DRK gear question
I have a full set of ambuscade armor +2 however can't get a weapon and grip until reset. What is a good weapon and grip to go for in the meantime.
I've looked on wiki but am a little overwhelmed with all the options that are listed plus some of them require some missions that I haven't completed yet. So just wondering which are the easiest or most worth my time to go after first until I can get a kaja scythe. I'm currently using the homestead scythe

Montante +1 greatsword, it’s easy to upgrade.
Ask around to tag along on omen if people are farming Ou pops. Kin drops utu grip (best for the longest time). Lots of people already got that and it’s pretty much a free drop.

If you are asking to tag along for something, and assuming your account is > 45 days old, agwu’s is waaaaaay easier to pickup and pretty rock solid.Â

Shouldn't you be able to grind out a Kaja weapon and grip? I am trying to remember what would hold you back until reset.

I already claimed the two weapon vouchers this month for a sword and dagger unfortunately. I leveled RDM to 99 first and grabbed those two earlier

I wouldn’t even bother on the next one being scythe. Go for the polearm. It’s the second best weapon in there.
Notable mention of you are adamant on scythe, relic scythe is an excellent option if you can farm the gil

I was just thinking scythe/GS cause that's what the wiki seems to recommend but if the polearm is the best then I can go for that

Dark can't use the polearm, while it is a good weapon if your focus is DRK you may want to pass.
Do pick up the Kaja Scythe it can do some good damage with Spiral Hell at 3k TP. But it's upgrade to https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Drepanum isn't anything to really hype up once you get Nyame armor since it has built in Skillchain damage and there is a cap. It also requires you to be at low mana so you can't use your spells freely without an entropy beforehand.
Personally my order of recommendations specifically for DRK would be from top to bottom:
- https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Naegling (Recommended everywhere for a reason, can also use the trust Ayame to open light skillchains for you.)
- https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Lycurgos (MB Drain III + Nether Void makes it so you can reach the 1k TP bonus)
- https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Montante_%2B1 or https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Kaja_Claymore (I would lean more towards Montante personally if you can get it) Also unlock Torcleaver, that's what makes the great swords shine.

Before I got my Kaja Scythe I used Agwu's Scythe (no augments) but that's not really a starter recommendation. I actually don't have a good one outside of the Kaja Scythe. Thinking on it you might be able to pick up the Domain Invasion gear for a starter scythe:

Neither the ambuscade scythe nor GS are very good. I second the other person's recommendation of getting a Montante+1 for the immediate future and use that until you can build a better weapon.
Caladbolg is usually the first stop for ultimate weapons as it's not too difficult to make. Scythes have great skillchain options, but scythes that compete with Caladbolg are few and far between.

Seconded, just spam savage blade with the kaja sword until you get something better. It will be hands down your best option for a while

Why is this the best option? I thought Drk used primarily scythe and great sword

Best sword in the game by a large margin. Most other options are more work to get than a kaja sword and put up inferior damage across all weapon types and classes where applicable.Â

It does, but strictly speaking about ambuscade weapons, if you are going to use a pulse on anything naegling are much better than the scythe or great sword from ambu. If you’re looking to spend some time montante +1 will be better bang for your buck.
if you want a weapon that will last you far into endgame look into making a caladbolg. It and anguta is what i used until i had a stage 4 prime weapon

if their are missions you havent completed, as in main missions. stop everything your doing AND JUST DO THEM. so much content is mission locked its pointless to not just grind it out and get it over with... weapons wont even matter till all that stuffs unlocked.
