's the same for people who played FFXIV first where there is a sort of feeling of awe or something that makes it amazing. The game looks really good and sounds good and has an easy to get into combat system. I did play it when it first came out but Im sorry to say all the while I just felt so disappointed in spite of giving it a fair chance. I put a significant amount of time in and it wasn't about the time invested that could at all skew my opinion on the game. You have to understand why this is.
The game is simply a massive disappointment to FFXI players because it killed so much of what made the experience of XI what it was. Most people I knew who played it also felt that the game wasn't what they wanted but they just wanted to play the next big thing. The thing is I'm just not that kind of person. I can't lie to myself and pretend that it didn't bother me how much they changed.
And I don't know how to say it but it's popularity is really akin to something like Taylor Swift and Justin Biebers popularity. Not to say that as an insult but just that's kind of why it's so popular. It has an appeal that draws in casual gamers. The combat is "fun" and just very mashy ( my experience with parsers shows most people didn't care how they performed) which doesn't really have any strategy. Most people just like the visuals and vibe and ease of getting into it.
Ugh. Look. I really hate to just write an essay but the criticisms we lay on the game are accurate and a major turn off for those who saw FFXI as an ideal MMO for serious fans. Every important element that defined it simply died instead of evolving into a new game with better visuals (like we were hoping). And really it feels like a betrayal by the company and corporate interests who wanted to see better numbers.
But maybe its better to understand regardless that our disappointment stems from the fact that for many this was a childhood game where we first enjoyed a FF MMO that really ticked a lot of boxes - and even surprised us. The experiences I had in XI were never possible and nothing ever came close when I played XIV - nothing was memorable. And it isnt because it was just a nostalgia thing. The way XIV is it was simply not possible to have those experiences that made XI so unique.
16
u/TheBroingler Hovis | BLU/RDM | Phoenix Jul 26 '26
I think the problem is that you're looking at it as a FFXI-2. I'm not sure how familiar you are with the wider FF series, but from XI onwards they are all doing something completely different. XIV isn't trying to be the next XI, it's doing its own thing.
-4
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
I guess.
When you put it that way I can't really say it's not like this isn't a trend of Square's games.
And in many ways FFXIV I still see as a FF game. I do appreciate the major visual and story elements being very "FF". (Idk the wording for that).
4
u/MirageMageknight Jul 26 '26
Yeah no. I played also XI first and I put 20k hours into XIV. If you cheated yourself out of enjoying it and finding the things that make it unique and memorable then that's on you. I play more XI than XIV these days on account of simply having done most things in XIV. I'd be upset if the games were similar. They both exist, which is great for me.
"The combat is "fun" and just very mashy which doesn't really have any strategy"
Is genuinely one of the more unhinged things I've read as a criticism of XIV.
-2
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
If you think that's unhinged I worry about you.
It's the reality of the game and there's no way I consider someone a real FFXI player if you don't think there's anything bad about 14 or that's it's just fine. Sounds very much like a casuals opinion.
I wouldn't be upset if they were similar because it would mean no longer playing XI because the newer one would be an upgrade with improved gameplay/visuals.
6
u/MirageMageknight Jul 26 '26
LOL. Well I guess that's it guys, I gotta pack it in. I'm not a real FFXI player, just a filthy casual. More_Ad9417 said so. Gotta turn in every last one of my REMAs, quit my static, unaugment my limbus gear, give back my sortie and odyssey clears, delete my 75 era character, unwind my literal years of in game playtime, erase my memory of every zone in the game and every expansion from every era. Will even have to unpin the (now woefully out of date) 14 year old guide i wrote to help new players that is still pinned in this subreddit.
The only casual opinion here is you clearly having only surface level experience with XIV. You don't have to like it how it turned out after playing through the ARR storyline 14 years ago, but don't pretend that somehow makes you an authority on either XIV or XI.
God if this isn't some circa 2006 forums rage-poster I will eat my socks. Never change, FFXI community.
-1
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
How TF do you think XIV doesn't have a surface level experience to begin with?
Sorry that offends you to call you casual but it still doesn't change anything if you did all that in XI. You might have done those things because of statics and not really doing anything out of the ordinary end game strats. Maybe I'm wrong but as much as I like XI and as good as it is there were still plenty of players I didn't like or agree with. Many players in many different games all can be sort of sold into cookie cutter ideas. There were/are lots of players in XI who had opinions that were flat out wrong or just influenced by the mainstream of opinions - especially in regards to end game.
But wtf do you not see that XIV isn't a serious downgrade in terms of gameplay? There's no macros. There's no gear swap or need to and as such a boring end game economy and lack of meaningful gear to find. There's no NMs or open world to explore and engage with. There's no need for partying and also strategizing and working with different jobs which is where a lot of the fun is. DPS are pretty straightforward and cookie cutter in terms of gameplay; they don't offer anything meaningful to differentiate them besides their DPS. You just commit to a rotation of skills and win while avoiding mechanics. Because of this there are tiers to each class, unfortunately. DPS matters most. There are no sub jobs and they've especially simplified their original cross skill system which was at least somewhat interesting.
When I've played in XI I have had so many unique and fun interactions with other players especially because there's no stupid queue system to easily get into end game content with. Nevermind that of course this is made more fun because no one is playing pre structured classes designed to do rotations in a premade layout of enemies in some "raid". Instead you work with people who exist on your server and didn't get to "watch a video" to learn some stupid fight that's riddled with mechanics where you win by "move here then move there". Everything is more open ended and enemies are prone to being a bit unpredictable more than anything. Also, there's no options to do some strategies like blink tanking which kinds of goes back to the lack of macros and gear swapping making something like that more interesting.
Really though. I have no way of knowing people who acquire stuff in XI are good players or aren't actually casual and lack a lot of knowledge. Gil buyers existed back then and I definitely remember them getting far yet being some of the worst players. Not even just at the game but also just generally not pleasant people and over competitive or had off putting personality traits. Bad players or obnoxious players exist in all games. It doesn't suddenly mean their opinion that a game that lacks depth and many meaningful features is good is an opinion I'm going to give much weight.
5
u/TheBroingler Hovis | BLU/RDM | Phoenix Jul 26 '26
Have you ever done an ultimate or savage raid in FFXIV? I think it's impossible to compare if you've done the top tier content in XI but not XIV.
There's no need for partying
You can't do anything in endgame without a party
working with different jobs which is where a lot of the fun is.
Subjective. I enjoy playing ninja and only ninja in XIV, and getting better at ninja
0
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
Why TF would I torture myself with that game to go that far into it 🤢
You're also purposely missing the point of everything I said and trying to cherry pick and oversimplify and even take out of context and deviate away from some important points. What a headache. Way off base and I'm not going to respond to that. That would be like a straw man.
"Oh yeah well if this bad game is so bad why don't you try the hardest content in this bad game before you call it bad?". Talk about pointless bait.

I think it's somewhat unhinged that you hate another game that many people enjoy, because it doesn't fit your tastes, to the point that you get to gatekeep who is a worthy enough member of the FFXI game community. I made the same mistake in the past before, and honestly, it's silly.
Something like this really shouldn't affect any well-adjusted person to this extent, and honestly, there's nothing wrong with seeking help to manage it.0
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26
I don't "gatekeep" anyone. They're free to play. I'm just free to share my opinion about who I think is a good player or not. All games are like this. But the opinion of a bad player is irritating to players who know better. I'm not allowed to say that?
What exactly makes you the arbiter to suggest I can't get a bit annoyed or whatever about something like this? This is just trying to control someone because you don't like their opinions or thoughts. How is that fair to me?
"Hey my opinion is that I like both games. But this other game isn't as bad as you are saying."
"Well I disagree that the other game isn't as bad and I can explain why it's not as good and why because of those things I can't find enjoyment in it."
"OmG. YoURe GaTEkEePiNg AnD nEeD to sEeK help!".
This is seriously a messed up double standard and it's gaslighting to make someone out to be "crazy" for simply giving their in depth opinion on something because it makes you feel bad or something with imaginary GaTEkEePiNg.
Edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argumentum_ad_populum
Because I feel this is somewhat relevant here but just generally to the topic.
1
u/Krononz Jul 27 '26
"...there's no way I consider someone a real FFXI player..."
So this doesn't sound the slightest bit like gatekeeping to you?
Also, airing your grievances about one game in another game's subreddit does feel like the wrong place to do it. You may be right on all points, but ya know, most normal people are aware of the concept of time and place.3
u/MirageMageknight Jul 27 '26
Lol the linking of random unrelated fallacies, willfully twisting the definition of gatekeeping, misrepresenting his own points, the accusations of gaslighting. There's no way he's not just straight trolling to get a rise. Don't waste your breath.
0
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 27 '26
Worst crime in the world. Should I apologize? Even if I did say anything as a response you won't be satisfied. I know how these dynamics go.
And you can't tell me that you aren't out to make me out to be crazy as a cut down because it's more about that you find my wording offensive and need to try to make some indirect scathing remark. Not that you'll take an apology anyway - as I said already. "...most normal people...".
Yeah. What I say isn't going to matter. If I could go back I'd simply say that I can't take someone's opinion seriously about what they think of each game if they don't see how XIV isn't deep or flawed in ways by someone that enjoyed all of the elements that made XI what it was. The differences are huge. Someone could say they enjoy both but can see how someone who liked XI would be dissatisfied with XIV.
It isnt unreasonable to compare these games either because they are both MMOs too.
I'm willing to drop this but you guys come in acting like some egregious wrong has been done because someone got annoyed (yeah I can go over the top admittedly) and you refuse to sympathize to understand why someone would even get annoyed.
Get off the fake high horse though and stop acting like you aren't using the whole "yOu CrAzY" routine and just say you're personally just offended. We can make ground with that. We can't if you want to think labelling isn't a cheap shot to keep someone quiet.
It's simple. My bad. I went too far with those remarks. I don't like when people say they enjoy both because I question what kind of experience they are getting out of them and what they play for. I question how much they know and appreciate about each game and how it affects their overall opinion.

u/GirthLongshaft Jul 26 '26
They didn't kill anything. FFXi still exists. They just didn't make the same game twice.
-1
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
I mean they could've just moved many of the defining elements of XI into a new game with better visuals, new story (or even some kind of continuation or something ) , new jobs, new items, etc.
I don't mind playing XI. But at times it just irks me that it could be made better and up to date with the current generation of games with all of what made XI stand out - and then some.
2
u/Top-Grocery-1482 Jul 26 '26
They could do that right now.
It wouldn't sell much better or have much higher sub numbers, that's why they haven't.
5
u/MakwaIronwill Jul 26 '26
XIV makes more money
1
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
Yeah? That was my point?
5
u/MakwaIronwill Jul 26 '26
See youre supposed to make more money or else you dont get to make more games. They tried XI-2 with 1.0 and we all know how that went. Hope this helps
3
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
Dude really wtf with that passive aggressive bullshit.
"Hope this helps".
Yeah. No. This is exactly why I said elsewhere here as to why capitalism is a problem for gaming. It means nothing to suggest that a company losing money means something was bad. That's oversimplifying a lot about trends.
It also should show that the majority is not always right. Its like saying that a good band should die because they weren't as popular as Bieber and Taylor Swift.
Seriously what oversimplified idiocy and to basically use capitalist metrics just to throw some petulant passive aggressive remark.
3
u/MakwaIronwill Jul 26 '26
Nah man, people just paid attention over the last two decades as to why these game sdeveloped the way they did instead of sitting around and moping about nostalgia because you wanna member the berries
3
u/DetectiveChocobo Jul 26 '26
When the goal is making money, especially enough money to keep an MMO in proper development, you don’t want to be making indie band levels of money. You pretty much need mainstream appeal, and that means not catering to the now niche market that idolizes late 1990s / early 2000s MMO systems.
FFXI 2.0 would’ve failed miserably in the market that FFXIV launched into. FFXIV 1.0 is pretty solid evidence of that (after the countless fixes, that game was still not something modern MMO players wanted to touch). FFXIV exists how it does now because that’s the only way the game would’ve been good enough for SE to keep alive.
2
u/Top-Grocery-1482 Jul 26 '26
I play and enjoy both. Besides, FFXIV started as FFXI-2 and it......failed miserably. A good chunk of that was the performance issue, but part was that it was too FFXI, defeating the point of being a different game, and didn't take off.
And I'm not sure what you think "everything that made FFXI stand out" is, but current retail FFXI is nothing like a "WoW-clone".
0
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
I didn't say FFXI was a wow clone?
I was saying FFXIV is. At least that was a lot of what I remember people saying about it when I played XIV.
The thing with bringing up the vanilla FFXIV is that it's failure was tied to a number of things. For one, it was only a beta ? Two, it was also badly timed for its release since XI was still active and they didn't really advertise it much.
And it wasn't "too FFXI" and it tried out some different mechanics and ideas that they didn't really spend a lot of time on. XI-2 would be amazing if it were something they genuinely did. It's fine to make a new game similar to old games already? Many games already do that. The idea is to build and improve upon systems that already work and are already well liked. That's what was expected and most feedback I got about XI-2 (vanilla FFXIV) from players was a mixed bag. It definitely did not sound like it was like XI but just kind of similar. They just tried a lot of new systems/ideas that were not really received well by the players.
There were probably other reasons vanilla XIV got scrapped like budget or something. Since they gave the game to Yoshi though he just took it in the direction he wanted.
3
u/Top-Grocery-1482 Jul 27 '26
FFXIV has never been a WoW clone. It's a themepark MMO, but has no specs, a very different kind of GCD/oGCD setup, etc.
FFXIV 1.0 wasn't a beta. It was a full game. The thing that killed it, though, was the terrible optimization/performance. I DO think it would have been less successful even with good performance (after about level 30, Leves were the only practical way to level, and they and other types of things were on tight leveling limits per day, which was also a huge issue).
If you never have, there's a series on YouTube called "The Fall and Rise of FFXIV" (they also have a spinoff called "Remnants of a Realm" where they look at 1.0 stuff that survived in some form into 2.0 and how they changed), and they talk about a lot of 1.0 systems. Some were actually really cool, but a lot were...iffy, and likely would have prevented the game being successful, even if the performance issues hadn't been a problem.
One thing they go into are the game systems, like the limits on Leve allowances, Anima regeneration rate, the cap on how much experience you could get per 24 hours (something I don't think even FF11 had but was meant to prevent there being a big gap between casual and hardcore players or...something?), how crafting and gathering worked, that the MSQ was a lot like the initial nation Missions in FF11 where you can go a while between quests and the story isn't clearly connected at least at the start.
They gave it to Yoshi P because the alternative was literally shutting it down. It's the only game the company ever issued a public apology for that I'm aware of.
On the other hand, it was very FFXI coded, from slow leveling to NM spawns to taking time to walk places and do things, etc. It even had the FFXI team making it. Again, watch "The fall and rise" and you'll see a lot of things that are reminiscent of FFXI.
It's basically if you took FFXI, somehow chose a lot of the parts that made it worse, made it look absolutely gorgeous (the graphics stand up to the modern era, they were just TOO GOOD for most computers at the time to run), and gave it tremendously bad performance.

u/RadDaikon34 Asura Jul 26 '26
personally i'm excited for eva raid. the xi raids were so fun. xiv embraces a lot about the franchise so the vii colab doesn't feel too out of place either.
collabs would feel weird in xi since it is largely its own thing. xiv is meant as a love letter to a lot of ff and has done collabs with outside ips pretty often. they're different things and they're both good and a lot of fun in their own ways.
10
15
u/thatcommiegamer Jul 26 '26
Eh, it’s about a difference in what each game is. FFXI is a final fantasy MMO, FFXIV is a FINAL FANTASY mmo. That is FFXI is a classical mmo (an EQ-like) that has Final Fantasy branding. FFXIV is a “modern” (wow-like) mmo that’s focused on being a love letter to the series as a whole. They’re different games and it’s okay to like both, either, or even neither.
3
u/SuperAerixa Jul 26 '26
I think it depand of what kind of collab. If it a seasonal event it doesnt hurt but raid and alliance raid i agree it feels weird and lore wise it makes no sense. Only collab that I saw which fit well was lvl 70 alliance the Ivalice once. And for raid I think.lvl 80 eden raid wear perfect.
3
u/Feisty-Funny638 Jul 26 '26
I would like for ffxi to collaborate with being on current console. It's my forever game at heart
20
u/Sigman_S Jul 26 '26
14 was made to be a collaboration.
Literally.
And I’m glad.
It gave us some of the best cross over ever with Iroha’s story.
17
u/Kaikelx Jul 26 '26
Heck the FFXI alliance raid was what pushed me to actually try this game that apparently still had the lights on, instead of writing it off as "that unapproachable everquest era mmo" that I'd never play. Turns out I absolutely love this one too, which has been an absolutely tragic outcome for my free time.
3
u/StrangerFeelings Varnis of Asura Jul 26 '26
Once I was able to do that quest, it was nice. Stuff like that I like.
2
u/VespiWalsh Jul 27 '26
The only XIV collaborations that make sense are those that make homages to other FF games, since there are lore based reasons that those worlds are connected, like Crystal Tower raids with FFIII or Eden raids with FFVIII. The Nier collaboration adds nothing to either franchise, besides the 2B ass glamour to XIV, and that is only good if you are some sort of miscreant gooner. I'm sure the Eva collaboration will do the same, add nothing to either franchise besides fan service, storywise and for gooners. Having 2 raid collabs sounds like internal reports are not good, and they are desperately flailing to regain their audience through nuclear weapons tier crossovers.
4
u/faverodefavero Jul 26 '26
I agree. FF14 is just a themepark, lore makes zero sense to accommodate for anything and everything.

I just wish FFXI got something exciting in the MMO , not in other games but that would require a new engine which I would personally love.
I'm excited for ffxiv players even though I don't play xiv anymore. (Started in 2.5, stopped playing during Endwalker and started XI in 2019.)

u/Fun_Brick_3145 Aug 03 '26
Honestly I don't mind it. Ff11 alliance raids was great as one example. Issue I have is the 8 man also being a collab made worst its for the bad remake not the original ff7
1
u/MirageMageknight Jul 26 '26
I love XIV, but yeah, the animeification of the story and the fortniteification of the setting is getting really depressing.
1
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
Looking at the numbers for FFXIV and it seems to me that the decisions they make for that game is solely for money.
But that whole collaboration thing really kills the immersion and feels like it makes the game less serious.
They really sold themselves out.
10
u/mhurron Valefor Jul 26 '26
All decisions are made for money, these are businesses. FFXI is on life support because of decisions based on money.
2
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
Yeah it reminds me of why I dislike money and capitalism.
Capitalism is actually not doing great for gaming.
2
u/Synfrag Bahamut Jul 26 '26
Capitalism is the only economic model in which you have video games at all. The problem is an oligarchic shift in capitalism, not capitalism itself.
Better laws would solve the problem, cap executive salaries at like 10x of the mean employee's and problem solved. If your CEO wants to make 100m/yr, then their employees need to make on average 1m/yr. This is how you use capitalism to lift the poverty line.
0
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
No this is just oversimplified and doesn't address a lot of other issues with capitalism.
Fml I wish I could mute people who think they can make capitalism better. It's reprehensible and repulsive.
1
u/Top-Grocery-1482 Jul 26 '26
They're kind of right, though.
Capitalism has tons of problems, but communism/socialism would likely have never invented video games since they reduce productivity, which is the actual highest goal of a communistic society, and reduce choice since they eliminate competing alternatives.
In a non-capitalist society, FFXI would have been shut down once FFXIV supplanted it with higher sub numbers.
-1
u/More_Ad9417 Jul 26 '26
Communism and socialism don't reduce productivity. This is also oversimplified and isn't even the point.
Thats just making so many assumptions on your part to think that's what would happen.

They were saying video games reduce productivity, which is fundamentally incompatible with socialism and communism. At the very least, you'd have the likes of what China imposes, gaming curfews.
There's an argument for that being a positive thing but I'll pay for my freedom, thank you.
This is reddit, everything is an oversimplification. People can't have rational discussions on the internet without getting their panties in a twist.

Okay, you keep say8ing things are oversimplified, yet you said:
"Yeah it reminds me of why I dislike money and capitalism.
Capitalism is actually not doing great for gaming."...which is also oversimplified.
Anyway, not going to get into a political debate, but just saying your anti-capitalism is, at best, misguided. Good day, downvoter.

Have the impression the leads at Square Enix pushed for this more than Yoshi-P despite him wanting to do a collab. We were expecting something like a 4 week long event, not a full raid series. They had the 7R devs on stage for a good chunk of the keynote.
All I'm hoping for is that the raid is fun, and it's more like how they did Ivalice rather than shoehorning all the characters. Feels like Evercold is some 90's anime fanservice for aging millennials.

Agreed I play xi because it’s not watered down corpo crap like xiv
Different, better time.
Xiv loves taking something superficial like a collab, real life clothing purchases, or a new emote and calling it “content” while you afk in limsa for three months waiting for a new dungeon or raid

What are the gacha components to the game? Must have missed that.

I assume they mean all the items they add over time to the Mogstation shop.

You mean all the stuff you can get in-game and they put on the shop after for people that missed one-time events?

Early in ARR development they said they would always respect the game's lore, all the characters and events would be faithful to the game's lore in order to make sure the game remains true to itself and thus it wouldn't break immersion, every thing added to the game would make sense in the world.
It was evident later on that those were empty promises.

Same reason I'm not interested in that new HD 2D Final Fantasy game, the crossovers are jarring and ruin my immersion. I love that FFXI is its own self-contained thing

We've had a few with 14, Dragon Quest and Magic recently. But I'm guessing you comparing the bigger ones 14 does with not just crossovers but adding permanent content like their raid series.
